I have posted my bacon vent before. Last year I was buying it at the meat market for $3.99 a pound and now its $5.99 a pound. Also deli meat is almost double what I can buy the meat itself for. I can buy the roast, ham or the turkey breast for almost 1/2 of what I pay for the deli meat. I understand that I am paying for the ease, but does sliced turkey really need to be $9 a pound?
What I don't understand is why some fruits are so much cheaper and others are so much more expensive. I use to buy apples and grapes without even thinking because they were so cheap, now I can get blackberries and raspberries and pineapples for cheaper.
I have the deli meat problem. It is just sooo good though and I can't replicate that perfectly thin sliced meat myself at home. I splurge on it every week.
I also buy a pound of roast beef for $12 once a month to make phillies for dinner. We love them but sooo expensive for a meal.

). Have big garden started a few years ago (several raised beds). I hate spending money on food and refuse to spend it on junk food lol. Kids want that they buy themselves. Buying in bulk and splitting with another family is work, but does keep costs down
and there are a few things I buy they don't usually carry (organic potatoes, come on Aldi, please carry them!!!). Have been trying to do more meal planning and stick to it.
). I try to go to Sam's right as it opens and stock up on all the marked down meats and bring it home and freeze. That's what I've been having to do with a family of 3 teenagers. Sometimes we eat different things because that is what I could get cheap. Steak forget about it, it always seems to be 8-10 bucks a pound. When I was pregnant with my son 14 years ago I craved steaks and would get ribeye's weekly for $3.99/#, I miss those days.
