This thread just made me realize that I can probably check Publix' sale ad online before my WDW trip. Cool! I can plan meals ahead based on what's on sale.

I was in a grocery store the other day and saw 86% ground beef for $5.39 lb.
At costco 88% ground beef is 3.49 lb.
A $1.90 lb. difference.
I pretty regularly buy 93% lean at Target for $4.50 (on sale + Cartwheel). I often use Target gift cards purchased at Kroger during 4x fuel points so my true cost is closer to $3.60/lb.
My ds recently discovered hamburgers and the frozen patties I bought at Costco have 28 g of fat and made a huge mess of my stove while 0.25 lb. of 93% lean only has 8 g of fate.

I've compared several different brands of frozen burgers (so convenient) but it seems they are all very high in fat. Anywhere from 24% fat to 50% fat
And you're right, they make a huge mess of your stove. And if you cook them on the grill, have the fire extinguisher handy. Just not worth it.
Just comparing like with like. Only a 2% difference with this one. This was fresh ground. They like to give out samples of the frozen ones. Yes they taste good but the saturated (important) fat is off the chart. One is in the 30% range. Often times you pay for convenience.
I think burgers need fat. not 50% fat but usually burgers made with 93% lean ground beef are extremely tasteless.
I don't do frozen patties but 85% lean ground beef is about where I want to be.
My family restaurant use to every so often try to serve a healthier burger, lol and it never really went well, just finally decided to leave the burgers alone and offer turkey burgers, which I love also as an alternative
Now it can also be that I like a strong beef taste. I don't like to have to add ketchup, pickles. salt and pepper to flavor up some thing.
some fat adds excellent flavor. European butter , which I was I could afford more often usually contains more fat and less water is absolutely heavenly compared to the yucky stuff we use. taste is heavenly, mouth feel is creamier and in baked goods difference is noticeable.
If anyone gets a chance to taste cultured butter from Vermont creamery, usually sold in whole foods, try it on a piece of bread. it's 86% fat. I guarantee you will sell a kidney to get more. OMG!!
lol, hooray for fat!!

I had no idea target had ground beef. Do you have a big fancy target? I am paying close to $7 for 95% lean. I don't even think it is organic and I have never seen it on sale. When I use that ground beef, I always make sure i can balance it with lesser expensive items to still stay in our $7 dinner average for the week.

No, this was fresh too. Just saying I can buy a pound of 93% lean for about what I'd pay at Costco for 88% lean. And I doubt Costco is selling it in 1 lb. packages.
Right. My point is with some strategy I'm getting a smaller package with less fat at a comparable per pound price. I'm not a fan of buying meat in bulk because we are a small family.Didn't say they were selling in 1 lb package. There minimum is 3 lbs. it's priced per lb.
