Food and Wine 1st weekend?

Well, we booked the FD package for Sept 22-27 and now it seems that is the weekend that FW Festival starts. I've never been and this time and don't know what to expect.

Will there be a "soft opening" on the Thursday? I know the lines will be crazy on Saturday, but what about Friday and Sunday? Or Friday night EMH? If we have dinner reservations, will the restaurants be running late with the crowds? Does it effect the crowds in Future World? I just don't know how to plan around this.

Any suggestions or advice will be greatly appreciated.

We were there last Sept. Yes there was a soft opening on Thursday. Not all of the carts were open though, but a lot were. We really weren't interested, so we didn't try it (Chicago has a giant Taste of Chicago - same thing every year been there done that) but the lines didn't seem to bad at most places (more people seemed to be at the places with alcohol!). We are going Sept 26-Oct 4th and I am planning to avoid Epcot on the weekends because of the festival.

Unfortunately we're only there for an extended weekend, so I can't just avoid Epcot for those 3 days. I know we'll be there for dinner at least one time, I'm just trying to decide what is the lesser of evils, KWIM?
