Followed the plans on here and no Elsa FP

Loved all the things you said you did in AKL. I will def. try those out. I read somewhere that night vision goggle tours were expensive. I think it was like $75-$125 if I remember correctly. Maybe this is something different?

Either way- we are going to make the most out of our trip, I would have canceled if I could- in light of only going to the parks for one day and being tight with money. But I came on here because this is a planning site with tips and strategies. I was looking to replan my trip with some tips and such. I am not really sure where all the hatefulness came from- I guess people took my wording wrong and assumed I was "snobby". Hmmm. Not sure why. Desperate is a better term. Exhausted. Worn out. Low. These are better descriptive words for how I was feeling rather than snobby. I understand it can be hard to interpret peoples intentions/emotions from a computer though so no harm done.

Tell your kid it's not the real Elsa and that it's just a person in a costume and they won't care anymore about meeting her. :) I'm so grateful my kids are not an age that they want to meet characters. The whole concept of having to get FP to simply meet a character is CRAZY. 2010 they wanted to meet characters and we simply waited in a small line and it was done. I can't imagine how frustrating it is. Going to Disney is fun of course, but basically, it's a lot of work! Tons of work planning and work when you're there if you're trying to not spend your whole trip waiting in long lines. I thought the economy was bad? Why are so many people there? Universal is a breeze compared to this!

I can see a time coming where, for the low, low price of $199, you'll be able to buy an add-on hard ticket for the "Disney Character Experience," a speed-dating ritual in which you start at Micky and Minnie for 2 minutes, the whistle blows (or Tinkerbell tinkles) and you move on to the Donald and Daisy for two minutes, and then Goofy and Pluto, etc, etc until you've spent an hour meeting 60 of your favorite Disney characters (and some you don't like) with Photopass images of each transaction.

Tipping will be, of course, optional, depending on the depth of interaction with the character.

HAHA Why would they give you 60 for the price of 5? You see they already have such a thing. It is called a character meal.

I'm glad then that we saw them back when they were first at Epcot. They were chatty and so sweet to my daughter. She was a little nervous because she was older (12 at that time) and she thought they might think she was too old. But they were really sweet. We did wait in line for 2 hours but that was nothing compared to what some people waited back then.

My grandson's meet with them this past June was as good as I could have asked for. Both characters spent a great deal of time with him.

He was dressed as a prince and has learned to kiss princesses hands and do a bow - both characters loved it and Elsa danced with him and both talked to him for a very long time.

We got tons of video and pics and he walked out with a kiss left on each cheek. It was one of the best character meet n greets we ever had.

My kids are getting of the age to skip characters as well. And, I absolutely hate waiting in line to meet them. That said, there is a bit of sadness that a little piece of the magic is no longer there. And, when you think about it, is it any crazier to spend 60 minutes in line for a 2-3 minute character interaction than it is a 2-3 minute ride on something like Peter Pan. I actually believe that character interactions result in a more lasting memory than most rides for many kids in the 3-6 year old range.

Get to the park for rope drop and head there immediately. We were there from 7/29-8/8 and did that as we couldn't get FP and we waited less than 20 minutes.

I won't be glad when my grandson outgrows the meet n greets. I love watching his reaction and hope it lasts a few more years- better than any thrill ride they make.

My grown daughters still love a lot of them, but I will definitely miss these years when they're over.

Some of my favorite pictures from our last trip were of my teen boys meeting various characters. I can't imagine ever outgrowing meeting characters.

Try not to be discouraged. I couldn't get it for my daughter at 60 days out either, but I tried every time I logged on and finally one opened up. Trying about a week before 45 days of arrival might show more availability.

You could also do the rope drop thing. It will be a lot of waiting but shouldn't be over 1-2 hours, still not worth it to me but some are ok with that.

Hollywood Studios has a great sing a long show that is probably better than meeting in person.

Also, Disney has so much to offer. Try not to get too hung up on one thing. What will be will be, but don't let it ruin your great time. The easier you adjust to unforseen changes like a ride being down or a character not being available the happier you and your family will be. I tell myself "OK, that didn't work out, what else can we do?"

This is insensitive and unhelpful.

No empathy

You read insensitive, unhelpful, and not empathetic, and I read "this person actually wants the OP to have a good time, and given the statements the OP made, going on this trip isn't going to be a good time so here are other ideas".

You don't NEED a fastpass, but it is acceptable to expect one when you spend a ton of money for a trip. This is a Disney problem; they cannot deliver enough high quality experiences to meet the needs of their customers.

The ONLY solution is to get more A&Es then. And Disney has proven themselves to be allergic to have more than two-ish sets of a character around, it seems. So there's no other solution. They can't create more time in a day.

Here is another example of why this is a legitimate thread, and why "just don't go...cancel" doesn't make sense:

The OP said "Our whole trip is about one thing...meeting Elsa."

Where else can people go with replies? Where? If this trip is about that ONE thing, and the OP feels it'll be 6 hours, other than telling her that it's not 6 hours anymore, there's nothing else to say that's helpful for their time at WDW. And even if it were going to be 6 hours, if that's literally the reason for the trip? You wait the 6 hours.

my grandmother who raised me- is sick and there are bills I must pay

In case the bills are medical, have you guys looked into whether they have to be paid, if they can be questioned, if they are bonafide, if YOU have to pay them, etc? With all the help that we've given MIL since she had her first stroke, we haven't paid a single medical bill for her, because it's not our responsibility. We did get her on a better supplemental insurance once she had been unhospitalized for enough time, but she pays that. She loves to make QVC orders then return them, and while we have called and been very stern with people when she's getting the runaround about returns, we haven't paid for any of them. We help her with her mail, we make phone calls for her, etc etc, but NO money.

we also had to come up with a lump sum of money to help family

That's not fun. We loaned FIL some money once. Took "telling on him" to MIL to get our money back; we made something like 40K, he made 150K a year...WHY was he borrowing money "for property taxes"? NEVER again, I tell you. Never.

instead of suggesting the OP cancel her trip and hire someone to play Elsa in her hometown, why don't we offer advice on how to still make the OP's trip enjoyable?

Because she said it was the only reason. If it had truly been that one reason, there's nothing else to help her with.

Haha.... totally ignoring the part where I said about people told the OP to stay home and get a someone to come dressed as Elsa... gotcha. No opinion on that, but we can jump me about my RD posts...

But YOU are the one who indicated that the person you are responding to said to run and go around the CMs. That is why the person is asking where you got that idea. She didn't bring up the other posts, YOU did. You haven't answered what was asked of you; why did you think that's what was being suggested?

Is it going to ruin my trip if I can't get the FPs that I want at 60 days? No, but I will be bummed out and not thrilled about entertaining two kids in a long line.

And it's ok to express that

Sure. But if you are expressing that it will ruin the trip because it's the sole reason for it? Then what?

I wonder if they like the frenzy over A&E.

Of course they do. Get people to stay out of the other lines to meet some minimum wage CMs? Of course they like that, rather than us creating wear and tear on a million dollar ride and rubbing the paint off the queue walls...

The reason we stayed on site is because we had heard if you stay on site you get fast passes of your choice.

Oh gracious where did you hear THAT?

And what you said was that you were staying at AKL to get the FP+s, not that you were staying onsite. The cheapest room at POP gets the same chances as your room at AKL and at the highest normally available room onsite (excluding things not obtainable by mere, non-celebrity, mortals). And it's all chances.

We have 7 days in the hotel, but we may show up late in order to save costs

Oh please don't come late; they could very well get rid of your room and reservation. Please oh please. If anything leave early, but don't purposely get there late. You said you would spend 5 of the 7 days there. 2 days into your reservation it could very well be gone.

I'm hoping that you are looking for the FP+s for every day of your trip? That way if you get them, then you can just switch the MK day to that day. And then apart from the party, the rest of the trip can be focused on the pool and wandering and going to visit other resorts to look around, etc. Do NOT let your family come join you unless they are going to pay to get you into a park. :) Ignore the local family. Show the 4 year old the pictures of the pools (I think you get access to Jambo and Kidani pools?) and the stuff you can do there and have a *vacation*.

I read somewhere that night vision goggle tours were expensive. I think it was like $75-$125 if I remember correctly. Maybe this is something different?

It's something different and free. It's just a nighttime, outdoors-common-area thing (I think it's at Jambo, not Kidani, but it might be at both?). We haven't had the best time at AKL, not Jambo or Kidani, and we didn't have a good time with the nighttime vision goggles activity, but it was freezing so maybe the animals were just hiding. Oh and it was freezing. Your trip won't be freezing. :)

I hope you have the BEST trip! It sounds like you really need a break and something fun and relaxing to look forward to. AKL is a great resort when you aren't doing a lot of park touring - there is so much to do!! Are you staying in a studio or a 1-bedroom? The studio will have a microwave, small refrigerator and large coffee maker, whereas the 1-bedroom will have a full kitchen and washer/dryer. Have you considered having groceries delivered to save on restaurant costs? Garden Grocer is a good grocery delivery service.

I would recommend spacing out your MK and MNSSHP days. If you pick an MK day that has longer hours than an MNSSHP day, you will actually maximize that MK ticket as you will get more park hours that day. Also, in case you didn't know, you can typically enter MK at 4 pm for your MNSSHP event. Plus, if you space out the days and both your MK ticket and MNSSHP ticket are linked in MDE, you can make FP+ for both days - your MK day and your MNSSHP day. If you do this, I would recommend making your MNSSHP FP+ for 3:30 pm, 4:30 pm and 5:30 pm as it appears they are stopping FP+ at 6:30 on party days. If you do this, you can enter MNSSHP at 4 pm and go straight to your 3:30 pm FP+. I hope that makes sense! Just make sure you have the plastic RFID MNSSHP ticket to utilize the FP+ on your party day.

With all the stress you have in your life right now, I completely understand how not getting that Elsa FP+ made you feel. It sounds a bit like the straw that broke the camel's back. Don't stress over it! Keep checking for the FP+ and if you don't get it, go to RD and go straight to the attraction. Your daughter will meet Elsa and, I truly hope, it will make your whole family smile.

I hope you have a fantastic trip!

The NVG thing was a freebie. Just a couple of CMs standing at one of the animal viewing points with NVGs and guest taking turns looking. (Jambo not too far from the pool) Again not a lot of animal activity but neat if you are just hanging out.

As far as the hateful post. You can get some good info on the disboards but you usually have to wade thru some ____ ____ to get to it. You post a question. Your normal responses 5% helpful, 20% have nothing to do with your question and 75% opinionated ____ ____. After that you have a hand full of people who will argue 10 pages worth on what the meaning of "is" is. I've probably been guilty of all but if you are weird it is entertaining in a sick kinda way, especially if there is not much going on at work. Fill in the blank "Extra stuff"??

I would actually like this haha.

I don't know what to do. Our whole trip is about one thing...meeting Elsa. As crazy as that sounds. We have one full day at Magic Kingdom and a night at the Halloween Party. So standing in line for 6 hours will literally eat up our whole trip.

Staying at Animal Kingdom...stayed up till 12 am 60 days out...not one Elsa fastpass. I am so disgusted with Disney's ways...everything is so competitive. If I had known this would be like this I would have vacationed elsewhere...I can't get my money back at this point and I feel the vacation is going to be awful.

Do you have any suggestions? I also don't know how to switch my fastpass for just one or two people to check that way. Currently there is 3 of us. When I do...it deletes everything. At 12 at night there was no Mine train or Elsa...I find this so unfair- it's the only reason I paid top dollar at Animal Kingdom Lodge...to get this dang fastpass. TIA

No need to worry, the line usually does not get any longer than 120 minutes (and that's at PEAK times). If you get there at rope drop (or soon after), the line is usually only about 10 minutes.

OP, best of luck to you! I'm sorry some were a little rough, and I truly hope the Disney trip is a huge success for your family!! Have fun and make lots of great memories:) I'm not sure I can make any better suggestions than the others from supportive posters.

We were at Disneyland and I noticed all the duplicate characters, Mickey and Minnie on both 'Main Streets', Chip and Dale at every character meal, in Toontown, plus on the Main Streets! Princesses at the Ariels Grotto Character Meal at DCA and Fantasy Faire at DL.

So there is ample opportunity to meet the main characters, but they don't have duplicates for the most popular new characters?!

Lame, and Disney surely must recognize the demand for more...

Sorry for your frustration. These boards are full of people (myself included) who could not get an A&E fast pass at midnight on the 60 day mark.
The problem is that due to varying length of stays some people can look for Fast Passes at 61-70 days out and it seems like those people are snagging them all.

The thing is it is just a low turnover since it is a Meet & Greet. Only a few people get through the line every few minutes (no different than any other M&G) so there are very few fast passes available per day. (And also why the line is so long).

Yes I think you are right, but I wish it wasn't so. My days of Disney being magical are coming to an end.
