Flynn Rider leaving Tangled M&G 07/03 ???

Dude,
It's Disney. There are talking animals and a movie where Hera is really Hecules' mom. It's not always going to be accurate. Doesn't the Little Mermaid die in the actual story? Seriously, it's Disney and you're over thinking it.

Im not a dude. You're over thinking it.

Yeah, we were really hoping Lotso might come out of retirement and be back there. Not sure I understand another spot for Pooh. He's one of the easiest characters already to get a picture with: Magic Kingdom, Crystal Palace, United Kingdom, Animation Building, maybe others?
He's also always at the character landing at AK by Flame Tree BBQ.

WDW is going the same way DL did with the princess meet n greets. Its going to be PFF all over again and I have read on these boards that people absolutely HATE PFF. Some people just haven't realized its going to happen yet. Except, they're also gonna throw Rapunzel into the mix with all the other princesses. What I'm hoping will happen with Princess Fairytale Hall though is that you can meet more than just 3 at a time. Hopefully all of them, but that's probably just wishful thinking. Am I the only one that wishes we could revert back to the days when the princesses would actually meet outside near the castle in Fantasyland pretty regularly? I mean afterall, in Disney's commercials they always show it as though you can actually meet Cinderella somewhere in the general vicinity of the castle, but this isn't really the case.

You're the one spouting off about Disney doesn't keep true to the story. I don't care because it's Disney and I expect them to sugar coat things. It's not a conspiracy against anyone. If you really expect the truth, then why do you bother watching movies like Pocahantas with her talking animals and Mulan who is BFFs with a talking dragon? It's entertainment.

We went to DL for the first in April and really liked PFF. It is nice just waiting in one line and DD had great interactions with three princesses (Ariel, Tiana, and Belle). It's really no different than the new M and G in MK on Main St-- one line and three princesses. I'm not sure what's to hate. :confused3

Well, if she was a big Sleepng Beauty fan, you might not have liked it so much. Because you could have gone back through that line again and still not seen her, maybe even seen a couple of the same ones from earlier. And no matter now nicely you ask....... they won't tell you who's back there because it can change at any time. And since they include Cindy, Aurora, Snow White, Tiana, Belle, Princess Minnie, Fairy Godmother, Mulan, Jasmine and occasionally even Pocahontas and probably some others........ it's FAR more random in who you will see than the WDW version.

It's sort of like Princess Pot Luck.

Yes. For some reason they throw in "princesses" that aren't even included in the franchise. I'm looking at you Minnie, Fairy Godmother, Mulan, and Pocahontas. Mulan and Pocahontas are sometimes included, but not usually. If they insist on keeping the princesses cooped up in a building, I know I'd prefer the WDW version.

First off ... when did Captain Jack leave? He's still there, doing his tutorial every day. WDW never had a formal Captain Jack M&G -- that was DL.

Naveen is still there, unless he left yesterday. Tiana is there by herself for some sets; Naveen is there for others. :confused3

And really ... was it the little boys who were all hot to meet Flynn, or the girls and moms? I don't remember too many people writing how excited their sons were to meet Flynn Rider. Phineas & Ferb? Yes. Lightning McQueen? Yes. Flynn? Seemed to be MUCH more of a girl thing. YMMV

:earsboy:

I don't know if they made it formal but Captain Jack did have a meet and greet at the beginning of the whole Pirates thing. I remember because I did a long prayer not to be a part of it. It was a long time ago. Then they had him in the Pirates and Princess Parties, and I think the halloween parties but then he magically vanished. I supposed the show is nice, but he doesn't do autographs and you can't take a picture with him either. I'm sorry but a picture of JS in the show is not the same as a picture with you and JS.

Also boys, or their parents, may not apparently write about meeting Flynn Rider but I have seen many, many little boys excited to meet him. Families of only boys have done the long line just because they want to meet him. Please do not tell me this is a girl thing, because in my experience it is not. Yes I'm not going to deny the woman like him just as much, but men like it equally just as well. I can't count the amount of dads that have asked pictures of Flynn and them doing the smolder. It is a very male thing and is something that kids and adults enjoy.

Let's face at Disney more and more boys get a lot of the short end of the stick, just as the older kids do too. Throwing a few meet and greets here and there as consolation does not equal them having variety for boys.

Agreed!! Last night I told my husband I just found out Flynn was not going to be part of the meet & greet anymore and HE was disappointed. We thought it great that Disney was finally making their movies to include boys & men in the excitment and thrilled at the thought of meeting him. My husband wrote in to protest Flynn's leaving as well!

BTW, I would be ok with a seperate meet & greet for Rapunzel and another one for Flynn. In fact, I think it would be great if Disney did seperate and added Maximus with Flynn! Never gonna happen I'm sure, but it would be great!

Flynn is a draw for little boys??? Since when?? We did the Rapunzel meet and greet in April....loved, loved Flynn. And yes, it's a mom and her dd thing. But...there certainly weren't that many little boys in the line. And the ones that were in line were griping about the wait..said they didn't care about some stupid guy with a princess!!!

Naveen and Flynn aren't attracting little boys nor are they appealing to little boys.

...Yes they are. There are several posts talking about boys wanting to meet them...

I have seen many posts from parents with boys. And I can tell you my DS7 would love to meet him. He finds Flynn & Maximus hiliarious! :goodvibes

Last year he wanted to meet Captain Jack Sparrow and was disappointed he couldn't. Thrilled that he met Aladdin (he posed the same as Aladdin for the photos). Disappointed we missed Naveen. Very happy he met Captain Hook, Mr. Smee and Peter Pan. Disappointed he couldn't meet Ron Stoppable.

Ohh, and though my kids couldn't meet Kim & Ron, my daughter loves that photo of her with Shego & Dr. Drakken from MNSSHP! (DISers dressed up) :goodvibes

My son will be thrilled to meet Phineas & Ferb this year. So will my daughter, but I know she'll be disappointed Candace is not there. For that matter, so am I. The THREE kids make that show. Not just one or two.

Girls are not the only ones who want to meet characters...

I think the point some of us are trying to make is that overall, M&G's with princesses and others related to them are generally going to appeal moreso to girls than boys. Not that no boy or man is going to want to do these, but the numbers will be heavily slanted towards the girls.

If you have 100 5 y/o girls & 100 5 y/o boys lined up with the choice between a prince and Buzz Lightyear, I'd be surprised if the results weren't in the prince's favor with the girls and Buzz's favor with the boys. Think how many girls you see dressed as princesses at the parks, then how many boys you see dressed as princes. When it came to boys/guys and anything worn related to princesses/princes, the one I saw the most was worn by teen guys and men showing the prince and the quote, "Sorry ladies, I'm taken" or something like that, which is more to be funny than because you want to wear a shirt with Prince Charming on it.

Just as I said earlier about Angelica. At least in our observations, she seemed to be much more popular with boys and men than she was with girls and women. Younger girls were there to get pictures with a "girl pirate", but you didn't see the numbers of teenaged girls or women like you would with a Jack Sparrow M&G.

I can promise you, Flynn draws boys. :) More girls than boys, yes, but he does get a large crowd of boys who like his antics! ;)

To those of you who say that Flynn is a big draw for boys.....I have been in this line once, and past it on about 5 occasions. The percentage of boys waiting in those lines was very small. Just basing my response on what I've seen personally.

I have to ask...how many little boys actually watched 'Tangled'?? I'm not trying to be argumentative here, but seriously? 'Tangled' is aimed at preteen and teen girls...especially preteen girls. And the meet and greets for Rapunzel and Flynn??? Again those girls and yes, their mothers.
I realize that boys like to meet characters. Of course they do. But, they really aren't out, enmasse, to see Flynn. Disney doesn't feel that it is worth it to continue with that particular character. From what I understand, both Flynn and Naveen will be part of the 'parties' this fall and winter.

Yes, there are boys that want to meet these characters. I'm not saying there aren't. But, in the big picture they are a small group. I wish that Disney did more character stuff for boys. I wish they would have a meal with characters that boys like. For whatever reason though, Disney doesn't see the need.

At least in our experience it is very different than the 3 princess meet and greet was in Toontown ( I can't speak as to Main Street because we have not been there since the change). In Toontown, every time we have been there since DD has been born (4 times), it has been the standard 3 Princesses, Cinderella, Belle, and Aurora (except during MVMCP when Belle goes out to meet in the park in her red dress, and Snow White takes her place in Toontown). If you wanted to see those specific Princesses, you knew when you got in line you would. Plus, there was a picture of each of them on the sign at the begining of the line telling you who was there for certain, and the CM at the front of the line would also tell you exactly who you were going to meet. (For example at MVMCP the Princes are usually there with them , but when were at MVMCP in 2009, I asked the CM to confirm they were there before we got in the long line, and she said NO, they had things to do and did not happen to be there and we would not see them that night-- DD did not get in line as she had already seen the Princesses- it saved us an hour of standing in line and finding out the Princes had left).

At PFF, the MOST you will get from the CM is a listing of who the possibilities for that day are which is what the CMs were doing this year when we were there. Last year as Mom2rtk mentioned, they would not even give us that information. Last year, we got "You will find out when you get to the front of the line". For little girls who have specific Princesses they want to meet, it is a mess. If you have a girl who just wants to meet a princess and doesn't care who it is, you will probably be fine. Usually (and I say usually not always), they have at least one Princess- but you might stand in line an hour to get that one Princess with say the Fairy Godmother standing in the spot next to her (not to minimize the Fairy Godmother because we really like her). As you and your DD are leaving, your DD might watch the Fairy Godmother and the one Princess leave, and 3 Princesses take their place. Your DD then really wants to see the Princesses, so you get back in line. As you get to the front of the line, you watch the 3 Princesses walk off together, and here comes the Fairy Godmother and the 1 Princess you already saw again.

This is why I really wish Star Wars M&G's were more common outside of SWW's, which for those in our area are very difficult to attend, unless you're going to take kids out of school. And a Star Wars character meal would be huge. I would think it would quickly rank in the top-5 hardest to obtain ADRs.

DHS is where we do the majority of our character M&G's. CARS, Incredibles, Buzz & Woody, Monsters, and usually the current movie in the animation building (we skipped Pooh).

Yep. To all of that.

I know I brought this issue up when news of Fairytale Hall being the new meeting place for the princesses and they mentioned possibly Rapunzel and Tiana being there. I sincerely doubt they will give you 5 princesses at all times, so it seemed to me that it might become more like Disneyland with random princesses.

At that time, a nice CM was kind enough to PM me to say they were fairly certain the new setup would not follow the DL model. So I put my mind at ease.

But then I see changes like what just happened spur of the moment with Flynn and I do start to wonder again if it might go that direction.

FWIW....... I haven't found a single person who LIKES that arrangement at DL. If you ask in the DL Forum how to find a certain princess, the answer is always the same. You really can't do it unless you have lunch at the princess character meal at Ariel's Grotto. As I recall, that cost us about $80 for 2 when we did it. REALLY? That's the BEST they can do?

Sorry to get this so off topic. The PP just hit a hot button issue for me. But the 2 issues together lead me to believe that guest preferences really play a small part in how they make these character decisions. Granted, if people stopped going to Princess Fantasy Faire or the new Rapunzel Meet & Greet, it would get their attention. But I think they can set the bar a little higher than that.

My 8 and 4 year old have seen it a few times and they love it. With that said, they don't care whether they meet Flynn or not, but for that matter, they really don't have that much desire to meet other characters either -- I mean, we do meet some if the line is short (or part of a meal or event), but it's not that important to them. Now, if the younger one had a chance to meet the evil characters shown on the water screen from Fantasmic (Maleficent, Evil Queen, Hades, Frollo, Chernabog, etc.), he'd be all over that.
