Flynn Rider leaving Tangled M&G 07/03 ???

Mary Poppins at 1900 Park Fare said that she may let Mr. Rider use her umbrella for his upcoming long journey.

LOL! Word travels fast!

You know... Disney has been talking a tough game over the past year about trying to man up this Fantasyland Expansion....... Prince Charming's this.......... the Beast's that....... Prince Eric's this........ Gaston's that........... Then what's the FIRST thing to go when they want to cut the budget? The boy stuff! :lmao: Am I the only one with whiplash?

Lame. Completely lame.

I agree with a PP about Disney's big talk about being more pro-boy. And what do they do? Captain Jack? Gone? Naveen? Gone. Now Flynn too? Seems like boys have less and less things geared toward them every day.

Please don't tell me that this decision stems from Disney brass being concerned about overly-hormonal mothers that can't control themselves around male characters. That would be a joke. :sad2:

The kids have it right - they are taking all the fun stuff away.

Peter Pan and Aladdin, if I were you, I'd pick up some change-of-address forms on the way out today.

Sheesh...Yah know it is bad enough there is no more spontaneous characters to encounter but now taking away Flynn?

I don't get why they eliminate the male characters....Like someone said before it limits the boys options and what girl doesn't want to meet a handsome prince? From what I have seen on You Tube the encounter with Flynn looked like a lot of fun.

Don't forget Prince Eric. He needs a head up too!

Yup. And Buzz should probably make himself scarce too. Who knows where the fickle firing finger of Disney will point next?

First off ... when did Captain Jack leave? He's still there, doing his tutorial every day. WDW never had a formal Captain Jack M&G -- that was DL.

Naveen is still there, unless he left yesterday. Tiana is there by herself for some sets; Naveen is there for others. :confused3

And really ... was it the little boys who were all hot to meet Flynn, or the girls and moms? I don't remember too many people writing how excited their sons were to meet Flynn Rider. Phineas & Ferb? Yes. Lightning McQueen? Yes. Flynn? Seemed to be MUCH more of a girl thing. YMMV

:earsboy:

DS7 is already referring to the Fantasyland expansion as Princess Land. He was pretty happy to see the Mine Ride.

I will say Angelica may prove to be "too popular" with the boys, well, maybe teens and men. DW was kidding me about her last week, asking if she was my favorite Disney character, and I just said, always has been. :rotfl:

I know this is not an all the time thing, but generally the princesses and anything related to them, including the princes are going to be more popular with the girls. Boys are going to like the pirates, Star Wars character, Fineas & Ferb, CARS, Incredibles, things like that. I may even go so far as to say outside of the Mickey gang, overall Disney is more popular with girls and Pixar is more popular with boys.

Weren't Hook & Smee also removed as regular park characters? Now you have to take the fireworks cruise to see them. And we didn't see Peter Pan out last trip either - and the day we tried to see the pirate tutorial we were told Capt. Jack's boat didn't make it in that day.

Maybe with *little* girls. Older girls (yes even 7, 8, 9 years old) have come to notice boys. When I see a princess line it is generally filled with preschoolers.
FWIW, my girl runs for Buzz over a princess ANY day. Buzz and the Green Army Men were her favorites to meet, until Flynn knocked them off the saddle. And I hardly doubt she has a "crush" on a green army man. Maybe Disney should face the fact that the male characters are often more playful and interesting than the princesses.

He was out for the Pirate & Princess parties at WDW, but went away when those ended.

So will Rapunzel be alone in the garden just doing a regular M&G with no show. Fine by me, less of a wait. We met Flynn in Dec at DL, and he was AWESOME, bummer he is being put away except for special occasions. They should have him in the parade!

Or luck into catching them at the Animation building at Studios. They aren't out at the MK any more except for parties.

Exactly the point I was trying to make. It was the teenage girls and mothers that could handle themselves around some of the male characters, so away they went. I'll bet this was a big part of Flynn's departure.

Character experiences have really become boring. Once Rapunzel and Flynn were a hit, it became too popular and Disney would have none of that. So they removed another popular character. But hey, at least we can see Pooh IN YET ANOTHER PLACE at the HS Animation Building.:headache:

Yeah, we were really hoping Lotso might come out of retirement and be back there. Not sure I understand another spot for Pooh. He's one of the easiest characters already to get a picture with: Magic Kingdom, Crystal Palace, United Kingdom, Animation Building, maybe others?

It's just another example of Disney's homogenization and 'dumbing-down' of everything in the parks. From the same cheap souvenirs (and they have gotten pretty cheesy) to the menus losing great choices. While I understand the economy and cutbacks etc., I just don't understand why Disney continues to eliminate popular things. Flynn is just the latest example.

I'm all for the regular meet and greet! I just don't get why Flynn can't stick around for a regular meet and greet. We did the meet and greet the 1st week of December last year, and I am all for getting rid of the annoying coloring, dance, etc. DD just wants to meet, hug, talk to, and take pictures with the characters, she could care less about the rest of it. It was a mess, and we were really worried this was the way WDW was heading with all the talk of the Princess interactive meet and greets in the new Fantasyland (now mostly scrapped).

I have a feeling I know where WDW is heading with this and I don't like it. They are gutting a classic ride (Snow White), to make a Princess meet and greet. Seems like I saw some press hyping that you will be able to meet Tiana and Rapunzel there. I am guessing they are going to try to make it like the meet and greet at Princess Fantasy Faire at DL which we hate. At PFF, they have a rotation of 5-6 Princesses. You never know which of them you are going to meet until you get to the front of the line. You are guaranteed 2 Princesses, and often there are 3. So, you invest an hour in the line hoping to meet Tiana, only to watch her walk off as there are one or two people in front of you, and Belle to take her place (who you have already met at the character meal the day before). It always seems to lead to unhappy little girls (of course some are happy that who they wanted shows up right as they get there), and people attempting to shuffle when they get to the front of the line. When we were at DL 2 weeks ago, they were rotating Ariel, Belle, Jasmine, Mulan and Tiana all the days we were there. The first day we got Ariel, Mulan, and Belle. Jasmine also has a meet and greet with Aladdin in Adventureland, so we saw them there because while DD likes Jasmine, Aladdin is more important to her. (You hear that Disney--- the 5 year old wants to see the PRINCES (by birth and by marriage!!!)). The only Princess DD did not get to see on our trip was Tiana. She really wanted to see her, but there was no way to guarantee it would happen. Our choice was to stand in the then 45 minute line, and HOPE that when we got up there it would be her rotation, or that we could get enough people to go ahead of us that we could wait for her, which could have been another half hour standing there. As much as DD really wanted to see Tiana, she was not willing to do that. She would have stood in line an hour with a guarantee to see Tiana, but she wasn't going to waste that Disney time for just a chance at it, and a possibility of meeting the same princeses she had already met twice again. (she had already seen Ariel and Belle at PFF and again at Ariel's Grotto Princess meal). We have been back for 2 weeks and I am still hearing about how she wishes there would have been somewhere that she could have gotten in line to just meet Tiana. Can you imagine all the people that currently wait in line for over an hour to meet Rapunzel watching her walk away to be replaced with another princess right when they get to the front of the line. (If her popularity remains, I can just see all the people fighting to try to get others to go in front of them so they can wait for her at the new place).

This is sort of like the Princess meet that already takes place at WDW. You get 3 - but you don't know which 3. I have always seen Cinderella, but other 2 have rotated between Belle, Aurora, & Snow White. Sounds like DL just throws a couple more into that rotation.

No. If you want to meet Belle, Cindy or Aurora, your odds are pretty strong you'll see them if you wait through the line. I don't know about now, but I know back in toontown there was even a sign showing which ones were "in" when you entered the line. DL is just as the above poster describes...... completely frustrating. Of course it's complicated by the fact that they don't have more than one room going at once, so the wait is interminable. It's like the fairies were at WDW. Wait forever, use the first hour of your day getting your spot in line, then never knowing if you'll see who you want. Even throwing a couple more in the mix made it worse. And the third spot is often taken with a princess-related character like Fairy Godmother or Princess Minnie. All well and good...... unless you are looking for someone specific.

When Fairytale Hall was first announced, they actually mentioned Rapunzel and Tiana and everyone wondered about this happening. Hmmmmmm.........

I definitely hope that's not true! It already irritates me that Jasime is so much easier to find than Aladdin (you know, the guy the movie is named after?). Admittedly, Tangled is titled after Rapunzel, but the story is just as much about Eugene. (In the voiceover at the end, he says he goes back to being called Eugene, so I'll call him that instead of Flynn. :) )

We were JUST talking about Aladdin last night (like you said, movie named after him and harder to find than Jasmine).

I hope they don't get rid of Flynn. He honestly makes a HUGE piece of that movie.

Don't you know? They don't name princess movies after the princess any more. The boys might not feel included. And we all know how much Disney values the experience of little boys..... well..... until budget time rolls around........ :rolleyes1
