Im hoping that somebody on here feels the same as me and give me some pointers on how to remedy it !!

First off I have to say Im not scared of flying/crashing!!

My problem is that from about half an hour into the flight until the next day I feel incredibly sick - my stomach feels like it has turned into a washing machine and I I seriously struggle to think of anything but not being sick !!!

On our first flight I thought it was excitement but no it was there onthe way back too :rotfl: so then i put it down to anxiety but in my herat of hearts I know im not anxious about flying i just hate the sick feeling that comes with it !! Last year i tried taking food that appealed on board and drank plenty of water but nothing helped
Anybody any ideas ?? Part of me thinks its a bit of travel sickness as I suffered terrible as a kid with this but i have no idea as an adult how to remedy it or even if it can still be that ??

Thanks Louise x

Have you tried Bonine or Dramimine? Both are over the counter meds for motion sickness. I can't fly without them.

Why don't you speak to the pharmacist at somewhere like Boots? They're usually pretty good and can probably recommend some tablets. I know when my boys were younger, they took one tablet about 1hr before travelling.

Really pleased that you have a holiday planned. Hope Cam's doing ok. :)

yeah i could do but i really believed that Id grown out of it :lmao:
Cant take anything that will make me drowsy either as Im the chief driver and Dh would kill me if i was comatosed :rotfl:

Cam is a bit of a touchy subject at the moment we are ever hopeful that things will improve by November for this trip !! At the moment he has stitches in place that wont be removed till september ( close I know but hey we like taking the hard way about things :))
Thanks for asking x

I get the exact same thing and can vouch for dramamine (or any generic equivalent) being a lifesaver, it does cause drowsiness (an advantage for me!) but there may well be non-drowsy version available :) It's only available in the US but Sturgeron (available here) is a pretty good substitute for the way there :)

I have motion sickness, although I have outgrown getting "car-sick." Planes and rides still make me nauseous.

There is a "less-drowsy" version of Dramamine and Bonine available (here, at least), or the generic is anything with a small amount of Meclezine.

Maybe you could try it one time before you left on a "trial run," that way, you would know if it made you drowsy, and how much.

The full strength Dramamine puts me to sleep on the plane, but I am awake and ready to go by the time the plane lands in Orlando. (Alright, DH says it is by the time we hit the ME terminal. Before that, he leads me around like a walking zombie. But it normally does take me awhile to get around in the mornings! ) Our flight time is about 6 hours, including one stop, usually without changing planes.

The "Less Drowsy" Dramamine is what I used in 2008 to experience all of the wonderful Disney rides - except Space Mountain, Teacups and Mission Space. I was too afraid to try those. (I am ashamed to say I took well over the "recommended dose" over those 4 days, but I really did think it would be our one and only trip to Disney World!) I took the equivalent of prescription strength Meclezine, and it didn't make me sleepy, but it did leave me feeling tipsy toward the evenings, for lack of a better word. It reminded me of when I have had two adult drinks - I get a little silly and slowww. I also don't remember the evening shows we went to...any of them! But that's just me. I am a "one drink" sort of gal!

Last year, I used the Less Drowsy Bonine. I felt much better! I would say I took one tablet 3 times a day. That worked out well, and I never got that "medicine head" feeling.

For something natural, ginger works well. It was just more convenient for me to chew those nasty little Bonine tablets (They are orange flavored, and awful!)

Hope my experience helps somewhat. Everyone responds to these things differently, so it's probably best to try it out before you go if you can. Hope you find something that helps you!

I have a problem with feeling sick too but mine is caused by take off and landing and when the plane banks - I'm the same on rides that move this way.

Three cures for me
1) don't sit near a window or look out of one
2) Focus downwards not upwards on a book or magazine as it helps the blood flow and stops you feeling faint (tricky with young children though)
3) Eat constantly but small amounts - the smell of the cooked food turns my stomach but I have a bag full of plain biscuits/pringles/ crisps (and water once through security) and I graze constantly. My youngest is the same and it works for us.

Wow thank you everyone - it seems it probably is motion sickness then and yes on spinning rides I feel the exact same feeling in fact in Mission space I actually did need the sick bag provided :lmao: My kids were mortified :lmao:

Thank you Im afraid I dont drink very often either and the smell when opening a bottle makes me tipsy so im liking the sound of these meds more and more !! However because I drive I will ask advice at a pharmacy and see what they suggest. Im going to write down your reccomendations and see if they can reccomend something that will work and then ill try it one day when hubby is off work lol
I have a very low tolerance to any medication so a trial run really would be neccesary :lmao: cant have me tripping on the plane what would immigration think :rotfl2:

I did try reading a book last year and I couldnt read it I was far too aware of the movement :lmao: Also because dd is only little she insists on walking the plane or going to the toilet every 30 seconds and if im honest I never look out of the window as the kids fight for the window seats :lmao:

I do have to say that the 1 thing I h8 the most is the plane banking even thinking about it could turn my stomach :rotfl2:

1 more question if i take medication will i get over my fear of Tot as my kids are insistant that i have to go on it and im sure i left my stomach on it about 5 years ago

DH suffers from motion sickness and uses a combination of Stugeron, ginger and this device

http://www.sailgb.com/p/sea_sickness_travel_sickness_relief_band/

which he swears by!

He's had the Relief Band for a few years now, and before getting it could not have even contemplated a lot of the rides at WDW. By using the Relief Band, he is able to even do the intense version of Mission Space, as well as almost all the others rides that Orlando has to offer.

It may seem expensive, but he says it's been well worth it.

I think other places sell them too.

Hi

I used to suffer from really bad travel sickness and nothing worked for me, my poor parents used to get used to just pulling in and stoping every few miles. Now I am fine in the car but only in the front and if I have to sit in the back its not good.

On our last flight I decided to take a travel sickness tablet and found that the boots own brand one worked well for me. you take one twenty mins before you fly and can take more during the flight. No drowsyness or anything and it really helped. The othr option is the sea bands that you wear on the pulse points on your wrist. That way you don't have to take any medication and there are no side effects. They don't work for everyone though and as a pp said have a dry run first.

I suffer from terrible travel sickness but only since I had horrendous morning sickness on a flight while pregnant with DD.

I take Stugeron which works wonders and actually helps me sleep which I find to be a big advantage. I am fine to drive on the other side though.

Hi Louise

I am excatly the same as you.

I take travelezze Pastilles and you can get it from Boots.

They are a strawberry flavoured jelly like and me and DD's take them (although they dont really need them but it makes me feel better knowing the've had them!!) and they have never made us feel drowsy like some of the other sickness tabs ive tried:thumbsup2

I get travel sick too - I even feel sick when I'm driving my own car!

I find a combination of those travel bands and some tablets work. I'm not sure if the travel bands (which press on a pressure point on your wrist) are proven effective, but they seem to improve things for me. It might just be a psychological effect ?!

I also swear by a travelling tablet called "kwells". Available in boots and most chemists. Basically, anything that contains hyoscine bromide. They tend to
leave you a bit dry and thirsty, but i've never felt drowsy on them. I've tried sturgeron in the past (more anti histamine based??) but they have never really worked for me.

Best of luck :)

I suffer really badly with motion sickness...even watching moving images can sometimes make me feel sick :scared1:

However, 20 odd years ago I tried out a pair of Sea Bands because it was worth trying something seeing as medications rarely worked. I was amazed how well they worked for me. I can now go on ships, cross the channel on a ferry and even survive a storm at sea without feeling sick or throwing up :woohoo:

They really are worth trying as they are completely safe and have no side effect - I even used they sucessfully during pregnancy to ward off morning sickness :-

Another vote here for Boots own brand travel sickness pills - no drowsiness and work a treat - in fact - the ONLY one I found that truly works for me....
