I would like to take my own wine on our Sept. trip, resort delivery is way to costly as is the wine in the resort gift shop. Has anyone every packed a couple bottles or even a box of wine in their checked luggage?

With lots of bubble wrap and 2½-gallon freezer bags around the bottles in (unlikely) case of accidental breakage.

Our last trip we brought a couple bottles of liquor in our checked luggage with no breakage in either direction. Used Wine Skin packaging and it is awesome! Still far cheaper than buying it at the resort and the bags are leak proof if for some reason breakage occurs.

I couldn't post the link since I don't have enough prior posts but if you go to amazon and search Wine Skin Leak Proof Traveler it should come up.

Check your airline's rules regarding alcohol in checked baggage. Wine almost always is fine, but higher-proof liquors generally are forbidden. Some airline's do have specific packaging requirements, however, so make certain you know and follow those if they are applicable. As noted by PPs, also package the wine in at least one layer of waterproof bags to keep your bags (and everybody else's) dry in case of leakage.

We generally travel with this wine carrier from bottle wise. It has worked well for us on multiple trips. The carrying case and strap are perfect for driving trips and we separate out the sleeves for checked luggage.

If we ever wanted to travel with more than 2 or 3 bottles of wine, we would get this as one of my friends really likes it.

As per the TSA Website, "Carrying Alcohol In Your Checked Baggage. Please note, you can’t take alcoholic beverages with more than 70% alcohol content (140 proof), including 95% grain alcohol and 150 proof rum, in your checked luggage. You may take up to five liters of alcohol with alcohol content between 24% and 70% per person as checked luggage if it’s packaged in a sealable bottle or flask. Alcoholic beverages with less than 24% alcohol content are not subject to hazardous materials regulations."

Also, note that it is 5 liters of 24% to 70% alcohol per person and those people do not need to be over the age of 21. So, if a family of 4 (2 adults and 2 children) travels abroad, they can distribute (for example) up to 20 liters of rum amongst their checked luggage on the return flight. Yes, I realize that is a lot of rum. :rolleyes1

Strictly speaking, based on the alcohol content limits, I can't imagine a wine approaching 24% alcohol content and therefore I assume most wines are exempt from a TSA standpoint (although some zinfandels, syrahs, and ports probably approach 20%). We generally only fly Delta and, as long as the wine is less than 24%, it does not count towards your total.

We have traveled with both beer and wine in our checked luggage. Its the only time DH buys a 12 pack of beer cans and I get a box of wine and take it out of the box and just pack the bladder full of wine

Great, thanks for all the suggestions. We will have to partake in at least one pool drink purely out of tradition, but I like to sit on the balcony and have a glass of wine while everyone is getting ready for dinner.

I second the bubble wrap and a nice old shirt to wrap them in. Additionally I wrapped mine in a plastic laundry sack as well. This way I was able to bring home two bottles of wine and a bottle of Extra Virgin Olive Oil from Italy.

It was great!!

Whatever you do, please pack it VERY well so not to ruin your fellow traveler's luggage. To me, its not worth bringing to save a few dollars over the prices on Disney property.

We brought wine home from a trip. We wrapped it in bubble wrap and put it in a plastic box and put lots of clothes around it. At the airport we ask the ticket agent for SWA if they could put a Fragile sticker on our luggage because we had wine it the bag. They did and it was fine when it got home

Dh and I always take wine with us when we travel. We pack each bottle in a neoprene holder, insert that in a cylinder cardboard (made for wine)...never had a a problem. The neoprene sleeves are available many places, as are the cardboard cylinders. We actually got our neoprene at Target and our cardboard cylinders at Michaels.

I've packed boxed wine (the WineBlok seems almost made for packing!) and a bottle of Captain Morgan's. In the Cap'n's case, it was a plastic bottle. I made sure that these were never opened and I put them in large Ziploc bags before packing them as an extra precaution. I don't trust baggage handlers with glass bottles, regardless of how well I've packaged them.

A couple years ago we flew home from Germany with a couple bottles of wine in the checked luggage and had no problem! I did put it in a baggie in case it broke and packed all the dirty laundry right around it!
