Oh, it's not this one situation. Something went crazy around the time of the Pandemic and a little before. The place no longer feels safe for anyone anymore (not Disney but the rest of the state). They never have been very welcoming outside of the parks even though their livelihood was dependant on the tourist business.
I never drove down there from Vermont just to go to Disney. I loved to explore using Kissimmee as my base I went north, east, south and west of central Florida. I loved it's charm, orange groves, live oaks covered with spanish moss, the beaches, the palm trees. Just about everything about it. I drove down to Key West and stopped more then I drove because I was so fascinated by the wildlife and the blue/green colors of the Atlantic and the Gulf of Mexico. Now I fear going anyplace in the state simply because I don't think it is a safe place to be and the collective hate that has resonated there is something that I cannot tolerate. Obviously, that is just me because others flock there and I know that my boycott will mean nothing individually, just like that one incident, by itself, means nothing it is the incident after incident that adds up to something I cannot support.
