Flying Westjet? Check your flights!

Well before the pandemic Swoop was notorious for cancelling flights right-and-left. We never booked with them for anything but an office friend had her AI package to Mazatlan shifted by two days throwing her entire plan into chaos.
Sure but A) it doesn’t make it right , and B) if the parent company is now employing the same tactics it’s not saying much for their solvency IMO.

:confused3I didn't for a second imply I thought it was right. I've taken my lumps from Westjet like everybody else on the thread. I've never really been a big Westjet person. We don't fly much domestically and when we go abroad one of the international carriers usually has better prices. I got stuck with thousands in Westjet credits due to a huge planned trip that was a Covid casualty. I'd much rather not be dealing with any of this.

I think maybe I didn’t get my tone across . I didn’t think you were saying it was right . I meant more “sure they are known for that but it’s wrong and now they’re getting away with it elsewhere .” I didn’t mean to offend . :-)

I think the big problem is that WJ’s service is inconsistent. While we’ve had some changes hit that we didn’t get emails regarding, on the flip side we’ve had good service from the phone reps, been rescheduled on our choice of flights without complaint, had status and voucher expiry dates extended without asking. Yesterday the rep comped me a seat selection since we only had three vouchers but needed four for the flight we were booking.

I think that if you’ve only had limited interactions, there’s a 50-50 chance that it will have been a negative one. With a lot more interactions, that one (or two) negative gets balanced out by a bunch of positive ones.

I’m not sure how they can fix that. It’s a definite problem, though.

I didn't want to book them with today but I did because they were $150 a person cheaper than AC and both are unreliable right now. Hopefully our flight at the end of August goes ahead and we can fly home in Sept. disney here we come

 Have people been having the same type of experience with Air Canada? I haven't heard of it.

My experience has been better with AC the last few years but I have seen a lot of flights getting cancelled with AC as well. We had looked at a number of Hawaii flights over the past 6 month and they consistently ended up going from direct to indirect flights. I think they just can't get enough traffic right now to properly plan but that doesn't excust the poor service

It might also be that AC has enough pilots to operate most of its flights, whereas WJ does not.

Just re-booked our flights after cancelling our Sept trip and moving it to Feb 2022. I have Delta credits to use, and now they're code-sharing with WestJet, so unfortunately our outbound flights are operated by WJ. 😑 Hopefully they have these kinks ironed out by then. On the plus side, now we get WJ points/dollars with our Mastercard, so there's that.

I have 100% had AC change flights on me too. So it’s not just WJ. When I went to Orlando last November, they canceled my outgoing flight and bumped me to the next day, this was not acceptable, so I had them move me a day earlier and I booked an extra night in Orlando.

They also changed a Toronto flight on me in May - which I then had to cancel anyways due to the Covid surge.

Did air Canada notify you though that your flight was canceled? That’s the problem with WestJet. They cancel flights and rebook you and don’t even notify you.

We were originally booked for Dec 2021 on AC to YOW to/from MCO but they changed our flights to have us arriving and leaving from Fort Lauderdale instead. They did notify us though and gave a refund (rather than credits) when we cancelled --- definitely a long wait on hold though --- but I found the actual customer service experience was very good...

We wound up rescheduling to March 2022 (flying WJ though since we had a companion voucher, travel bank, and WJ dollars to use up) --- hope those direct flights we booked are don't change.

Add me to the list of flights changed. I did receive an email about but only after I had gone in and looked at the flights myself to see if they had changed. We are now scheduled to leave the DAY BEFORE we were supposed to do I have no idea what to do. I technically don’t even have an additional vacation day to take :/ plus this was timed out to ensure we could use our APs for our trip next year as well and we’ll have to totally change everything if I move it ahead. Not to mention they only left us with 1.5 hours to get through Toronto before our next flight…ummmm. And also with the flights being more expensive now as well. So ticked.

so now I’m considering leaving on Saturday instead of overnight Monday and coming back Sunday instead of Monday. Which would mean an overnight in TO and a connection through NYC but we’d get there.

But I’m also considering that the indoor mask requirement (well recommended at universal where we are going) is not something we wanted to do - that was one thing we’d both agreed upon and I doubt will be resolved by September. Plus I might have something happen where I wouldn’t be able to go at all so this whole trip is starting to look doubtful. So I am also thinking about cancelling.

I had looked in WJ app yesterday saw my flights still there, but didn’t look closely at the details. Then this morning got a change email and was like oh crap…but it was just minor changes to times. Phew. So I’m still good for end of September.

We got hit with more changes for our Labour Day long weekend WDW trip. Ended up canceling our WJ and rebooking with AC. Blurg.

My flights were changed a week or so ago. Then changed again 2 days ago. Now I just got this saying they are unable to accommodate me, and gave me credits. Yet the flight is still there!!?? Soooo….. ummmm??

What in the world is WJ playing at??? I'm so sorry, that's insane.
