Flying squirrels

Been here for 8 days and the highlight of my kids' trip was watching flying squirrels tonight glide from tree to tree outside our Old Key West room. That will probably be their favorite memory.

That's awesome! Last time we were there we watched from our balcony a guest walk up to one of the ponds next to a fairway with a fishing rod and pull out a pretty big (probably 5 or 6 lb) bass within about 10 minutes! Fun to watch. He did catch and release

Was at OKW in June with a pond view--saw the Loch Ness Monster! Just kidding--it was a pair of sleek black otters swimming around; think they had a den in the bank of the pond. We didn't even know there were otters in Florida! Saw them few days out of a week's stay.

And this guy would visit the balcony regularly regularly:

We were waiting for the DS boat at the Marketplace dock some years ago and watched otters there. They seemed completely at ease with the humans lined up on the dock!

That would be amazing! We had to duck dive bombing bats one night at Wilderness Lodge while running down the walkway from the main lodge to the DVC building. Screams from our kids didn't help....I'd have rather had otters. ;-)

He looks familiar. I watched a big thick black snake from our balcony on hole #5 in turtle pond. Pretty soon a golf ball rolled by and dribbled in, then one hit the pond in the air off the tee. In a few seconds 2 guys rolled up and got out of their cart. I told them both were in the pond and the big black thing 15 feet away was not a limb, but rather a snake and after a few non compliant words they hopped back in cart And were gone. Dropped balls in middle of fairway far away to continue the hole.
My family was too scared to go out on the patio after that. I had alone space for rest of trip and a bird just like that came by in the evenings.
