I have flown a ton in the past but not since 911 (Since I added 2 more children since then lol). So I am not to sure how much the carry on policies has changed. I will be flying with my 1,3 and 8 year old on Delta one way and AirTran the other way. I want to bring the younger kids sippy cups with us. Am I allowed? If so does it need to be an empty cup to pass security? I would be really upset if I got my kids cups taken away. They are just to expensive lol. Can I pack snacks for the kids to bring on the plane? What about electronics like laptop, dvd players, gameboy etc? Are crayons, pens, pensils and small toys allowed? If anyone can think of something else that I did not think of that would be traveled with small children please let me know. I am gonna check in at the gate a dubble stroller and 2 carseats. Is this allowed? Are there any rules to having to check any of these in? Do they count toward your luggage amount?

Thank you so much I just want everything to go as smoothly as possible at the airport. :)

I think that I left my kids sippy cups empty just to be on the safe side and then bought some milk or something at a McDonald's at the gate to fill them. You can't bring water bottles or anything like that. They'll take them away.

You should be fine to pack a backpack with all of their coloring stuff and toys. I did all of that. We also brought a portable DVD player and different members of my family had their laptops. And I always have tons of snacks.

You can bring the carseat on the airplane if they're sitting in it, but I'm not sure if you can gate check those. You might have to check them with the luggage...that's what I've done in the past...but I'm not sure. I know you're okay with the stroller to gate check. They do not count toward your luggage amount.

Most airlines probably have all of their rules posted on their website if you're worried. Have fun...they're going to love the airplane and the trip, I'm sure!

Thank you so much. You have answered all my worries. I meant to say check them with the luggage instead of gate check. I will go and edit that lol. I was on Delta website checking out their rules before posting here. While reading their rules it said "For all liquids, gels, aerosols, and pastes limit each container to a maximum size of 3.0 oz/100ml." So that worried me thats when I came here. I just was not sure if sippy cups would of been allowed. I will read the rest of the rules and I will probably come up with more questions lol. Thanks again!

"You may check child restraint seats and fully-collapsible strollers. They won't count toward your allowance of two checked baggage items.

If you want to use a child restraint seat or stroller to transport your child through the airport, that's fine. Strollers need to be checked at the gate by a Delta agent. Child restraint seats may be checked"

I'd gatecheck those seats (as I just replied to you on another thread, not realizing I'd opened two threads by the same person!), rather than handing them over with your luggage.

But actually, since you have a 3 year old, that child at least has to be in a seat, and I would personally use that car seat on the plane. The regular seat belt wouldn't restrain my 3 year old for a minute! He's in his 5 point harness, definitely, when we fly in December. And after dealing with a 15 month old on a relatively short flight, no 1 year old of mine (should I get another chance at that) will be without a seat either, my arms were SORE!!! Holding him from just Seattle to San Diego was very very difficult.

So if you can with the one year old, and I'd recommend with the three year old, bring those seats onboard! In my opinion (and experience).

I packed game boys, mp3 players, crayons & paper, snacks, wipes (for cleaning hands and behinds) and diapers. We brought the sippy cup empty and then bought a couple of bottled waters once we were through security (some for the wait and some on the plane).

I also had a regular size (much more then 3 oz.) bottle of children's benedryl and a bottle of amociclin (sp?) becuase DS2 thought 3 days before we left would be a good time to get an ear infection. I had stuck them both in a small cooler (bottle size) with an ice brick, the dosing spoons, along with the Dr. address and phone number. My Ped. said if it was a problem, call him when we got to WDW and he would call a new script in for us. Anyway, I opened the cooler at security and they took one look at my son, saw I had obviously been using the bottles and let us through.

I alos agree with Bumbershoot about the carseats! I always put DS2 in one, not only for his safety, but for my peace of mind as well.

Don't count on getting through with more than 3 oz. of liquid. You were lucky they let you through with it.

Actually, with medicines they are fine with it being over 3 oz. But it can't be in the quart bag, and it must be declared, which the poster did.

(this also goes for prescriptions, saline solution, and some other things)
Non-prescription liquid or gel medicines like cough syrup and gel cap type pills - You are allowed to carry up to 3 oz., of eye drops in a clear, one-quart plastic bag. Volumes greater than 3 oz. must be declared to the Security Officer and cannot be carried in your clear, one-quart bag.

Just wanted to add if you're traveling with a laptop and/or DVD player when you go thru security they will want you to take them out of the bag so they can see them. This is fairly new. DH was taking care of that while I was taking care of getting ds and the stroller thru so I don't recall if he had to turn them on or not. We also had our digital cameras w/us but they said they weren't concerned with small electronics like those. Just wanted to mention it.

people have been mentioning the 3-1-1 bag but I thought I'd elaborate.

Each passenger is allowed 1 quart ziploc type bag to hold liquids/gels in their carryon luggage. In your case, you can use 4. anything, whether food or toiletries, that is liquid or gel, must be in this bag. liquid foundation, lip gloss, gogurts, hand lotion, sunblock, diaper cream, etc. Each item in the quart bag must be in original packaging and must be 3 oz. or less. a 4 oz tube of lotion that is half empty is not allowed. the package size must be 3 oz or less. the 3-1-1 bag must be removed from your carryon and placed in a tray to go through tSA.

anything larger than 3 oz (except medication and baby formula/breastmilk/jarred baby food) must go in your checked luggage.

a bagel already smeared with cream cheese is fine to bring through. a plain bagel and a package of cream cheese - the cheese must follow the 3-1-1 rules.

other than the 3-1-1 bag, there are few restrictions on what you can bring. I would choose items carefully jsut for your sanity. you and your oldest child must be able to carry everything the 4 of you will need.
