Flying New York - Orlando

We flew Delta Song last April with three hour delays both directions from Newark to MCO. The icing on the cake was that no one could give us any reason for the delay home (computer shutdowns) and we waited on the runway. Oh, and did I mention that I had my 2 yr old screaming and a high school class aboard both ways? Never again. We almost missed the Disney Cruise.

Thanks for your replies everyone!

PatMcDuck - Thanks for your input.

DVC Guy - I appreciate your opinion. At the moment SONG and Jet Blue both seem to be coming up cheaper than AA. Do you recommend I wait for the fares or snap them up now? Currently I am reading about $59/single from JFK-MCO

Daisy5115 - Sorry to hear of your delay. At least you made your cruise. I guess delays happen with all airlines.....Not sure about the high school classes each way though!

Thanks again!

At 59 a seat I would buy them, the odds of the price going down are pretty slim, that is about rock bottom for NY to MCO. Have a great time and enjoy NYC, about the only place in the US that is as expensive as WDW. I am sitting in my office in midtown about 2 block from Grand Central Terminal, it is a lovely :umbrella: 35 with rain and snow in the forecast.

I work in Manhattan (Fifth Avenue lawfirm) and I can tell you that your idea of the limo to pick you up is the best choice. The LIRR and airtrain are fine for 2 adults who are not in a hurry but to take that with 2 children and luggage could be a nightmare. I would also suggest you go in and out of JFK, better airport than LGA. Enjoy NYC!

Thanks again!

DVC Guy - Millions of Brit's travel over to NY each year simply to shop! It's fast becoming a top tourist destination because of the prices. I read somewhere that, speaking proportionally, more Brit's visit NY than American's do. The great exchange rate (for us) at the moment makes purchases even cheaper! We can get items like CDs and Jeans for less than half the price of over here. Thanks for the info re: the flight rates. I'm getting ready to book the $59 fare now.

msr709 - Thanks for letting me know, I thought that would be the case. I;ve been getting some quotes and they are coming up quite reasonable. With Magical Express offered by Disney now, we will lose our usual "limo fix" (!) so it will be great to have one pick us up in NY.

I have just returned from a New Year trip to NY. I rarely fly direct to Orlando anymore. Firstly because there are so many other places worth seeing and secondly because I have to go at peak times and the direct flights are so expensive.

I have used both AA and Song for domestic flights and we preferred Song. You have found a great price so I would snap those flights up.

The great exchange rate at the moment does make shopping tempting but I must admit we still found that NY was more expensive than home for many things.

Have a great trip.

That's really interesting Tracy about NY prices. All you ever seem to here over here in England is how cheap it is! I guess people exaggerate the price differences.

We also have to travel at peak times (mainly during school holidays) as DS's pre-prep will not allow holidays in term time.

Thanks for the information about SONG. I am just waiting for my NY-JFK and MCO-LGW flights to be confirmed, then I can go ahead and book the JFK-MCO flights. I have to hope that $59 rate holds out a few more days!

TracyK- out of interest, how did you book the flights with song? on the online booking form, it states that an address in the us is needed? am i missing something?!!

Hi Taz,

I had the same problem! I tried to book the flights last night, typed in all the details and then when I got to address it wouldn't let me choose England!

However, you can book the SONG flights via www.expedia.com . They are ocassionaly *very slightly* more expensive, but still cheaper than booking them from the UK expedia site.

But, I'd be interested to know if it is possible to book the flights via SONG direct......

I book through several sources so I can't be sure who I booked through as it was a couple of years ago. It was likely to be Opodo, Travelocity or Expedia.
