I have flown to MCO many times, but never out of Dublin. We have found great flights out of Dublin which connect with a Virgin flight to MCO at Gatwick.
Our flight to Gatwick is with AerLingus and I was wondering the following:-

Will we check in for both flights at Dublin or will we need to check in again for the Virgin flight at a Gatwick?

Will we need to reclaim our luggage at Gatwick or will our luggage be checked all the way to MCO?

How long before our flight should we check in? Two hours or three?

Thanks for any advice xxx:thumbsup2

I love flying from Dublin. Lovely airport and very smooth. Are lingus are fab :)

ChristieK0310, I cannot find on my booking (which I made through Opodo) that I have checked baggage included in the Dublin - Gatwick leg. I know it is always included on Virgin flights, and assume as the flights are connecting ones which were booked together, that checked baggage is included in the AerLingus flight too. I sure hope so!!!

Hi Tinkerbell 766,

I am still trying to figure out your flight plan ( Did you ask this before ? )

You live in UK .... So how are you going to get to Dublin ?

Then you are flying , with Aer Lingus , to Gatwick.

Then Gatwick , with Virgin, to Mco.

And the Return is ?

Check your luggage weight restrictions as you might find that they differ

as you are NOT code sharing flights.

UK to Dublin is ( Hold ) 20 kgs & Cabin overhead is 7 kgs

We are getting to Dublin from Manchester on a Ryanair flight the previous evening. We have paid for our baggage on the Ryanair flight.

You are correct about the rest of our journey. The return is the reverse of the outward journey

We are (essentially) three adults, but as DS is 14, he was classed as a child for the Ryanair flight and, as such, got half price baggage. We will have two checked baggage allowances of 15kg and our hand luggage. This will be fine, and probably more than enough, as we have and Owner's Locker in Orlando with quite a bit of our stuff in it.

Even with our flight to Dublin and a cheap hotel on the night before our flight to Dublin, it still worked out considerably cheaper to do it this way :confused3

I had never thought of looking at this as an option. I'm completely clueless when it comes to flights.

Looking at flights from Scotland to mco. Via Dublin???

I'm quite intrigued by this itinerary.

You fly out from MAN which has direct link to MCO

but you go to DUB on a separate flight, when DUB has a direct link to MCO WITH preclearance for US immigration and customs

and then take an indirect flight through LGW.

It's a lot of time lost and I'm wondering how cheap you managed to get your DUB-MCO flignts indirect to make it worth the extra flight, hotel night, and extra connection at LGW
May I ask how much you paid (for each item) ?

The OP said on another thread that she saved £250 doing it this way - not sure if that was total or per person :confused3

We are doing similar:
Flying newcastle to Dublin night before: £75 per person including hotel, breakfast and transfers. This is comparable to the price for our usual journey to Heathrow/Gatwick/Glasgow with petrol, car parking, overnight hotel & breakfast.

Outward: Dublin-heathrow-New York
Return:jax-Dallas-heathrow-newcastle
BA/AA code share £525 per person

To get any direct flights we would have had to pay over £1000 per person and trust me I looked!
I estimate we have saved £300 -£400 per person doing it this way (4 of us)
We also have the convenience of starting and finishing at an airport only 20mins away from us and so no horrific drive home with jet lag.
The transfers at Heathrow are 2hrs and 3hrs, Dallas 3hrs.
I would rather fly direct but the savings justify the inconvenience my 'boys' are 19 & 17 and good travellers.

Yep we saved at least £250 per person. At the time I looked direct flights to MCO from Manchester were over £1000.00 each (recently come down a tad to £900 and something). Got our flights for £630.00 each. Flight to Dublin £89.00 each, £70.00ish for luggage ( for us all) and £73.00 for a hotel room in Dublin (one room for us all)

Just searched kayak

Current cheapest direct flights for our dates last 3 weeks in August
Lon- New York
Orlando-London
Direct flights £,1171 with delta,

We looked at going via Charlotte, but the overall journey time was longer due to long connection in Charlotte. Plus, this way we get Virgin flights xxx
