Flushable Cat Litter-best brand?

Ok - we have six cats and have had multiple cats (3-6) for 16 years now. The best litter for odor hands down is Feline Pine. And it is flushable. I don't even want to try anything else.

We saw the World's Best Litter in the store the other day and DH said that he wants the corn to go to alternative fuels rather than cat litter.

But you likely don't live in an apartment with a 6 member family, right? Wasn't the poster with the 1-bag limit in an apartment?

Ack no... but we did live in an apt until I got preg with my son we then bought our house... thankfully they didn't have a limit on garbage! I had 2 in diapers then.

We did try the feline pine. One cat (the one that is my avatar that died last yr) liked it but our other cat hates it.

Well, I'm with your DH in that I don't want to see corn wasted in cat litter so I won't buy those kinds. However, I would rather see it go into the bellies of starving children than in the tank of my automobile.

Hi guys,

Thanks for all your help on this!! My DF is still laughing at me that I am going on the Disboards for advice on cat litter!! :rotfl:

After reading your advice, paired with online reviews, I am between World's Best & Nature's Miracle-both got fantastic reviews. Anyone have any experience with Nature's Miracle?

To answer some of your questions...
-NO, not all litter is flushable. ONLY brands that advertise flushable. Otherwise, you will get a clogged toilet!! :scared:
-Yes, I freaked out at first about the one trash bag/week thing too. That is new for us-in the city, we could throw out an entire mattress on trash day if we wanted to!! At our new place in the country, it's one large trash bag/week. BUT, bear in mind that it's just my DF & me (& 2 cats)-no kids/no diapers so I'm assuming that as long as we are separating the recycling (which is allowed in unlimited amounts), we should be ok. It's a 3BR in a 3 family house and my guess is the landlord pays for trash service for the building & they must charge by the bag.

We have less than a bag of trash a week for the two of us (and our cat) because we recycle mostly everything. So, in some places that require recycling, composting, etc. this could easily be achieved.
Not by me, it couldn't. You, of course, could easily accomplish it. You always impress me with your knowledge and ability to do everything. I am humbled and so wildly jealous of your enthusiastic approach and can-do attitude.

But, I couldn't do it (even if I could, I wouldn't wish to bother - don't have that eager, industrious thing going on) and would find a way around it. No composting for me. I'm lazy like that.

Just had to comment on the corn should be as food, fuel etc.

I guess we all have to draw the line where we are comfortable but IMHO all has their disadvantages:
Pine-destruction of forest
wheat(sweat scoop)- food and fuel
corn-food and fuel
clay- mining practices that strip the land, take up room in landfills

paper- I don't believe the more popular yesterdays news is flushable, therefore room in landfills. Papurr I can't think of a negative in general. however my cat will not use the paper litters.

Silica-takes up room in landfills

The only drawback I've read about so far with World's Best is a few reviewers commented about having a gnat or mealworm type worm problem stemming from this brand. Do you have any experience with that?

Nope never had that problem. We've used it for probably 3-4 yrs now if not a little longer.

Sha_lyn, you're absolutely right. It's impossible to create anything without harming the environment or people. All that we can do is try to make informed decisions. I appreciate the above post. There's a lot of things materials that I never really thought of in kitty litter.

I was considering Feline Pine-I've seen it in huge bags & it's much less expensive than the other flushables. The only thing I am unsure about is it looks very different than regular litter-I"m not sure if my girls will go for it.
