Floridian peoples interested in camping at somewhere other than the Fort on a holiday

I don't think Rock Crusher is closed, they sold it to Elite and they are selling sites, but do have rentals. I will look it up and let u know.
As far as the ft and having 8, what about Mmketeer & Pinkee77 they seemed to be interested?

You guys got a great rate, good job. :) But I think we have decided to go back to Holiday Cove in Bradenton at the end of May instead of FTW :) Thanks for thinking of me though.

PS
I am still going to Disney for my birthday at the end of April and we are still planning on going to FTW for Labor Day weekend again though. So, maybe I'll see ya'll then. :)

I think we have decided to go back to Holiday Cove in Bradenton

I just looked at the website for Holiday Cove. My DH grew up in B-ton & I lived in the area for 30 years. Holiday Cove used to be a really dumpy (and I mean really dumpy) RV park with ancient RV's and crap all over the place. I was impressed by what I saw on the website.

My MIL lives in NW Bradenton which is about 1 1/2 hours from where we now live. Her house is really small, so when we go to visit for a weekend, we dry camp in her driveway which I'm sure the neighbors love to hear our generator running. I'm going to have to look into Holiday Cove. Thanks for sharing your alternate plans - although I'll miss seeing you at the MDW gathering!

Ok, I have us set up for $63 a night total group rate for MDW. She will mail me the contract next week and I have until the 22nd to send it in. Each party will be responsible for calling once there is a ressie number and paying for 1 night. I think CLKelly is now on the list too.

More good news is she can get us this same rate for the 4th of July. It's only full hookup but hey, I say instead of $80 a night we do this. I'm sure the one's who want a premium could get it at a higher rate if you really have to have that much more space.

I think we might have finally found a good CM who can help on the holiday rates.

Good job. I just looked at our 4th of July ressies & we're paying $80. :(

What a hidden jem Bradenton was fo us. It's only a little over an hour from our home (same distance as Disney). Bleive it or not, I had never been there even though I have lived in the Tampa area all my life, usually we are heading down to Fort Myers and just never thought of stopping there until my boss started staying Anna Maria every year and talk us into trying it.

Yeah, Holiday Cove wasn't very "Disney like" when we stayed there for my birthday last year, but it did have a cable (which we have to have) and free wireless access (which was really nice) and it allowed pets. DH did try fishing in their canal and fish were jumping anywhere, but he didn't have any luck. LOL! We only went to for the weekend, so we didn't use the resort's facilities, but it was real convient to ride our bikes over to the beach and we loved the fresh seafood. Their are some great places to eat around there! The folks were real nice there as well at the resort. We had a good time and would've went back even if they hadn't made the improvements. :)

This time we are gonna try and take the free trolley upto Anna Maria as we tried to ride our bikes all the way up there last time, but we just couldn't make it. I really love the beach town over there and the houses are kinda small, but they have such character. :) It's a really cute beach town. Hey if you go back during the weekend of May 31st let me know and we'll have a beer togther!!

Deb..I took a ride in to see Holiday Cove last year when I went to Anna Maria. It's just before the bridge taking you onto the island..so location is great. Only at that time it was kind of torn up. There was work going on and sites being cleared. It seems that they are trying to sell the sites, some of them had pavers..that sort of thing.
Naturally, my kids compared it to RV resorts we previously camped in and weren't impressed, but I could see the potential and the location was great. It looked as if they were working deligently last year..and I hope to see if they've made progress when we go back to Anna Maria in May. I'd love to be able to bring my trailer there. I'd even be interested in storing my trailer there, and flying down. Something to think about.

Ohhhhhhh, Phyllis!!! I'm so sorry for turning you into an A.M.I. junky!!!

If you had seen that place about 10 years ago, you would have passed right by it! The kids of the original owners had it handed down to them (by kids I mean those who went to school with Rick in the 60's & 70's). They let it deteriorate so badly that it ended up being a place that the Cortez fishermen would flop in & do their drug deals, do their drugs, and was a constant stop on the Bradenton's PD's nightly tour. I think you get the picture - a real s**t hole! That's why I was so surprised to see Mmkteer post how nice it was & even more surprised when I checked out their website. What a transformation!!!

We both have Friday off, so I think we might go pay a visit to his mom & check the place out. It's only about 3 miles from her house - so great for a weekend visit. Plus, if it's still there, there's a little restaurant that cooks some great wings - in a little plaza on the right before you head over the bridge. It's called Sandy's Wings & Things and I went to school in WNY with the gal that owns it. I hope she has survived this economy!

Well, I just Googled Wings 'n Things. It looks like the Sarasota location is still there under new owners. It doesn't mention the B-ton location.

I take that back...I found the Cortez Rd. location!! Yippee!!

Deb, let me know what you think when you check it out.
My DH and I have talked about going there, it has boat docks and it would be a good place to bring the boat. I'm not sure it our boat is to big, its's 26ft deck boat. If we could it would be a great quick get away. It is also only about 30 - 45 min. from our house.

Be glad to!

On a different subject... if you have never been to the Ruskin Drive-In Theatre on US 41 in Ruskin, you MUST take your family there. Good friends of ours own it & it's a terrific place to see 1st run movies (2 movies each night) for $5.00/adult. Their snack bar has home made pizza and hamburgers, and Mr. Ted will give you a tour of the projection booth. He also picks one child each night to help him start the projector. You can either use a speaker or listen to the sound on your car radio. Their #1 rule is no alcohol - so don't bring any beer or kungaloosh. Ted is very strick about this. Also, bring lawn chairs with you if you'd like to sit outside in front of your vehicle.

If you go, ask to speak with Ted or Karen in the snack bar & tell them Rick & Deb sent you!

Deb, I remember you telling me about that dive in one time before. We talked about going but never seem to get there. My DH is recovering from surgery and is having a hard time sitting in one place for long. The first two weeks he had to stay reclining. We will check it out some time in near furture.

Donnie any word on the GG number yet?

I have a theory about the GG number.....

FIRST - I have no doubt that Donnie did exactly as he said he did & is waiting for the GG number from Disney so we can all get the special rate of $63/nite.

What my "theory" is...is this....

Donnie will receive the letter once FtW has been fully booked by those willing to pay full price for the MDW, thus leaving all of us in the lurch. If you already have a ressie, I think you have to cancel & re-book to get the discounted rate. If you cancel your 1st ressie & then try to re-book, you'll be told there are no sites available. I've played this game once too often with CRO. I don't think that FtW is hurting enough right now to be willing to actually follow thru on their offer to Donnie, and if so, it'll be too late anyhow.

Call me jaded ..... but that's how I feel. I hope I am wrong.

I was thinking on those same lines. I don't have a rese yet and since everytime I call they are booked, what good is it if they give us a number and don't have any sites? Do they supposedly put those sites on hold for us?
