Florida residents unite!

I am from NY and to be honest, I think you Florida residents should be happy disney decided to build their parks in your state. You know how much tax money the state makes off of disney? I don't but I am sure it is ALOT! Here in NY, we don't get discounts at local attractions or hotels because we live in the state. I will be honest, I never understood why disney gave Florida residents a discount anyway.

You want to not have to worry about Disney telling you when to go... buy an AP, not only do you get to go when you feel like it you also get free parking and discounts at certain food places, discounts on merchandise, and discounts on hotels.

Great idea! Screw my kids' college because I want to go to Disney in the summer! Excuse me, I've got to go, for I'm heading to the bank, right now!

I'm not saying I couldn't buy a non resident ticket all if I want to pay full price (which I obviously don't) I'm saying is Disney is becoming controlling over us Florida residents telling us when we can go by blocking out dates if we choose to buy a Florida resident ticket.

But that is not new. I haven't been a resident for 5 years and I don't know the various options that were recently available vs. what is now available, but we had the seasonal annual pass and also some other kind of ticket when we lived there (can't remember the name, something with 4 and 3 in the name I think - think they were good for 6 months) and those were blocked out for summer, holidays, etc. So blocking out dates for the discounted options has always been the case.

Hate to break it to all you "Disney can do no wrongers" but FL Resident discounts have become an industry standard meaning that the only reason they haven't removed them completely is that they would receive an unimaginable amount of negative PR from residents and competitors. Disney should offer a year-round discount for FL Residents. It has been that way for nearly 40 years and that is how it should continue.

Well, as I said - I didn't know what was currently available - I only knew my experience with what I had purchased in the past as a FL resident and everything we had chosen to purchase had blackout dates.

I don't take any of this personal! I look at it from a grown-up point of view, not a self entitled p.o.v., Disney wants to make more money off of their FL residents and they've found a way to do it. It's your choice to either accept it or not.

This rule sucks for Florida Residents. I am a school teacher/ adjunct prof, and the only time I can plan a long trip is during the summer. Its fine, I will just start spending my time at Universal. My family loves it and theres a lot of other places we would like to go. This is the reason why we have annual passes there and still have not bought passes for disney.

And all of the people who are complaining about the florida residents having a rate are crazy!! it is the same in every state. When I went to Hershey Park Residents of Pennsylvania got discounts. Its the same so its not fair for everyone to say its not fair.

I for one feel your pain and I am not a Florida resident. Disney, under Mr Iger has begun a transition at disneyworld. That transition is one of trying to price out the lower middle class. Whether they live in Florida or any other state. Ticket increases have gone crazy, so have on site room prices. My family used to go every year,now it has been almost 4 years since we have gone. If or when we go back there will be major cutbacks on our vaction. It really saddens me as I watch disneyworld become a playground for the wealthy. It truly wasn't in the 80's and 90's.

As a Florida resident who has made numerous long weekend trips over the years, I find the new rules with the blackout dates just wrong. It's almost like saying don't bother coming when the out-of-staters are here anyway, but we'll be happy to take your money when it's slow.

Since I bought seasonal tickets in April (after much debating), I'll be sticking to the blackout dates anyway, but I feel for people who can only go during peak times. And by the way, I find the price increase for the seasonal pass to $299 rather shocking. I doubt I'll be renewing.

I'm not trying to pick at you - I really don't care what kind of discounts Disney gives to FL residents, but what you wrote IS exactly the point. They don't need FL residents there clogging up the parks more when it's crowded, not spending much and on discounted entry tickets.

Pricing changes are made to effect changes in behavior.

Wouldn't think of it. There are very good reasons why those homes have been foreclosed on. Besides, the humidity sucks and too many people there still believe that Creationism should be part of the public school curriculum.

So let's see. A local tax-paying business offers you a courtesy discount even though you're not being inconvenienced in any way whatsoever. Now that discount doesn't have quite as many perks to it but still exists nonetheless.

WDW had a rocky start. The Florida residents carried them through and got the theme parks off the ground. They did that, in part through some perks that Disney offered to keep from having a colossal white elephant on their hands.

Disney has been sending messages to "locals" for some time now. The DDP is one such message. Don't come just for dinner. You can't walk up anymore, and we've changed the quality of the food preparation and the menus to cater to the onsite guest, not the local.

That's fine. We'll dine elsewhere and it won't make a bit of difference to Disney. Really it won't.

If you don't care for the many changes (nor do I) then simply adjust to them and take your money elsewhere. If you still like parts of WDW, then frequent just those events, or parks, or times of year that you like.

I understand the implied insult, because it is. "We" carried them through the lean years, and now that they are so phenomenally big, they no longer need us.

That really is ok though. We'll move on, as Disney has.

Thanks for having my back Andyman! also thanks for the link, I will be sending them an email, I used to go several times a year, now I'm down to once a year all because they have no use for us locals, didn't we help them become what they are today? Where is the love for us residents. Sorry but Disney is beginning to loose the magic for me.

So did everyone else!! I would guess the average out-of-state visitor leaves far more money at WDW than a state resident.

I just renewed our FL resident APs (not the seasonal, so not dealing with blackout dates- I don't THINK, anyways). We do the pay-by-the-month thing, so it doesn't feel AS offensive price-wise, when I'm only shelling out $25/month per ticket...As long as they continue to offer that option, I will continue to renew.

Although, I didn't know they were charging a 3-year old an adult price...I have a 2 month old baby now- when she gets to that point, I may re-evaluate...
