DCL has released Florida resident discounts for 7, 4 and 3 day cruises during July and August. Here and the dates and categories available:

7-day:
7/13 - Cat 9 and 11
7/27 - Cat 9 and 11
8/10 - Cat 9 and 11

4-day:
7/7 - Cat 9, 10 and 11
7/14 - Cat 9 and 10
7/21 - Cat 6, 9, 10 and 11
7/28 - Cat 5, 9, 10 and 11

3-day:
7/4 - Cat 5, 6, 9, 10 and 11
7/11 - Cat 5, 9, 10 and 11
7/18 - Cat 5, 9 and 10
7/25 - Cat 5, 6, 9 and 10

Good luck!

I thought that july and august are some of the busiest cruising months of the year, why would they offer FL discounts for those months? Is booking slow for those cruises?

Well, I think this shows that they have an easier time booking the longer cruises than the shorter ones... fewer dates and lower categories available for the longer cruises.

Kaa where do you look to find out the information about FL resident discounts????

I'm sure one reason that the 7-day cruises fill up faster simply because there are 52 a year compared with 104 a year for the 3- and 4-night cruises. Especially with the Western and Eastern rotating gives more options also.

With the new Western itinerary, those cruises seem to be filling up faster because of the novelty...the dates above for the 7-night are all Eastern itinerary.

There are MORE shorter cruises (obviously!) :) and slightly less demand because of the popularity of the 7-night cruises, hence the additional discounting for Florida residents.

Zurgswife,

I am with Dreams Unlimited, so I speak with DCL just about every day. One of the CMs I spoke with this morning mentioned they were busy with the new Florida resident discounts, so I asked for details and she provided the information. I thought this information would be helpful to the Florida DISers.

I called yesterday afternoon as soon as I saw this posted. Was interested in the 3-day cruises on July 4th and July 18th. July 4th category 11 was $457.75/person. July 18th FL resident rates were already gone! Ack!

I tried to get a quote on the Disney website for FL Res rates but couldn't do it so I called Disney....These prices are so UNBELIEVABLY cheap...Listen to this:

7 day 7/27 2 adults, 2 kids, cat 9.....$2,765.40!!!

4 day 7/28 2 adults, 2 kids, cat 10...$1515.40, cat 9....$1555.40, cat 5....$2,215.40

We already have a 4 day trip booked in Sept so now the decisions begin.....Do we cancel that and go for the 7 day in July? Or the 4 day in July? Or keep the trip we already have planned? Oh, what to do, what to do???

Thank you Kaa for the heads up on this....they should have advertised it or something! By the way, I asked and they said that there are currently no Sept FL Res discounts. If anybody knows whether they will be offering this in Sept please let us know.

well...
in all honesty, i find it irritating that a cruise for which i'm paying four arms and five legs is being stuffed by disney at bargain basement rates...

but then again, that's how it always works....
but that doesn't alter the fact that if the ship ends up packed and with long lines i'll be irritated....

Disneyholic Family,

I'm right there with you! Although I am thrilled to find such amazing prices, I wish that everybody out there didn't have to know about it! Wouldn't it be great if they just offered a "DISer" discount?

I would be particularly annoyed to find out that others were able to get the same thing I was getting for a significantly lesser amount of money than I was paying.

I'm sorry if I kind of rubbed it in by posting the quotes I got...I was hoping to help someone else but I see how it could be irritating.

Anyway, I'm sure we're all gonna have a great time whenever we cruise!

oh.....i'm not irritated with anyone who takes the discount....
they'd be stupid not to....
just as i would take advantage of it if i could...

i'm just irritated with disney for offering discounts for the cruise i'm on.....the rates i paid are the very highest all year long.....that's what i was told...4th of july is peak...or so they told me and so it justified astronomical rates...originally we were booked for june but had to switch for july 4th....we booked very very very far in advance and for the june sailing had a discount....we also switched very very very far in advance to the 4th but they said that for the 4th no discounts applied because it's the 4th of july....
and then they go giving it away at a fire sale...

just another disney irritation to add to my ever lengthening list....

Sonya...I saw this in today's USA Today, and noticed you have a Sept. cruise planned. You might want to see if you can get these rates for your cruise if they are better than the rate you already booked at.

4-Night Cruise
Starting at $519/adult
$299/child
(Starting rates are for categories 11-12)
Valid for most sailings commencing 9/1/02-11/17/02 and 12/1/02-12/15/02.

That was awfully nice of you. As a matter of fact, DH and I discussed the whole good rates in July thing and we decided to keep our Sept cruise to break up the year more for us as far as vacations go.

We are 2 adults, 2 kids in a category 10 on the 4 day cruise. We are paying $1655 which I thought was a darned good deal! The rates you saw in the paper work out to about the same but for a cat 11 or 12 so I think we're fine with what we've already got. But thanks!

I know how you all feel...
With as many Disney cruises as we take, we run into a lot of FL residents and are always very jealous of their awesome rates (plus they don't have the additional airfare expense). But I guess it's like anything else...the person sitting next to you on the airplane might be flying at half your price, and when we check in a hotel with our Hotwire or Priceline rate, we hear people checking in right next to us paying twice our price and sometimes even more. But that still doesn't keep me from dreaming that the newest Castaway Club benefit will someday be a steep discount after the 25th cruise :D (we should practically qualify as FL residents, since we spend so much time on the ship).

yes i know that rationally....
but i like being irrational every now and then...

although i never get upset about frequent flyers as i figure they have to put in all that flying time to get those benefits....and i'd rather walk on hot coals than fly.....so they're welcome to them...

(unfortunately, to get to our vacation we have to fly and fly and fly.... ....maybe if when we're on this cruise i discover i can survive a boat i'll start crossing the atlantic by ship....:D )

I'm pretty sure that Carnival Cruises offers Florida Resident too... and they have ports nationwide!!!! Maybe all the cruise lines do????

I think they are trying to do what ANY OF US WOULD DO if we owned a cruise ship and we had EMPTY cabins.

We would try to SELL them at a discount, rather than leaving the cabin open.

They must think that it's easier for FL residents to book at short notice, because we don't have flight reservations to contend with.

This might be Disney's thoughts on the matter... but it sure doesn't make sense to me. In this day and age of online booking, priceline, etc, it's pretty easy to get a "last minute fare." That being said, these fares run into August. Even if someone's employer required 3 months notice for vacation time, anyone from anywhere in the US could still book one of these dates.

So... this brings me to my question... why DOES Disney offer Florida resident discounts? I can't see any reason to offer it to passengers simply because of their proxmity to the port. Is it just a holdover from the earlier days of cruising?

I might understand a discount to couples cruising without children to fill empty cabin since DCL apparently has a policy to limit the number of children on certain cruises due to staffing requirements in the kids' programs. But I admit to still being baffled about the Florida resident discount.

They offer really great deals at the parks for Florida residents as well. My impression has been that this is an attempt to be a good neighbor. After all, they have a major impact on the Central Florida economy and often have to ask for special considerations in front of local government panels. It simply wouldn't do to alienate their neighbors.

I booked the 7/25 3 day cruise just a few days ago. Be aware that the Disney website showed most categories available, but when I called the choice is very limited. For example, the category 6 on deck 6 only had a few choices left all way in the aft of the ship. Same thing with category 11. Nothing left on deck 7.

I book with DVC points, so it did not make a difference to me as far as pricing without early booking savings. This 3 day cruise, at least, is quite full already. :)
