Florida: Paradise Lost ITV 26th August 9pm *On Tonight*

Welcome to the DIS.

Got the programme recorded - will bear in mind all the comments when I watch.

Pudseychancer - which channel are house in florida repeats on. I used to love that programme - we went to Anna Maria Island the first time because of seeing it on there.

We have been away over the weekend but we recorded this to watch, I must say that I thought the editing was pretty shocking!

I felt very sorry for the people who bought the home cinema business, being in business myself I know how difficult it is to make something work, especially if as Mike says you have been decieved into thinking that the business is making money when it's not. There are a lot of unscruplious people out there just waiting to take advantage of those who are holding on to their dream.

I'm sure that many of us on here have this dream, I know that I do. DH and I have risked almost everything to start our business here in the UK, thankfully for us we are doing ok, but there have been times when it's been quiet and we have been worried. I can;t imagine having that feeling 4000 miles from home with no family to help.

Mike - I am really pleased to hear that your family are making a go of it. The programme should have explained that they had their flights booked for a visit.

As for the tea room people, I thought the concept of the business was really good and well done for them on making it a great business, they have obvioulsy done well out of property too. I did think that them being so rude about their customers won't have done them any favours, and I think that she should maybe Google American History as there is quite a bit of it out there ;) :goodvibes

I enjoyed the TV programme and I did feel for those people who didn't get the dream lifestyle they worked so hard for.
I have family in the USA (not Florida unfortunately) and I know all about the medical insurance nightmare. One of my sisters found herself trapped in an endless spiral of debt and legal battles because her American husband became very ill.
I would urge anyone thinking of relocating to take some time to reflect on the issues raised by this TV show. I think it is a good idea to do it over a period of time rather than uproot and leave yourself nothing to return to here if things don't work out. Life in the USA is great if you are rich and healthy but if not all the hard work in the world may not help you.
Despite the shows shortcomings I feel it gave a pretty good idea of what different experiences Brits have had in Florida.
