Florida: Paradise Lost ITV 26th August 9pm *On Tonight*

I'm sure most people who watched the program realised it was a highly edited, biased view of making a new life in Florida, made to be entertaining not informative. I imagine every one of the people shown was misrepresented in some way. It's such a shame because it's a dream for so many people and this could have been an oportunity to learn more about the processes involved in moving there.

Ok probably gonna get flamed for this but here it goes anyway ...

Anyone else think its strange that the 2 people we discuss here on this thread BOTH join as new members (not been on boards before) and comment on it.......seems a little strange to me, think someone is messing with us.:confused3

Yup, I'm thinking trolls too. Perhaps the producer of the programme will be along next...:rotfl:

Not going to flame you at all Terri but I do beleive they are both making valid points without going to over the top.

PS. I didn't see Jenny's pre-edited comments so I cannot comment on that part.

Oh yeah i think there valid, just dont believe its the people from the programme making them!...and not someone else.

I'm not going to blast you for your comments:)
I am new to this thread because my mum and stepdad took part in the programme and it's only natural that I would want to reply to comments about them. Wouldn't you? I'm not a troll.I am a 21 year old student. I was upfront about it being my family. They have been arguing with the exec director about them cutting out any reference to the fraud which was the only reason they took part. They also cut out loads of the interview in their garden as most of it was about the fraud case, now it looks like my mum was constantly talking over my stepfather- which wasn't true, but was funny. With the business, If I am careful legally, I can say that the bookwork was 'right' for the business that they bought. due diligence was done on those books and was fine. However the guy had two shops. One was getting the bulk of the money in. One was making next to nothing.(they didn't know about this) The bookwork showed the business they were buying as making money. that is what they bought. guess what they actually got? Shortly it may no longer be a just a civil case. They added the bit on the end of the programme as my parents insisted after The Sun told them nothing was mentioned about the fraud. I'm not on here to upset people, just to explain better what wasn't shown from our family. in my opinion if you take part in something like this then people are going to have a go anyway, but it's just annoying to me that the producers cut it all out. Personally i started worrying at the very beginning when that cheap tinny music came on.

:thumbsup2

I don't doubt that the couple who were successful have put the hard work in, certainly when they have the numbers to back it up. But when hearing them state that they "fell down the walls laughing at some of the things that have come out of our mouths', whilst incredulously stating that people would pay "$20 for a cup of tea and some cucumber sandwiches" then it's a fine line between trying to be entertaining, and dropping a clanger like Gerald Ratner!

I also liked the "Americans don't have any history" quote - in fact, I'm still laughing at that now!

Anyway, good luck to all on the show, hope it [eventually] works out well. :thumbsup2

Thats exactly how I feel, it was the comments that got me, obviously they are hard working have to be to make the business successful, although hard working isnt the only thing to make a success of any business.

i was curious and did a google search with 'florida paradise lost' as keywords. I'm trying to put my avitar on but it keeps locking up. It would prove I am who I say I am.

Don't worry about it, Mike. :)

It just seemed like a weird coincidence, that's all. I just hope that if I keep mentioning Brad Pitt, he might turn up on the Dis too.;)

I was just going to say I might have a moan about George Clooney to see if he suddenly appears :lmao:

Thanks. If I can put just one more point across as I've re read some other comments. My mum came back at xmas as they had no money left.I mean none. It could have been May, June whatever. Our family wanted the boys to have a good xmas :santa: and we made sure we made the best of it for them. My sisters moved in with them and the whole family paid the first two months rent for them. we are a big family and we care about each other. I was outside the room when they made them tell my little brother about his dad going back without him. They didn't want to do it and my mum even said on camera that she thought it was a bad idea and got them to stop. That got cut out. But tbh it helped him know where his dad was and he settled the best out of the three. I'm not here to argue with anyone and I thank you for not being negative to me. I do wonder now about the first couple. Maybe they were encouraged to act up by the producer. They must feel bad now because they are getting a hard time of it. As for the B&B people, I'm really pleased for them. I wish them all more success. My parents are slowly turning things around. They got to keep the house. The house only cost the same as my terraced house does here.It does look huge on TV but it isn't. I hope they get justice. Thank you all for being polite to me and for listening.
This is a great site so I'm going to check it out more and look into the Harry Potter stuff. Thanks again

Mike, you have nothing to prove. I would like to say a warm welcome to the DIS and I hope things work out for your family.

yep this was my point too, on you both, not just you....... and i googled the tv programme too and saw it in the 2nd page tis thread , you are right about the way they portayed your family id be cross if it was mine.
Didnt mean to upset anyone, nice to hear the other side of the story.

thanks for the welcome. My avatar is now up. It's Disney 2007 so a bit dated but shows I am sincere. By the way my step father is 6 ft 6 so I'm not as small as I look, lol

Just caught up on this thread. Wow, I wouldn't say I am naive, but when you watch something like this, it is so easy forget that the producers can edit the footage to put across basically any angle they choose. Mike - I am really sorry your family have had things so difficult, which has obviously been made worse by the programme, but I am really glad that things are working out better for them now. Good luck with everything :goodvibes
