Flooded POTC boats

People keep mentioning weight - Is it really that much of a factor compared to years ago?

The boats are designed to hold a specific amount of weight. Too much weight will cause a boat to sink, or at least ride lower than it should. If they are suddenly adding one more person to each row (there are 5 rows if I remember correctly) than they used to, that could easily be an extra 1000 pounds. Let's just say the ride boats are designed to safely carry 3500 pounds. If they put on 2 adults and 1 child in each row the boats will be just fine weighing in under 3000 pounds with no problem. Now, let's say they decide to stick 4 adults across each row (extreme, but could happen). Let's say each adult weighs 185 (a good number will be over 200 realistically, and some will be around 150 so this should be a decent average). Now your weight is 3700 pounds...200 pounds over the limit. This could cause it to ride lower, making the water pour right on over the top or sides. I don't know how deep the water is there, but it could cause it to ride low enough to get stuck on the track.

I'd be so mad if I got soaked on POTC! I've never gotten more than a slight splash on it before. There are a bunch of signs in the Splash Mountain ride that say you're going to get wet, but I don't remember seeing anything like that on POTC. It's pretty hard to miss that Splash will get you wet, plus you see people going down the slide part and it looks like they're getting wet. POTC is all enclosed, so how would a new person know? I dislike getting wet but I'll ride Splash for my kids because I've never gotten horribly wet. We have never been on Kali River Rapids because I don't care to get soaked. I'll be skipping POTC unless...maybe the very back row is safe?

I honestly wonder if Disney sees this as a problem that needs fixing. Folks here do. They are getting wet but folks are also not getting wet. I know some here have reported their displeasure at getting wet so there are some records of it but are there many? A few may just not be enough for Disney to see it as a problem that needs fixing. A few may be within their range of what is normal on this ride. Sadly it may be they won't see it as a problem that needs fixing until something bad happens. Just my guess but I'm thinking Disney doesn't see it as broken so no plans to fix anything

It's a ride on water and you may get wet??!!! How can this be?
Yes, but for decades IASW, POTC ect have been rides on water where you DON'T get wet. I don't expect to get soaked on IASW, and I don't think I am alone in that. Up until a short time ago, I didn't expect to get more than a small splash on pirates because that i the way it has been since the ride opened in '71. If they are changing the game, the need to tell people.

Yes, but one thing we learned in the "disappointment" thread is once it's public knowledge then people no longer have right to complain about it. You are not entitled to be dry.

People's idea of soaked is very subjective as is people's idea of what a "foot" of water is. I've been splashed every time I've been on that ride, its a ride on water with a plunge so yea you may get wet but I highly doubt people are getting splash mountain wet or there is a foot of standing water in the boat.

No, but I would like to know that getting wet is a possibility BEFORE I get in the boat. Not everyone reads this forum and unless Disney makes it clear that the expectations have changed, they won't know.

I got SOAKED 2 years ago. Splash mountain soaked. I was dripping. My shoes were full of water. My clothing was saturated from the waist down. Water came over the bow of the boat and into my lap. A LOT of water.

Thats 2 years ago so its not from a redesign or how many people there shoving in a boat, it like splash mountain, rode it new years and me and my gf made it off with just a few drops, we hot-laped (like a boss) and we were drowned like we just came out of a pool. It's a ride on water, its pot luck.

Well I can give you some examples that are more measurable and objective so you can put to rest any doubts about people's "subjectivity" about being soaked. While sitting in the front row recently I took an actual small wave to the face. I'm not a short person and it's not like the front of the boat just dipped and allowed some water to flow in. I'm talking about full on smacked in the face with cold, nasty water to the point where I was gasping and choking on water from the "surprise". When I got off the ride, I had to go to the bathroom to fix the mascara running down my face and put my head under the dryer to try and repair my hair. When I got back to my room hours later my underclothing was still significantly damp and this was an 80 degree day. And maybe most impressively- even though my 2 year old is reliably potty-trained, I had him in a pull-up for the trip just in case we weren't able to get out of line in time to make it to a bathroom, etc. When we got off the ride, not only were his clothes wringing wet, his pull-up was comically swollen with soaked up water. Looked as if he had sat down in a swimming pool or something, he was waddling lol. This is NOT just a small splash and the fact that it happens in the pitch dark makes it even more unpalatable!

Lol its a ride on water, somethings gonna get wet.

It's a Small World is a ride on water is a ride on water and no one gets wet; The Land ride at Epcot is a ride on water and no one gets wet. This is different, quite different. Indeed, Maelstrom was dry compared to POTC of late. And the dozens of unpleasant and uncomfortable experiences mentioned on the seven pages here so far underscore the concern.

2 years ago was when they put in the new boats though. If it is an issue caused primarily by the lighter boats, then it is completely possible they did get soaked

But it wasn't like that for the 5 years before. I NEVER got wet. This started happening to us, and I started seeing reports of it after the refurb 2 years ago.

Exactly!! 2 years ago, this isn't something new and probably 8-10 million people have rode it in that 2 years.

Look. Reality has no place in a discussion with an apologist. Just be thankful Disney allowed you to pay them $105 to get soaked. People in the rain have to get wet for free.
