Flooded POTC boats

Exactly!! 2 years ago, this isn't something new and probably 8-10 million people have rode it in that 2 years.
But has Disney put up any sort of notice, like you see on EVERY water ride on property that soaks you? No. Not everyone has been to Disney in the last 2 years, or reads this board. You went from " people aren't really getting soaked" to "It's been happening for 2 years" pretty quickly.

People gonna complain about everything and convince themselves their entitled because they (Disney made me) spent 110 bucks to get in the door. Complain because its so hot but come every summer, mad because they got a lil wet on pirates the run to splash and get mad cuz they only got tinkled on.
Lower your expectations jut a tad and you may just be surprised.

I went on POTC the night of the 12th and DH and I had the pleasure of sitting at the front. I had heard of people complain about the water, so I was bracing myself (not because I mind getting wet, but because its darn cold in there!). Because the ride had just reopened a few minutes earlier the boat arrived dry as a bone. However, when we went down the hill, our legs got pretty wet. Not soaked, but wet enough that I was cold and shivering for the rest of the ride. But all in all, I like the refurb and the new boats. Honestly, it fits the themeing to get a little wet.

P.S. I think the water in ANY water based ride in Disney is disgusting, so I don't see the how getting wet on POTC is any different from getting wet on Splash Mountain. You are not swimming in it. That just my humble opinion. As long as I am not wading through the water, I am fine.

I don't have a problem with getting wet as long as I know going in it is going to happen. I went in blind to that and got drenched. Had I known I would have at least changed my shoes. All I am saying is that if Disney intends Pirates to now be a water ride, they should make that clear to people before boarding.

its been going on for 2 years and just had another reno, maybe it's supposed to be this way?? I'm almost 100% positive Disney knows what's going on and people are getting wet.

Have we come to the point where getting wet is a life altering experience.

Well, I'm certainly glad I read this. We did go on POTC when we were last there earlier this year. I didn't notice any difference, but since we'll be riding in a couple weeks at the MVMCP, I would hate getting socks and shoes both wet on a really cold evening. I'll be taking extra socks...

I agree. We weren't upset about getting drenched (aside from a small "ew" moment when thinking about the water getting in my nose and eyes) in fact, we giggled about it afterward. However, the point is that the extreme splashes that are happening seem to be a departure from how the ride operated in the past. If you have never ridden, or are expecting it to be the way it was when you rode 5 years ago you are going to be unhappily surprised. There is not sufficient warning outside the ride and since you cannot see it from the queue, you have no way of knowing. In the past I would have felt comfortable taking a baby on this ride and situating myself in the middle of a row. If I had an infant on with me this time, I would have been irate, the amount of water that washed over us would have been WAY unsafe for a baby sitting in your lap!

"The most amazing things that can happen to a human being will happen to you, if you just lower your expectations."
Phil Dunphy

Maybe that should be Disney's new marketing strategy.

BTW did they do something different with the dog in the refurb? I'm not sure how I'd feel about getting tinkled on.

It isn't about if it is a "life altering experience." What I am saying is that if it is supposed to be that way Disney needs to provide some sort of notice, like they do on EVERY OTHER ride that gets you wet. People expect to be notified that they will be soaked on a ride because that is the standard Disney has set forth from day 1. If a ride is going to soak you there are multiple notices about it BEFORE YOU BOARD so you can make the decision as to if you would like to be soaked or not. It is disconcerting to say the least to be on a ride and suddenly be soaked when you weren't told it was going to happen. I HATE walking around a park wet. I HATE wet shoes. I wouldn't have chosen to ride had i known I was going to get soaked. As i have said several times, most Disneyworld guests don't read this forum and many haven't been in the last two years. Those people will have the same experience I did with no warning.

I hadn't thought about this, but its a good point. I don't konw what would have happened with an infant in my arms when I got soaked. It was a LOT of water and at a minimum would have hit a baby on my lap square in the face. A baby inhaling that water wouldn't be good at a minimum and the shock of water hitting when you don't expect it while holding an infant is dangerous.

What bothers me more than the splash is the standing water in the boat. To me that is gross and I would not want to sit with water covering my sneakers while holding my bag on my lap. I would not put my bag in the water.

At least if you know the splash is coming, you can try to duck your head and cover your face with your arms.

This is a really good point and a good example of where they are pushing it with this.

Other true water rides have height requirements so the safety of babies and toddlers aren't an issue.

I think they are really pushing it by allowing this to continue. If it's something as easy as not packing the boats so much, then they are fools. Regardless, it needs to be fixed. But maybe when someone gets hurt they will fix it.

I don't usually reply to these types of posts, but are you for real? I don't want to put my feet in ankle deep standing water. Many people are making us aware of this issue, thankfully. I am grateful to them and have canceled my FP for POTC. I won't willingly put myself on a ride that for years was not a YOU'LL GET SOAKED ride. It's why I avoid Kali. If I had not read this thread I would have ridden it and probably been pretty aggravated, if not downright angry.

One need only look at Disney's website and the attraction descriptions to know POTC is NOT a "water ride" nor are riders supposed to be getting wet. Go on...go read it for yourself...and while you're at it, read the description of an ACTUAL water ride (Splash) for comparison.

I feel you. There is water all around the property so you have no right to expect to be dry at any time.

Ferry Boat - Water ride. You're getting wet

Tree of Life - you walked over a bridge to an island. You're getting wet.

World Showcase - There's a body of water right in the middle. You're getting wet.

Little Mermaid - the whole premise is its under water. You're getting wet.

Adjust your perceptions people.

I know the water in Splash Mtn. is circulated and filtered to some extent. It's part of the Keys to the Kingdom Tour to take you backstage for that ride.

When I go on Kali River Rapids or Splash Mountain, I know not to take my DSLR on the ride with me because the signs say "You WILL get wet. You MAY get soaked." On POTC, I've never gotten wet. If I took my camera on that ride and my camera got soaked, I would be royally pissed off. If the ride has changed since I started riding it 30+ years ago (I go every year. I did not ride it only once 30 years ago) , they need to put up signs.

Edit to add: the point about the baby above is even better. I have a 6 month old baby. The possibility of her choking on water means there need to be a height restriction on the ride or signs if this is how it's going to be now.

Thank you, OP, for the warning.

Guess it's all about who gets in the boat with you? I just rode this past Saturday and there was no "standing" water in the bottom of the boat - it was wet, yes, it's a water ride so I expect that.... but there was absolutely no 6+ inches of water, lol.

I also didn't get soaked at any time during the ride, nor did anyone else that I noticed. Just the normal splashing involved in the cannon room and at the bottom of the hill. I didn't notice any difference in the amount of "wetness" and I've been riding it since 1980's.

Perhaps I got lucky and was in a boat with lighter weight people, lol.

It sounds like it's random. You may get soaked, you may stay dry, you may be sitting in a dry boat, you may be sitting in water up to your ankles.
