Are flip flops at WDW a really bad idea?

I was planning on packing athletic shoes for everyone at the parks, but my DD11 really wants to wear flip flops. I would never wear flip flops at WDW, because my legs and feet would be dead at the end of the day, but at her age, she could probably get away with it.

I'm wondering if there are rides you can't wear flip flops on because they could fall off or something? Does anybody know?

Seems like I rarely wear anything but flip flops to the parks and I have never had any problem.

If they have some support like Tevas Mush , than ok.But old navy flip flops offer no support and can wreck your feet

Not sure about the safety aspects with an 11 year old but I find flipflops really comfortable and wear them a lot at the parks. They're so much cooler than trainers.

I'm a Florida girl, so flip flops are what I usually wear almost every day. So, naturally, that's what I usually wear to the parks.

That being said, make sure your daughter tries out wearing just flip flops all day on a day when you are walking a lot. Maybe take a trip to a zoo or the mall and walk all day long. See how well she holds up. You can always take her athletic shoes as a backup!

I love my Teva flip-flops for the parks. They are really comfortable and they dry off fairly quickly. I never wear tennis-shoes at the parks unless its absolutely required.

No way would I wear or let my DD wear flip flops to walk in all day on cement. Yes being that young she could probably do it, but taking care of your feet from early on is essential, damage can be done early on in life.

There are options for other foot wear if she wants to be "summer-y" in her shoes. Crocs make a good sandle, or Tevas (I hear, I don't wear those).

Either way it is better to be comfortable and take care of your feet than be "stylish". ;)

I wouldn't wear them myself because my feet would be killing me after about 1/2 an hour:scared1: As for my kids who are 8 & 4 I think after awhile they would bother their feet. On our last trip DS4 did wear his crocs the entire trip, but DS8 wore sneakers (he's like me he need a good shoe to be comfortable). As for rides I know when we went on Soarin anyone with crocs and flip flops had to take them off. Other than that I don't know.

I see lots of folks wearing them at WDW and wonder how can they get around in them, but they do.

I always wear flip flops at DW each and every day of our usual 10 day trips. I wear them all the time at home also and am used to walking around NYC in them all day long, so it's not a problem for me there. If I wasn't used to doing a lot of walking in flip flops, I probably wouldn't wear them to DW.

I wear flip flops to WDW for 12+ hours a day - even the $1.99 Old Navy ones - never a problem for me. I just make sure it's a comfy pair that I've worn for long periods of time prior to going. I would never take a new pair to try out there for the 1st time!

I plan on wearing my flips while we're there. It's the only thing I wear in the summer, even when walking around the neighborhood. If that's what works for you, then go for it just take gym shoes just in case.

I'm 11 and I suggest that you do not let your DD wear flip flops around the parks. I would never do it. I have a lot of feet problems. WDW includes miles of walking, even if she doesn't have feet problems, her feet would be killing her at the end of the day.:sad2:

When at WDW I always where Trainers because they support your feet soo more much, I dont think I never wear Flip Flops.

try ordering FitFlops, they are suppose to provide alot of support and still give that flip flop feel. Just Google FitFlops. I plan on buying some for my wife and girls soon. Enjoy your trip

My DD has worn flip flops to WDW and was fine. I tried convincing her to wear sneakers but she insisted her flip flops were more comfy. She did fine the whole trip. Then proceeded to rub it in....ah teenagers...

I remeber I went in May, and it would rain everday, and since i'm 23 years young with a 2 year old daughter I could get away with it.
Unfortunately, it rained one day, and I came into a fancy Disney resturaunt sopping wet with water coming out of my flip flops every step.
I married my high school sweetheart who turned out to be a millionaire. So, if you have expensive flip flops, don't wear them to a fancy Dis Resturaunt, because they are overpriced junk. The ones at Old Navy are better.

DH and I wear Crocs flip-flops, because we can't stand to wear tennis shoes in the summer. They are VERY comfortable and supportive. Actually, much more comfortable then our tennis shoes would be, because they dry faster and keep our feet cooler.
