Took some flight prices today to flight centre to get them the price beat them. Was told they couldn't!!
Yet I'm not flying free as the lady I spoke to said they won't price beat that website which was sky scanner.
It appears to meet all the terms and conditions on the website like its an Austrian website and flights originate from aust etc. I have taken pics of quote and final prices etc and sent to customer relations to see why this is. I'm sure they will come back with some reason but has anyone ever had this before?

I'm guessing it's because they're not an Australian company with an ABN/ACN. They're a UK company that sells to Aussies, so technically it doesn't meet the Flight Centre terms and conditions.

Ah that could be it althought the reason I wasn't given by the girl I spoke too:) still can always dream about free flights lol
Would Expedia fall under that too though and they price march them?

Expedia are a registered company here in AU, a subsidiary of Expedia Inc. so they have to match that one :thumbsup2

They will probably beat your price by $1, as really that's all they have to do, as technically it is cheaper than what you found.
Good Luck with it .
:thumbsup2

Ok well maybe that's the reason then. Original reason I was given was because they might add extra fees etc when there weren't any extra fees in the prices I had so didn't think that reason made sense but thought I'd look into it a bit before saying anything to the travel agent lol.
That reason makes more sense atleast:)

Was told they couldn't beat that price at all and was told if I want those flights and prices then too book through sky scanner. I assume they may decide they can match it if they reply to my email of use the reasoning that its not an australian business will see:)

Hopefully you get a reply. I remember reading about someone on here getting free flights through them, so fingers crossed! :thumbsup2

Spoke to customer service relations today and sent through proof of flights prices etc so will see what happens:) the lady I spoke to was very nice though.
Sky scanner actually sends me to jetabroard to purchase the fares and they are a registered australian business so does meet conditions as far as I can see.
I did see that thread about someone getting free flights from them in here last year so yes that would be nice but I assume they will now decide they can beat the prices would be cheaper for them anyway lol!

I hope you end up with the free flights, or at least a substantial discount. Flight Centre shouldn't make people jump through hoops like this just for them to beat the price by $1.

Not sure why you'd want to book through Flight Centre - it just makes the airlines harder to deal with if you have an issue - but tell them you're going to call the ACCC and report them for misleading and deceptive conduct.

I'm not sure if it makes a difference, but DH can't always book flights he finds on SkyScanner. It's not an actual booking site. You'd have to click on the link and print out the quote from the website that you have to actually book through (eg orbitz, expedia etc).

I agree with Rebekkap though. If you've found a good price, I wouldn't bother using Flight Centre. Just makes things harder all round.

Booking with an online travel agent is just as bad as booking with flight centre when it comes to dealing with the airlines. They're always the middle man.
I tried to book seats with Virgin for our trip to Lax last year. I went back and forth between Webjet and Virgin and no-one wanted to help me. Kept on palming me off to the other.

The difference is, you can get some really amazing deals through the online agencies. I'm happy to deal with a third party when I'm getting a 3 night package to Singapore with Qantas and a nice hotel for $600. Flight Centre have yet to wow me with any of their offers. If it's not a significant saving, I agree it's better to go direct through the airline for the sake of convenience.

Spoke to customer relations yesterday and she said that she didn't think we would get free flights but that they do a discount or something due to the lack of service we received
Anyway she forwarded the info onto the senior management team and I got an email today saying we got free flights!!!!!
Can't believe it! They have booked it all for us now and we just paid a bit extra to add a stop over.
So Vegas and Fiji here we come next march:))

OMG that is so awesome! Well done! :worship:

I'm so happy for you!

I'm pleased to see Flight Centre honouring what they claim as I believe that was the right outcome. :thumbsup2

Are you going to treat yourselves to slightly nicer accommodation now that you've saved the thousands in airfares? :)

That's so exciting!! It's great to see they honour their promise though I do think it's silly that they just didn't honour it in the first place! Would have been cheaper for them!
For your sakes though, I'm glad they didn't!

Good on you. Maybe I should have gone a bit further last year when I showed them flights I had found. But at that stage I was very happy with what I paid.
You must be one of the lucky ones, because I found a report about this and Flight Centre stated, when asked how many people fly have flown for free. And their answer was "not many" , not many at all.
