For some reason, there aren't enough direct flights to Miami to keep the prices down. But for FLL, prices were hovering at around $500 for basic economy, so we went for it. Booked Econo fare with seat selection (we don't like playing seat selection bingo), and after factoring in companion fares plus WestJet dollars, I got our cost down to $415pp.
As an aside, I discovered that there isn't a cost for seat selection on domestic/US companion fares.
Excited for this cruise, and I haven't even gone on the January one yet!
