Trying to use flaxseed more. How do you incorporate it into your diet?

I tried these whole wheat pancakes and added 2 tbsp. ground flaxseed plus 2 tbsp. milk and they came out great! I also didn't have buttermilk so I just used skim milk and 1 tsp. vinegar. Make sure you use enough oil in the pan though, so they don't stick. http://www.food.com/recipe/whole-wheat-pancakes-47669

I love flaxseed & use it in everything. I buy the seeds & grind them & put them in everything I make. My boys can't tell its in there so they are eating healthier w/out knowing it :thumbsup2. My favorite is smoothies & putting the seeds in my salads.

I use ground flax quite a lot. I throw it in pretty much anything. My favorite is oatmeal with a little brown sugar, flax and some nuts like almonds. I put it in chili, spaghetti sauce, casseroles, sprinkle in pudding, on ice cream, really anything that has liquid. I also use chia seeds but not as much because it is harder to put in food. Especially when I don't want my husband to know I am putting it in.

I bought a ton and the only thing I have used it in is oatmeal. It was good, but I forget to put it in anything else.

thanks for posting!! How much do you put in spaghetti sauce? great idea!

I add it to the bread I make.

I've added it to waffles. I'm sure it would be great in muffins-if I remembered to add it.

I use it as a hair gel.

(seriously!)

This is the recipe I have used and it really does work!

Also, when you eat it, be sure it's ground. If it's not ground, you won't digest any of it- it'll go right on it's merry way....

I use the flaxseed (Nature's Bounty) every morning with my cereal. I think 1 1/2 tablespoons. Keeps me regulated ;) but the downside is very gassy. Someone suggested adding cinnamon. I did it for a while and then forgot. I should try again. (this is not the seed kind, looks like ground black pepper).

I also bought the flaxseed pills for the days when I don't do the ground one (three times a day with meals).

I want to buy the Flaxseed oil to see if it's better with the gas and easier to use.

I use the oil. You can't cook with it because it loses it's nutritional value, but I put it in smoothies, oatmeal, and any thing else that it can be stirred into. I think the recommended amount is about two tablespoons a day. I use the whole foods brand, other brands were too strong tasting. Not sure if i'm just used to it, but I barely taste it. I prefer this to the seeds because I know I'm getting a particular amount rather than just putting a few Tbs in a big batch of something. If you put it in smoothies, add it in after you pour into a glass .. I found some of the oil stuck to the blender otherwise.

okay, so how do you all grind the flax seed? :confused3 It's sold by my local grocery in the bulk food bin.

I use a small coffee grinder. Grind a little at a time and store it in a small airtight container. Keep the extra in the fridge so it stays fresh. :)

I always keep a container of ground flaxseed in the fridge and whenever I bake anything (brownies, choc chip cookies, banana bread etc.) I add 2 or 3 tablespoons just to add a little more nutrition.

I keep my ground flax seed in my freezer. At the recommendation of my dietician friend, I eat one teaspoon daily, stirred in my yogurt.
