Hey all,

Just been reading though one of my now many Disney books and I saw a restaurant in AK that caught my eye, called the Flame Tree BBQ.

Anyone have any opinions on this? Wether it's worth a visit etc? Also, are reservations needed for it? Sounds like a wonderful place to take a moment and relax!

Thanks...

It is great! It's a counter service, so no ressies. Great food: ribs, corn on the cobb, baked beans, and a fruit plated. Thats what we had. Lots of choice of seating around, open air and under cover, though no a/c. We always eat there when at AK.

We really like it and eat there every time we are at the AK

I wouldn't miss Flame Tree for the world. No ressies needed. Enjoy!

Flametree is amazing!

When we were there we sampled the BBQ chicken and the BBQ pork and were wowed by both of them. No reservations are needed as it's just a walkup stand with seating behind it. The seating area is off the beaten path and a great place to just relax. There were so many seagulls around that day but they were obviuosly tamed from so much human interaction. The beans and coleslaw were also amazing... we will not hesitate to stop by again at Animal Kingdom and I would recommend it to others! Not to be missed!

We love it! We get there nice and early, grab a plate and go all the way in the back of the restaurant to sit near the water. Here are some pics.

We were the first ones there when it opened and the girls got to do a little ceremony to open the kitchen. They had a blast yelling and clapping with the kitchen staff!

Here's a picture of the view you get near the water.

And the food's good too! :)

Thanks for the replies guys...sounds like it'll have to be one more stop added to the plans...looking forward to it already...even better that I don't have to book us places :)

We LOVE Flame Tree! I love the smoked chicken and DF loves the BBQ sandwich. :thumbsup2

It's my DH's favorite and he refuses to try anywhere else @ AK! :rotfl: I do like the bbq chicken salad and he always goes for the ribs/chicken meal... :thumbsup2

We love it!!!
It is a wonderful respite in the middle of a busy day...
The portions are huge! We always split meals there...

The friend pictured is an Ibis. They will slowly walk around the seating area. Pretty neat to see one fly. They are meat eaters so don't try to intice one with a fry or something. These guys make up their own mind and aren't like the ducks that will be all over as well. Those guys and gals are beggers.

But, please don't feed the Disney animals. Harmful to their natural diets.

Wait, you mean it was a bad idea for me to give him that big BBQ rib??? :scared1:

:rotfl2: j/k!

He was a beggar, though! We really enjoyed getting that up-close encounter with him, but it was also a tad bit scary. I know how hard my little cockatiel can bite, so I can only imagine the kind of damage that big guy can do.

It's very good as everyone has said...the only downside is that it has all outdoor seating, so if it is a hot muggy day you get no relief from the heat...and it's sort of hard to super enjoy hot beans and BBQ when I am miserable and hot! But the food is good enough that you sort of go into a zen like state...;)

Lots of Ducks too...they will come right up to your table and demand food immediately::yes:: ...one of the ducks plopped down on my foot. He didn't seem at all concerned that the foot was attached to somebody...he amused himself with picking at my flip flop strap. A little girl next to us threw some bread down and suddenly my foot was not the best place to hang out and he shook a tail feather and was gone:laughing: ...just another friendly Disney moment!

It was a great lunch, we were so tired and it was a nice shady place to eat. My dh had the ribs, ds had 1/2 chicken and I had pulled pork sandwich.

All came with beans and corn and we also got a side of fries, plus chocolate cake, frozen lemonade and carrot cake. DS had sprite, and dh & 1 had a Safari Amber beer!!

Good place to try!
