We leave tomorrow, this is the 1st time I will be driving without my husband!
Does anyone have any hints to the fastest way to WDW once we get to Orlando?:woohoo:

There is a new tollway from the Turnpike to Disney, before you get to Orlando itself I don't know the exit number, but the road number is 429. No traffic at all.

Get on the turnpike like you normally would, just South of Ocala. The new exit is a between US 27 exit and I-4.

Stay on the new road to exit 8, it will bring you in to Disney between Coronado Springs and AKL. It saves a lot of time.

We took this route also. It is (state road) SR-429. The exit says "Tampa" but when you get on 429 it's only 14 miles to the WDW arches and the road is completely deserted. I couldn't believe there was actually an "unknown" route to Disney! FYI....there are no shops, restaurants, etc. to speak of....just a few residential developments along the road. Make sure you are gassed up and have eaten lunch when you get on 429 cause the next stop is WDW!

The new road is State Road 429 and it is Exit 267 from the Turnpike. Follow it South to Exit 8 and that will take you onto the new "Western Way" on property. It ends at a "T" intersection, with Animal Kingdom (both Park and Lodge), All-Stars Resorts and Blizzard Beach to your right and everything else to your left.

It will totally bypass I-4, with all of its traffic. (Today the traffic reports were that I-4 from World Drive (just South of WDW) all the way to Central Florida PArkway (Sea World), a distance of about 8 miles, was so congested that drive time was estimated at over 30 minutes, and that is without any accidents.) Incidentally, it will also bypass both Universal and Sea World.

I believe that. Traffic has been crazy this Christmas. I'm looking forward to next week. Right now you are better off staying off the I-4 and taking surface streets.

429 opened the rest of the way and it ends at I-4 near milepost 61. I took that way today from my house to avoid the traffic on I-4 due to an accident close to the parks.

I wouldn't call them speed traps....the police are not hidden or anything like that. But I do feel the 429 has too many police cars patrolling it considering the lack of traffic. And there has been mention here on the boards of the Orange County Sheriff's Dept clocking motorists on Western Way.

We went to the Millenia Mall and surrounding shopping areas yesterday, which from my house pretty much requires a trip on the Tpke. We went there pretty early--we much have arrived around 10:00am and traffice was moderate but flowing. We actually stopped at Prime Outlets for about two hours first, and when we left there, traffic on I-4 westbound was stopped. Then as we were leaving the mall at about 7:00pm, traffic on I-4 eastbound was stopped. That road was created by satan himself to torment mortals.

Absolutely FHP is on the 429 and OCSD patrol Western Way. The speed limits are very clearly posted on both roads, and they will use radar and ticket you for speeding. Personally the way people drive around here, if it would just get them to slow down a bit, I'm all for it. We saw FOUR accidents yesterday, every one of them was "tourist on tourist" and two of the four were caused by speeding. If you are in an unfamiliar area, SLOW THE HECK DOWN! WDW isn't going anywhere. Everytime I see a tourist do something stupid to cause an accident, all I can think of is "Well, that's gonna ruin a vacation..."
