Five Guys Burgers & Fries

We're not so much into fast food here in the UK, and that which we are is usually not so unhealthy. Yes, we have McDonalds and Burger King, but I reckon that the majority of eating out restaurants revolve around Pizza Express (very nice food) or Beefeaters/Harvesters (traditional foods). Burger chains are certainly less prolific than they are in the USA.

I love Five Guys, but I only get it about once a year at most. I love the fries, with malt vinegar and salt. Reminds me of boardwalk fries we used to get up in Jersey when I was a kid.

We do not have In n Out or Steak and Shake. The nearest Smashburger is about an hour and a half away, and not in a place I ever really go to (Fairfax), so I won't be trying them any time soon. We do have Sonic (BARF!), Red Robin (just OK food and very overpriced), Johnny Rockets (meh burgers & didn't like the fries) and Fuddruckers (haven't been in ages, but the food was good but WAY overpriced).

We love Five Guys, but only eat it at the restaurant. I imagine that the food quality would suffer horribly by the time you got it home.

We LOVE Five Guys!! We eat there every saturday for lunch and it's always been great. I get the little burger with cheese, bacon, grilled onions and bbq sauce and the three of us split a small fry with salt and vinegar. Our food has always been fresh, hot and super yummy.

I really want one right now!

IMO, the burgers are way too bland; AFAICT there is no seasoning whatsover in the burger itself. (I'm prejudiced when it comes to burgers -- I like them extra-lean and with all of the good stuff cooked INSIDE them, and DH has that style down to a fine art; nothing I can get in a restaurant can touch one of his burgers for flavor, IMO.)

5G fries, otoh, are excellent with seasoning on them, though that seasoning isn't really Cajun -- it's closer to the style of Old Bay. We know a store mgr., who told us that it is actually McCormick "Cajun", which would explain it. (Louisiana-made "Cajun" seasoning never leaves the herbs that rough-cut, and there are no cloves in it, either, unless it is seafood boil, which is a different blend altogether, and not meant to be put directly on food.)

Every once in a while I calorie-splurge on an order of fries to share with my kids, but that's about it.

You are probably right.

last week my husband brought home burgers and fries from Jake's Wayback (simliar to 5 guys). We only live about 5 minutes away, but they steamed in the bag. The burgers were heavy and wet and the fries were soggy.

we learned our lesson...eat in only!

Finally got to try 5 Guys a couple of weeks ago and really enjoyed it! The lack of seasoning was what I enjoyed.....the burger didn't taste like it was loaded with sodium. Fries were fantastic and will definitely eat there again when shopping in Buffalo! :)

I don't consider them particularly overpriced. A small burger is plenty plus several people can share one order of fries.

For those who say the meals are huge, get the Little Cheeseburger, it's the perfect size. The first time we went I tried to eat the bigger one and couldn't finish it. lol Now I get the Little Cheeseburger, add some raw onions, mushrooms, BBQ sauce, pickles, lettuce and it's perfect! I love the Cajun fries, never tried them with vinegar but I'm going to next time. :) MUCH prefer 5 Guys over In & Out, ours isn't greasy, the staff is always friendly and it's clean. Love me some 5 Guys!

ETA that DBF and I share an order of fries, and if we all go the 4 of us share an order of fries. LOL The regular order, not the large. lol

We love Five Guys, and finally got one here last summer. I always order the little bacon cheeseburger, it's more than plenty. DH and I share fries and still have a ton left over and we share a drink or I get water. I saw that they are going to have a smaller order of fries coming soon. I like their fries most of the time, but we always end up throwing out more than half of them. We have eaten there about 3 times in the 9 months they have been open, I do prefer to make burgers at home.

We have Steak & Shake, which I think is disgusting, Red Robin was terrible and expensive, and Fuddruckers, which I don't like either, but DH does.

We love Five Guys. I usually just get the little cheeseburger, and DH the regular two patty version. DS likes their grilled cheese--says it tastes better than mom's.... :p

And the Cajun fries....:cheer2:
I like to grab ranch packets and bring them when I know we're going there, because the Cajun fries dipped in ranch are awesome! :hyper:

Steak n Shake is good, and I love the shakes...but the service is subpar. We've been to at least 5 different locations, and each had problems---not putting orders in, shakes coming out partially made, no refills, getting the food but no drinks, asking for sides of ranch or whatever and not getting it, not getting what we order, etc etc.

Smashburger is yum. But there aren't any here.

Dislike In n' Out. I hate that "sauce"--the first time we went, I didn't know, got a mouthful and gagged. I was pregnant with DS and I can't touch those burgers now. Same with salmon--had the flu, threw it up and now just the smell of salmon makes me gag. Too bad, 'cause I used to love salmon!

I just got back, and they did have the "little fries" now. We still shared the small fries, and next time we are going to try sharing the little, that they say serves one. That small is just soooooooooooooo big, and they are sooooooooooo good, so I always eat way too many.

I've only tried 5 Guys once, it was pretty good.

We don't have a Smashburger close, so I've never been there. A Steak-n-Shake opened up here a month or so ago and it's IMPOSSIBLE to hit it without a line out the door. We've tried 3 times and the parking lot is always packed with the drive thru backed up to the entrance. I love the patty melt there.

Our favorite place is locally owned called Stomps. Great burgers and onion rings. Burgers are between $4-5 and we usually share a double. Eating there with our 3 little kids is less than $25 and the kids get a free ice cream cup. LOVE IT.

Love 5 Guys! We always order Little Cheeseburgers and one order of fries for the whole family! Everything is hot and fresh... Definitely better than any other fast food chain!

This is what we've done too. I can't imagine eating a whole fry order, especially with a regular sized burger. We split one fries between 3 of us and get the little burgers. Have them every couple of months. It's our red meat meal of the week sometimes for a treat.

Big fan of 5 Guys bacon cheeseburger. The fries? Not so much. To me they always have a gritty feel (and taste) when I bite into them.

Now Smashburger, Smash fries? Amazing. Give me Smashburger fries and a 5 Guys bacon cheese.

HaHa I'm just the opposite.
While I do like Five Guys burgers, I always tell DH life would be perfect with a Smashburger (with cheese, spinach, mayo, ketchup ,mustard, tomato, pickles and a multi grain bun...so good!) and Five Guys fries.
