FITBIT? Has this been discussed?

That does sound off. I plan to use my pedometer with the fitbit to see if the results are similar.

I measured my cereal and milk the morning. My cereal bowl looks seriously skimpy. I usually eat only cereal, but about twice the amount. Now, I'll need to add something to it. Some kind of protein. Doesn't look like enough food!

When I started back on WW I measured out my cereal. I was eating way more then a serving! For me now, a serving of Cheerios is one cup. But I also add in a medium size cut up banana and about 1/4 cup of blueberries and only use half a cup of milk. Fills me right up. The fruit adds in the sweetness so no more sprinkling sugar over the top. :-)

Thanks for sharing that! I like Cherrios and a whole cup would be better. I like adding the fruit too. I'm putting that stuff on my list! :)

My FitBit has been acting weird. Last Saturday, I went up and down the stairs once in the morning and it recorded 10 flights. Hmmm. Thought it was an anomaly and let it go. Then yesterday, I went shopping early in the am like I do every Saturday. I went to 4 stores, walked up and down every aisle and parked in the rear of the lot. This normally nets me about 4,500 - 5,000 steps. Yesterday it gave me 2,500. Hmmm. So I go to make up the difference on the treadmill and it gives me 1,500 MORE steps than usual (I've figured out how many steps I get on average in 10 minutes at 3.5 speed) in the first 10 min. Ugh. I did buy the service plan so I might be getting a replacement.

If you bring up the fitbit connect screen, not the fitbit.com but the one that is separate in your programs, there is a trouble shoot button. It may be worth a try to see you find anything. I had a similar problem when I first got it and was told to download the software again and it has been fine since.

Okie dokie - I have a question....

First of all LOVE my Fitbit! Thanks to the OP for posting about it, I had never even heard about them. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it & I have only had mine for a couple of days.

I am really looking forward to going to WDW, obviously I love WDW, but I keep thinking about all of those steps! :goodvibes

Now my question - I just read that to sync your Fitbit you need to be somewhat close to your base station. I was only going to bring my iPad to WDW, not my laptop. Do I need to bring whatever my dongle is attached to to be able to sync?

Any ideas of alternatives. My laptop is really called a desktop replacement - it is not really portable. Should I look at getting an inexpensive small laptop? (Yes, syncing & getting all of those steps is worth it to me :rotfl2:). Would a net book work? What would be the cheapest (& small) option?

Thanks. :worship:

Oh & we usually go for just under 2 weeks, so I can't just wait till I get home :cloud9:

If you are going to buy something I would go with an ipod touch. Try to get a refurbished one for less $$. You don't even need the dongle then. I use my iphone and it automatically syncs when I open the fitbit ap. Now if you are looking to get a laptop anyway then my answer would be different.

Could you borrow an ipod or a laptop from someone?

Is your iPad able to sync with it? I understand only Gen 3 and above work. DD syncs hers with her iPad (but I can't since I have a Gen 1).

That is my question. I have an iPad. But it sounds like it will only sync if you are semi close to your dongle. There does not seem to be any place on my iPad to plug in my dongle :confused3 it is on my laptop.

So, are you saying I can be 3,000 miles away from my base station, or dongle & my Fitbit will still sync? :goodvibes

Actually, the FitBit uses the Bluetooth in your iPad to sync. I use my iPhone and sends my info to FitBit.com

So if you have a relatively new iPad, download the FitBit app and follow the instructions to sync :)

My iPad is new. But is sounds like from what I am reading it uses the Bluetooth from your dongle to sync. So 3,000 miles away would be too far.

I do use the Fitbit app & sync that way. I just don't think I can be REALLY FAR away from the dongle to do it.

Make sure the one you get is recent enough though. I have an IPOD Touch but it isn't recent enough to use with my Fitbit.

You don't need the dongle - there's Bluetooth in the FitBit and in your iPad. They talk without a dongle. Your iPad just needs an Internet connection to sync the data to FitBit.com. I've never even taken the dongle out of the box. :)

Why does the word dongle have to sound so dirty? :rotfl::rotfl:

Right?? I've worked in IT for years and I have never been able NOT to snicker whenever someone uses that word. :)

I'm glad you guys brought up syncing to the i-pad. I hadn't thought about travel. I just logged in to fitbit and my fitness pal on my i-pad with no problems. It's nice they are "talking". I'm connected! Yea! My i-pad isn't that new. I guess it's about a year old?

I believe the last 2 generations of iPad are compatible, along with the 4s and 5 iPhone. :)

I got lucky. My iphone is connected too. Now there is no excuse. Lots of tools. Must.see.progress.

REALLY? You just may have saved me several hundred $!!!! :cool1::thumbsup2:cool1::thumbsup2:cool1:

If you have never even taken it out of the box, then that sounds like proof positive I will be just fine without my computer :cool1:

Just made my day!

And yeah - the whoever came up with the word dongle should have come up with something better :lmao:

Just make sure that Bluetooth is on in your iPad settings and download the FitBit app. It will look for your tracker and you should be all set!

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU! :cool1:

I took the dongle out of my computer & put it in the box & sure enough, no problem at all with my Fitbit syncing to my iPad without it!

So happy!!! :thumbsup2
