I just ran across the fish extender threads and was wondering, do you find these on all the ships, specifically the Wonder to Alaska?

How do you know there are other FE people going and how many on the ship so you know how many "gifts" to take along? Are they always DIS'ers only who have FE's or do other non DIS'ers have them - is this exclusive of the DIS?

Where do you get them made? Ebay? Etsy? How about the personalized Disney CM looking door magnets?

Any other tips and advice????

What fun!

First thing is to go over to the Cruise Meets board and see if your sailing has a thread started.

If so, usually, at some point, someone will say "Lets do FEs". Someone will volunteer to maintain the FE list. And there will be some discussion as to "how many" "when to deliver" etc.

The concept may be DIS orginally, but there could be some groups who do there own.

You can make your own, buy it on ebay (I think) or other places. Or just use a clever sort of bag that you purchase.

For door magnets, you should check out the Creative DISigns board.

OhhOhhOhh! I'm a first time cruiser, and became borderline OBSESSED with the whole FE affair!!! So this is what I know :)

On DIS boards, Cruise Critic and passporter, you can 'find' your cruise (usually through date then ship and destination) and sign up for the FE on their main page.

We're 2 months out, but when we're 1 month and counting, our organizer said he'll 'close' it and we'll have a final count and know how many gifts to have and for whom (adults cruising solo, families and their kids' gender and age) for us, it's also been a great way to find out who we can make friends with in the oceaneer club!!!

grantsmom on ebay seems to be a fan favorite, I've checked out her stuff (I sew also) and frankly find her quality and creativity to be AMAZING and I can't believe she charges so little - I would charge at least $10-$15 more if I did them. I am loving doing my own FE and customizing it to our family, but if I were pressed for time I would ask her to do it for me!

search the threads here for ideas - from elaborate to cheap, from no sew FE's to ordering and more.

So glad you're 'on board' ha ha with the FE thing, it has been one of the most fun parts of getting ready for our cruise!!!

As for magnets, here's a DIS thread on door ears magnets and such :) http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2172891

Happy cruising!!!

You can also find some awesome FE's on Etsy.com! Definitely check out the DISigners section in the Just For Fun Forum! I have found so many magnet designs for our door there! They are all so helpful there! Have fun with it!:woohoo:

Yes this. I was a first time cruiser to DCL and to the cyber world really.lol So a friend told me about this site and so I came on to read. Since I was so new to the cyber world other than email. I had no clue what to do on here.lol I missed out on finding fellow cruisers, decorating our door, FE and pirate night. The second trip I got to do all those things and figured out how to meet up in the cruise meets.

Thank you all so much! And such quick replies too!

I checked out the lady on Ebay and others, great stuff! And will check out the links here too, thanks!!!!

I do have a Disney machine that hasn't been out of the box yet, does all the fancy schmancy embroidery, etc.

Mythical mom - Glad to hear there are others like me!!!
"Obsessed" LOL

Pixiedustmom- sorry you missed out first time. I would have too, had I had a life and didn't hang out here so much, haha.

Happy sailing to you all!

We are having trouble getting people signed up for our FE for our February 26, 2012 Dream cruise. Currently we have 6 families signed up but if we don't get a few more I'm afraid some will drop out and the whole thing will dissolve.
We have had lots of posts about it on our meet thread.

So, I guess I have a few questions. :confused3

1. How do we drum up business?
2. Have anyone ever done and FE with only 4 or 6 families?
3. Do other FE's pick up people closer to your cruise?

Any help or advise will be appreciated. Thanks!

I'll bet you'll get more interest and more people will sign up as your cruise gets a bit closer. But if not, here's my 2 cents: I think a FE with only a few families sounds fabulous. On our cruise next month we had around 20 rooms, and the organizer has divided us into 2 groups. Our group has 9 rooms, and for me that has made it manageable to keep track of the people and ages in each room and put together some nice stuff. If I had to deal with 30 rooms full of people, as I've seen in some exchanges, it would be a totally different kind of giving! Not bad, just different. It can definitely work with a small group.

I found a great over the door organizer that I want to make into my FE but it is 13" is that going to stick out into the hall too much? Does anyone know the depth of the wall on the Dream?

Ours was 8 inches wide on the fabric part, and our finnial from the hanger stuck out into the hallway. 13 is DEFINATLY too wide
