Fish Extenders for the Podcast Cruise

So I either have to enlist the help of a seamstress (is it still a seamstress if its a man?) or figure a "no sew" approach.

I can't even sew on a button. So we will be doing lots of gluing, taping and whatever probably to get our FEs put together! My mom can sew, so I guess I can put her to work on it. She already bought a ton of disney fabrics and found a fish extender type thing that is plastic we could use as a 'base'.

I can't wait to see how it goes Todd! you give me hope!

Kim, what kind of machine did you get? I have the Brother with the Disney characters and I love it. I am still a novice, but I love it.

I have the same machine. I have done regular sewing on it, but I haven't tried the embroidery yet. I am hoping to have embroidery on my FE. Only time will tell.

Oh good luck with the homestudy thing - is that like what Monica and Chandler had to do (when Joey wrote the recommednation letter )?

I wish I could get an embroidery machine, but as I'd prob only use it for my FE DH wouldn't appreciate it

And I'd love to get Disney fabric - I could spend hours in Joann Fabrics - you can't find it anywhere except over-priced on E-bay

I did a spreadsheet with my best guesses of gender. I used the list on page 1. Is that not the most current?

I'm a bit 'artsy-fartsy' but I haven't tackled this project yet.
I was thinking of using cotton duck cloth (it's in the back at Joann's) or even denim for for strength/stability. The other option is to iron on (the wrong side) interfacing if you are set on a certain fabric to give it more strength/stability,
A paper model is a great idea. I do that when I sew (making my own patterns)
I also like the iron on appliques, I've seen a few cute ones.
I'm not sure about using that hemming tape to attach the pockets but maybe it would work.

I am planning a night off of the computer tonight to see how far I can get with the fish extender. I am going to try to make a full size paper model of it. If it is a sucess I will post a photo in the morning.

I am not artsy-fartsy, so I was planning on cheating and going with iron on appliques.
I read some reviews for "Steam-to-Seam 2" no-sew hemming tape. Would this be a viable option for attaching the pockets?
How can I stiffen the fabric so it doesn't hang quite so limp, specifically for the pockets?
I'm sure I will have more issues arise later tonight, so I will write them down. It will all be clear as mud. Promise.

I spent the weekend working on my FE. I am not crafty! Remember it can be no wider than 8 inches. I had to chuck my first FE because it was too big! I wish I had one of those embroidery sewing machines but seeing as I can barely work the one I have, I think I should stick with the iron ons.

Woo Hoo!! When I was a camp counselor, I led Arts & Crafts..go figure! I am thinking of a pilgrimage to JoAnn's tomorrow evening. I will look into 'cotton duck cloth' (strangely reminds me of Tur-duck-en) and whatever 'interfacing' might be.

I just got finished with my paper model. It didn't take as long as I thought it would, but I also didn't decorate it. (I'm not giving away any secrets this early in the game.)

I'm not even sure hemming tape is the right term. But is there a double sided tape for fabric? Or am I better off to use TackyGlue or something of the sort? Do they make something to spiff up the edges? You might be able to see what I mean in the pics when I upload them.

The most recent list is on page 19. Gibson (the original poster) is very busy with school, so I help him out. Since I can't change his original post, I had to make a new one. He copies my list when he can to update page one. So again, the most recent list is on page 19.

We're on party deck 6 (6116)

2 adults, 1 girl (11) and 1 boy (9).

Ok- now to surf the net and get some ideas....

Well in the turmoil of the giveaway...I would like to post something kinda bright and cheerful. Any criticism (other than the color scheme) will be welcomed! {This is just a paper mock-up. The real one will be fabric and be decorated.}

Since I am not a seamstress nor a tailor, I am trying to look for alternative methods of attachment. The colored edges are meant to represent some sort of edge finisher...I know fabric can run at times. FrayStop works alright on my kilt, but I don't know about the FE.

I'm sorry, you must have mis-heard the party deck is #7. Deck 6 is just going to try to party and have a good time like the real party Deck 7....
