I have seen a lot of designs I would love to put on my door. Where can I find the magnetic paper that will go through my ink jet printer? I just got Photoshop for Christmas and plan on playing around to get some designs I like. But I do want to use the design A. Mickey made.

Office Max, Office Depot, Staples...they all have about the same selection. I have heard that Wal-Mart offers it as well. Not sure about that one, we don't usually shop there. I remember reading about some online stores that sell it as well, when I first started looking up door magnets on the DCL Board.

We were getting a "hard sell" from someone not usually at Doorway to Dreams. But fear not its 125 days until "Fun on a Boat!" (124 until the pre-cruise meet!)

I have heard of a few ways, depending on your level of expertise.

1. Print a pic or graphic out and put magnet tape on the back.
2. Put magnet tape on the back of a clear page protector sleeve, insert pic/artwork/etc.
3. Print pic/graphic out on magnetic paper.

I am sure there are some other ways, but these are what I have seen as popular choices while lurking on the DCL board.

So I started in earnest over the weekend to design the actual fish extender. Not the theme nor accouterments, the actual body. The plans I've drawn look like they are part of a Top Secret NASA project. How can I make a couple yards of fabric and some thread look so intimidating?
I think I have illusions of grandeur. The last thing I sewed was in middle school home ec class. I hope the people at Joann's are nice and will talk me through it!

Oh. And I am changing rooms again.

columnwest needed to share a room in order to go, so I stepped up. The more the merrier!
I'm not sure about his take on the Fish Extender. So I am not sure how to update the list with that info.


ETA: New stateroom is 7568. Still on Party Deck 7, just more centrally located.

They also sell magnetic sheets at the dollar store sometimes. It is basically a magnet that is sticky on one side. I have some, but I have not used it yet.

There is a pattern for the FE I found here on the DIS. I know I saved it somewhere so if I can find it I will post.

And there is the Xyron Machine. It can make stickers & magnets for you. It was on Martha Stewart. It'd be a neat contraption to have, but a new camera cuts in front of a sticker/magnet machine.

I found a FE sewing design on a FE thread from the cruise board, printed out the instructions. Then I realized I had no clue what I was doing. So I either have to enlist the help of a seamstress (is it still a seamstress if its a man?) or figure a "no sew" approach.

Todd, I am not a seamstress as my main profession, but it is a hobby. What kind of help do you need? I haven't started my yet. Now that the holidays are over, I need to start getting things together. I need to make a pirate costume for my step mother and our fish extender. And play with my new embroidery sewing machine.

I am planning a night off of the computer tonight to see how far I can get with the fish extender. I am going to try to make a full size paper model of it. If it is a sucess I will post a photo in the morning.

I am not artsy-fartsy, so I was planning on cheating and going with iron on appliques.
I read some reviews for "Steam-to-Seam 2" no-sew hemming tape. Would this be a viable option for attaching the pockets?
How can I stiffen the fabric so it doesn't hang quite so limp, specifically for the pockets?
I'm sure I will have more issues arise later tonight, so I will write them down. It will all be clear as mud. Promise.

Kim, what kind of machine did you get? I have the Brother with the Disney characters and I love it. I am still a novice, but I love it.

I know Lois was keeping a chart for ages, it wouldn't surprise me to find she had one for gender as well.
