Fish extender tips, tricks and pics

I'm sure you won't have hundreds of participants though. If a group had that many folks sign up, I would hope that they would come up with a way to divide and conquer. Some threads only have a few cabins participating, others have many.

Yep, for the WB Panama our group was so large (and we'd DISed together for so long) that we had FE TEAMS!

A batch of DISers got together, picked a day out of the 14 and all pitched in for a team gift. We had one team handle the silicone wrist bands and one team handled laynards (as those had to be signed up for with names and sizes etc). The remaing team gifts were all surprises, though one DISer kept the master list so no gift was duplicated. My team did a dry erase board with our DIS logo another did a mouse pad with our dates, ports of call etc. (These are just two examples of some great swag!) Also some people would drop off a little something in their BFFs FEs too.

Oh Jackie... can you IMAGINE what it would have been like if all 120+ cabins had done individual FE gifts???? I'd STILL be eatin the candy!!!

I always wondered about 'fish extenders'. :confused3 But I'm mighty jealous of all your fun gifts. What a great dis-idea! :)

Those who are going for Christmas there are holiday fish extenders already made at Christmas Tree Shops! They are only 3.99 and would work in a pinch too. .they have 3 pockets just an fyi! :santa:

Tammy - where did you say you saw these? We are on the Christmas cruise so I would love to find something so I don't have to sew!

Another tip I thought of, when making your F/E putting a dowel or some kind of weight at the bottom really helps it to hang well. I saw some of the most creative options though. One of them was 3 potholders that were put together upside down - it was adorable!!! Loved that idea!

I saw that one and thought it was awesome too..

someone else on our cruise had a big pirate flag as the f/e but cant remember the room number now? it was great too.. Took me a few moments to figure out where to insert the stuff LOL

Sorry hinsok1 I just looked up and they don't have the Christmas Tree Shops in your area.. if you are located in the northeast should have looked at that first... good luck!

I actually saw someone using a stocking in September so I guess you really could do this anytime - after all it is Disney!

So my DW and I have a question for y'all...

How does the FE exchange work? Does every DIS stateroom give something to every other DIS stateroom over the course of 3-4 days, or do you have certain folks assigned to you?

The reason we ask is that we're already going little gifts every day for the stateroom host/hostess and a end-of-cruise gift for the server team, so if we also have to turn around and make a couple hundred gifts for DIS'ers that could be alot of stuff we have to get to the ship!! :lmao:

Definitely check your thread, but honestly you can do it as small or as large as you want. Some folks on our cruise gave smaller gifts like little round magnets, stickers or candy and some really put together amazing handmade gifts. All were appreciated - it is so worth it to participate in - even if you can only do something small. I think our cruise had over 50 people participating and we had some who did all cabins, some only did half - it worked out fine.

Oh yes, I saw that one - at first I was looking under it for their F/E :lmao:

This is what I made for our upcoming cruise...

I think we will have to cruise a few more times now to get good use out of it!

I'm trying to put together my wreath...I have a question....how did you do it? Do you glue the Mickey's down to circle (if so what did you use...it had to be something light) or I thought maybe they were glued one by one on top of each other? And, then it looks like the whole thing was laminated? Also, I think I counted about 11 or 12 Mickeys of each of the 3 shades of green? Is that correct? Thanks for your help!:goodvibes

Did you use the Home Depot Mickey heads or did you use a die cut machine?

just wondering ...

Good Question!:confused3 I went and got HD ones...and now have those arranged...but, looking back at the picture..SILLYANDI's look bigger than mine...It was so easy to use the HD ones...I too thought about cutting out 30something of heads...but, decided HD would be much quicker...I should probably find out the size of the "porthole" ...to make sure the wreath will be the right size.

I believe it is like 7 1/2 inches across or so... ;)

How is the wreath made? Is it made from magnetic paper or just paper taped together? I would love to make this for our upcoming cruise this christmas

I was going back through my F/E gifts and thought I would mention a pretty neat idea. One of the folks on our cruise gave everyone a post card before Castaway Cay day PLUS they put one in their with their address and a stamp - this way when you get home or from Castaway you can send them a postcard - what a neat thing to receive to extend the fun!

Hi, this is your friends from that cruise..aka next door neighbors. I finally found the sight and got signed up.

Sorry I haven't been checking in here... I used the Home Depot mickey heads- I used all 3 of the green colors they had. I think I used 10-12 each color.

I peeled them off the backing then ran them through my xyron machine (it's a scrapbooking tool that makes a sticker out of anything). I used a dinner plate as my center then placed the mickey heads down in layers, overlapping as I went. I pulled the whole thing off the plate and laminated it. I cut the "berries" using a scrapbooking punch.

Thanks for getting back to us! Xyron machine...never heard of that..but, how neat! I went to HD and got about 11 of each green Mickey head...peeled them off..and began glueing..however, I need a couple more of each color...it looks like I've somehow made it fuller? I discovered the plate as the center after getting it 1/2 glued around when I realized I was getting a little off track....It's a great idea....and, I can't wait to get back to it after another trip to HD! :goodvibes

About 120 cabins DID individual FE gifts on the Sept 1st 5 night double dip! It was the most amazing thing! Our swag filled a huge sandpail full to the top and brimming over - It was a lot of work but it was also SO MUCH FUN!

I made hand made gifts, as did quite a few others - don't know about them, but I spent about 40-50 hours on them in the months before the cruise. Then, it took us about 3 hours to deliver them all, but even that was fun. I felt like Santa Claus making the rounds, :rotfl:

Mine curved a little on the left side too, gives it character!;)
