Hi, I apologize if this was asked before but I'm new to the board :earsboy: I am going to Disney in October with my boyfriend. I've been a bunch of times but he never has and he's really looking forward to the fish & chips at the Rose& Crown Pub. You see, he is American but his mom is from the UK and he used to visit there every summer until recently. He wants old-fashioned fish and chips and can't seem to find them in the states. We go to a supposedly British restaurant and he sees fish and chips on the menu, gets all excited and then is disappointed because they bring him French fries. I've never tasted the "real thing" so I can't help him. (We even tried making them -- no luck and my house smelled for a week) Anyway, will he be disappointed at the Rose & Crown? I'd like to prepare him before if that's the case

THANKS for your help!!!!! :goodvibes

Hi chrismb22

Welcome to the DIS!!!

None of the food at Epcot is really authentic in my opinion, but the Fish & Chips aren't too bad. I prefer to get them from the stand, instead of the restaurant. The food seems to be hotter and crispier from the stand. They aren't as good as what you'd get at a great chip shop across the pond, but they'll do.

I agree that the ones outside are better! Last time I had them at R&C, they were underdone and the batter was disgustingly soggy. Outside has always been good, but not quite the same as that little place in London that wraps it in a newspaper cone... ;)

I've never had bad Fish & Chips at R&C. DH and I usually grab them at the outside stand and eat on the patio.

If you want really good fish and chips, go to the Yacht Club Galley. The fish was very fresh and the batter light and crispy. We went there for lunch on our last visit and will certainly be returning.I am a fish lover and IMO this was miles better than the Rose and Crown. In fact it was the best lunch we had anywhere on Disney property.

Personally, I think the F&C at R&C are awesome, I never go through EPCOT without a basket.

outside it is served that way with the paper-does it taste the same not really
and you cant get the mushy peas.

Hi
Never tasted the Chish & Fips (as me and DH call them) as I know they won't taste like home.

Best way to make real chips is to get your fat really hot in a deep pan that ideally has a basket with it, at home we call them chip pans.
Peel your potatoes, wash them, dry them and cut them into thick fingers (at least 1.5cm thick). Then put them into the basket and lower them into the fat. Give them a quick go for about a minute, lift the basket and wait another minute and then put them back in until they start to turn brown - yummy!!!

Your house will stink as will you so you will need to make sure to open all your windows.

Hope you find some good chish and fips

LOL! Love it!

Just wanted to add, we had delicious fish and chips at the Mara, the food court at AKL. The fries were what we call steak fries, thicker, and I think the skins were on them!

Thanks everyone!! I can't wait!!!!!!!! I think I am driving him crazy with all my Disney talk. LOL

I too experienced superior fish and chips at the outdoor stand next door to R&C. I had the same soggy experience with fish and chips inside at R&C as a previous poster.
