My daughter was trying to get something out of her nose and when I flipped her over to check what was up, she had a candy wrapper ball in there  .
What should I do IF I wasn't able to get it out?
I knew that this would happen one day-DD is now 26 months old.

You would have to go to the doctor/clinic/emergency room if you couldn't remove the foreign object. It sounds funny to have a child stuff something up their nose, but it can be serious. I speak from experience, my son (then 6), shoved a pebble up his nose. I had to take him to the emergency clinic, and it took the doctor a long time to fish it out.

I have pulled out beads, Lite-Bright pegs, Polly Pockets and other things from kids' noses.

My favorite instrument was a pair of alligator forceps.

Yeah - what FayeW said.

This is something we missed out on with DD (with her everything went into the mouth  ) but DS caused us to spend a long night in the ER.

When he was about 2, he was into his spiderman phase. One night he couldn't sleep & got up to get something to eat from the refrigerator. (a side by side) I had a magnet all the way up at the top with 2 wiggly eyes on it. DS decided to "play spiderman" & shimmied to the top without benefit of furniture.

I was woken up to a tap on the shoulder & the words "Hey Mommy, my nose is looking at you."
:earseek:

LOL, ok hopefully my daughter won't do that to me.

Thanks for all the stories and suggestions. It's nice to hear other incidents of what children did put up their noses so that I can watch over my daughter with those items. I know that things do still happen although you are careful-like today.

My guy was playdough - luckily (?!) he thought it was hilarious to "snort" his nose and shoot the playdough out. You never read this in the Guidebooks!!

Tic Tacs.....my DS loves Tic Tacs and one day I gave him a handful of green ones. For some reason he comes over to me and is pointing at his nose....then I seen the green residue on the bottom of his nose and about fainted. Luckily it wasn't up there to far and I was able to squeeze it out. He is well supervised with Tic Tacs.

I have tic-tacs in my purse alot, so will remember that one with my daughter.

*sheepishly remembers my days as a kid, putting a pebble up my nose*... fortunately it was only so far that I could still blow it out!

apparently as a child I put a "game" up my nose (what I called it - it was a Bingo token)

spouse put a dime in his mouth as a kid that ended up in his nose - doc had to remove it

Isn't that the truth!?

My older two never ever put things in thier noses. I am pretty darn sure it never even occurred to them. This youngest one went through a phase of being obsessed with this idea! You name it--crayons, peas, mac and cheese, small toys (hard to keep all the little things out of reach in the entire house when you have a 6 yo sister obsessed with crafts.) Man, I thought he would never get out of that phase. And it was stuff you would never think would be a problem. Mac and cheese??Who puts mac and cheese in their nose?? He went through an ear phase too, but not as bad as the nose.

I think my son was 4 years old when he shoved a half peanut up his nose. We had to take him to the ER. The doc took a paper clip, manipulated it and within 3 seconds, had the peanut out. Son never put anything else in his nose. He said it was painful (the peanut).

My brother did a better job when he was little. he shoved foam rubber up his nose. Mom noticed one day that he smelled. She gave him a bath and everything and smell still there....lol. Few days later he had a nasty runny nose. Took him to the doc and the foam rubber was discovered. Mom said when they pulled the foam rubber out, the smell gagged both mom, the doc and the nurse. :crazy2: Doc told mom he had seen everything.....including a sprouted pea.

LOL, yuck.

Hijacking your thread, mommytotwo, to say that I *shudder* at your countdown, and that Christmas is only 38 days away!

Sorry it's just a little over a month away KatelynnsAuntie.
But I just love Christmas.

My DD was eating preztel sticks and put one up her nose. Freaked me out. After I calmed down I was able to remove it myself.

My sister did this too.

Last Wednesday DDs daycare called. She had put a rock in her ear, and it was wedged in so tight they couldn't get it out. No small rock! Called the peds office, we were lucky they could see her or it would have been off to Urgent Care of ER. Some manipulation with a crochet hook looking thing and out it spring! She talked for the next 4 hours straight she was so amped up. We had a long talk that evening about putting NOTHING in our ears or nose, and only food in our mouth. We equated it with the time she touched a cactus - that was a year ago and she still vividly remembers doing it and me using tape to try and pull the needles out.
