My wife and I just got back from our first WDW trip without kids. Let me tell you, an entire new world just opened up for us! We were slightly worried that WDW would not be as magical without our kids, but that was not the case at all. It was fantastic!
Our daughters are 20 and 18 years old and in college, so my wife and I decided to head down for a long weekend to enjoy Food and Wine…we had never done F&W due to our daughter’s school schedules though high school. We headed down early Thursday morning and came home Sunday morning. Overall, we had a great time! We moved at a slower pace and just enjoyed a few days at the parks. We stayed at our home resort, Beach Club. This may have actually been the smoothest WDW trip experience ever…everything kept falling in place. Below is a quick recap:
- Thursday: up early to catch a 7:00AM flight. The good news is that Southwest airlines recently resumed direct flights from Albany, NY to MCO. The flight was smooth and we landed a little early. Since it was just my wife and I for three days, all we packed were two carry-ons…we have always wanted to do that for a Disney trip. It was amazing! We were seated towards the front of the plane, so we were one of the first ones off and walked directly to meet our driver who was waiting for us outside of baggage claim…no need to wait for our bags this time around. From the time we got off the plane, it was a total of 10 minutes until we were in the car and on our way. Off we go to Beach Club!
When we landed, my wife put in a mobile order for the Publix that is on the way to WDW…a case of water, a few snacks, and a 12 pack of beer. All of the essentials! When we got to Publix, our order was ready and the person brought it out to the car within two minutes of our arrival. We arrived at Beach Club at roughly 10:30am, which is impressive considering our flight touched down at roughly 9:50am and we stopped at a Publix on the way. We assumed our room would not be ready yet, but five minutes after checking in we received the text that our room was ready! See what I mean regarding how smooth this trip was going?!
We brought our things to our room and then headed out to Epcot to experience the reason for the trip…Food and Wine! We hit several of the food booths for lunch and it was all delicious. We rode Guardians (we had a lightning lane) and then left Epcot at around 3:00pm to head to MK. We had tickets for Not So Scary Halloween Party, which we were looking forward to. It was a lot of fun and we rode every ride we wanted to ride…Tiana‘s, Pirates, Big Thunder, Haunted Mansion, and Tron. We ate at Skipper Canteen and we thought it was just OK. We watch the parade, fireworks, and the Hocus Pocus show. We left around midnight and called it a night.
- Friday: we slept in a little and started our day at HS. It was a great day and we hit all the rides we wanted to ride…Tower of Terror, Aerosmith, Runaway Railroad, and several others. We had a few beers and snacks in HS, then headed to Beach Club for a pool break…it was hot! After two hours in the pool, we changed and headed over to Epcot for another round of Guardians and food booths. We just strolled around World Showcase for a while enjoying F&W. We had a Space 220 reservation at 8:15, and we really enjoyed it! The food and drinks there were fantastic. We left Space 220 around 10:15pm and decided to call it a night.
- Saturday: we started our day at AK and it was a smooth/quick morning. We hit Safari, Everest, and Flight of Passage all before 11:30am! We had lunch at Satuli and headed out around 12:30pm. We then spent 4 hours by the pool and it was fantastic. At roughly 5:00pm we walked over to Cake Bake Shop to check it out. WAAAAYYY overpriced. We got a slice of cake and two frozays and it cost $111. The cake was just ok…not worth the $25 for one slice though. At least we can say we tried it, but it will be our last time. For dinner we classed it up by having corn dogs at the boardwalk, followed by a couple cocktails at Abracadabar. We then walked over to Epcot to watch the fireworks before calling it a night. We headed back to the room to pack
- Sunday: up early to catch our 7:30am flight home. Bye WDW
.
It was a great trip and my wife and I are so excited that we loved WDW without kids. We only had to worry about ourselves, which was both weird and GREAT at the same time. Our next trip is a weeklong BCV/GF split stay in January, but that trip will be WITH both daughters. We can’t wait because we obviously love experiencing WDW with the entire family.
