First Timer Staying at Old Key West

I really like OKW. However, I am not a fan of Olivia's. We have dined there twice; both were terrible experiences.

First Visit
On our first visit, we were a party of six, staying in a 2BR at OKW. We were seated on time; that's the only positive thing I can say. Our server did not come to the table for well over 20 minutes. When he finally stopped by, he said he would be right back to get our drink orders. It was ten minutes later when he returned. So, 30 minutes in and we still did not have drinks.

He returned with our drinks, but didn't bring bread. Every other table had bread. Not us.

One member of our party had numerous dietary restrictions. The server said that the chef would be right out. You guessed it: 20 minutes longer to see the chef. We ordered after the chef left the table.

It took another 40 minutes to get our food. We finally asked for bread. The server never refilled drinks.

Oh, the server was also sweating profusely and reeked of body odor. Yuck!

We originally planned to order desert, but I couldn't stomach the thought of ordering something else. I spoke with the manager. He apologized and gave us each three FastPasses to use the next day.

Second (Likely Last) Visit
On our departure day in November 2019, my wife and I had some time to kill. We decided to give Olivia's a try since we were at OKW and a reservation was available.

When we were seated, our very nice server informed us that some of the kitchen equipment was causing the circuits to trip or setting off the fire alarm. As a result, the deep fryers, oven, and grill were not being used. We had our choice of salads or cold sandwiches.

It was OK, but we couldn't try some of the more popular menu items.

We won't be back.
It sounds like two pretty bad experiences.

Do you feel that if you go again that something equally bad will happen? To me, it just seems like really bad luck but it isn't really Olivia's MO to have terrible waiters and regular power failures.

I may give it a try the next time we stay at OKW. I certainly would not make a special trip just to dine at Olivia's after my prior two experiences.

Olivia's usually gets rave reviews. Perhaps I just have bad luck.

We recently came back from Building 54. Great location for us. Close to the second bus stop (South Point), right across from one of the leisure pools, but not on the main road, so it was very peaceful. Great golf course view-right across from the women's tee for the Third hole of LBV golf course. However, if you want to use the main pool, it was a very long walk.

We were in 53. Out of the way location but right behind the bus stop so I heard the beeping as they raised and lowered their steps from 7 AM past midnight. We drove everywhere, including the one day we spent time at the main pool.

OKW was great for parking right outside our door. Without a car, Ive seen people talk about using the buses to get around the resort. Maybe someone with more experience can chime in?

1BR is humungous! :)

You can get on any bus to get around OKW. We stayed there last week for the first time; Old Turtle Pond bus stop 50 feet away. We really like the resort, if you want to go to Hospitality house area any bus will get you there it's the last stop. Going back, walk over the bridge grab any bus and it will drop you back to your area.

We've owned OKW since 1996 and still love it! Our favorite area (it's set up like neighborhoods) is Turtle Pond for the gorgeous quiet pool. There is a seasonal snack bar and grills you can use. There is a bus stop, however a rental car is best as you can park in front of your villa. It is best to have snacks and drinks available in your villa as it is a bit of a hassle to drive/bus to Conch Flats store. You can buy a case of bottled water there, just ask.

The Hospitality House area is best if you use a bus to get around. Conch Flats store and Olivia's is there too along with the theme pool.

Enjoy!
Thank you!

It's a more "Kid free" resort which is great for empty nesters.

That has not been my experience.

Without a car, Ive seen people talk about using the buses to get around the resort.

When it's just me and my cousin we tend to just walk from place to place. But then we're usually there for rundisney events and need to stretch our muscles rather than stand in the heat waiting for a bus.

I definitely wouldn't consider OKW to be a more "Kid Free" resort. I've owned since 1996 and there have always been lots of multi-generational family groups there. Of course this is true of all Disney resorts but I've always seen lots of infants, toddlers, kids, teens & young adults at OKW.
