hello everyone!
i can't believe the end of summer is here already and that school starts next week. but the good thing is my first DVC trip is in less than one month!! i can't believe it  i'll be staying at the BCV and am looking forward to it. but i just had a few questions. since so many of you were big parts of me buying into DVC, i figured i would come to the best :goodvibes

1. any advice or strategies i may need for checking in at bcv or to work the best with the CMs?

2. how do you over ride the AC? i rem reading it a long time ago, but will need to write it down this time

3. has anyone boarded their dog at a nearby overnight kennel? the on site ones look ok, but we don't want to have to worry about walking the dog, etc. also, want a pen with more room indoor/outdoor

4. i requested a non-smoking room for my asthma. do i have a decent chance of getting this? :confused3

5. my mom is a stroke survivor, can't walk well. anyone had any luck with local ECV or wheelchair rental places? i have a couple of numbers, but thought i'd ask for a "reference"

6. garden grocer or wegoshop? pros and cons?

7. any other bit of advice would be very much appreciated :)

8. am i there yet? am i there yet? :Pinkbounc

i know that's a lot, but i figured any little bit will help. i'm sure i'll come up with a 100 more before i leave, lol. :woohoo: i can't wait to go, i'm hoping the storms stay away (and even big crowds, lol) :grouphug: maybe i'll see some other DISers out there! thanks in advance for any help

My DMom didn't need a wheelchair all of the time, but we were happy to find out that if we rented one $10 at AK, we didn't have to pay for one at MK if we went there that same day. She especially enjoyed watching Wishes seated in the wheelchair!

We've had 4 check ins at BCV, DM has had 1 and we've always gotten a non-smoking room there as we've requested.

My DUncle lives in Gardens of Pleasant Plains, I think that's by Jackson NJ, and we're heading for Cape May this weekend, just saying  hi from someone who really really likes NJ!

Enjoy your vacation.

1. I have never had any problems with CM's, however we always approach them with a big smile and usually have a short conversation before getting down to business.

4. Check in as EARLY as possible. While this doesn't guarantee that there won't be a problem it will give you and the BCV time to resolve that problem. Also, have you thought about changing your reservation to say non-smoking for medical reasons. If your asthma is severe this may be something you want to think about doing.

6. We have only used Wegoshop and I would highly recommend them.

7. Remember to take your time when you get there and take it all in. As a DVC member you will have plenty of time to do it all so don't try to fit it ALL in on this trip.

Also, if there is a day were it is overcast and just barely sprinkling. Go to Storm Along Bay on that day. My sister and I were fortunate enough to have just such a day back in May and we practically had the pool to ourselves. At anyone time of the day there were no more than 10 people in the whole pool.

8. I can promise you it will be here before you know it especially with school starting.

I hope you have a very magical first trip to the BCV. princess:

If you come to the disABILITIES Board and look at the disABILITIES FAQs thread near the top of the board, you will find one section about the ways to get wheelchairs and ECVs; everything from renting at the parks to the off-site companies.
The off-iste companies that are listed there are ones that DIS posters have reported using a lot and have good experience with them. We rented an ECV from Randy's in March, but other posters have reported good experiences with all the others that are listed in that thread.

thank you so much for all of your help! i really appreciate it! :goodvibes

dallas - i really agree with how you said i need to take time to take it all in. i've been to disney so many times and am like a crazy mad woman running around bc i don't want to miss a thing. i end up coming home like a wet noodle. i'm hoping that as a dvc member, i'll slow the pace, take time to see shows, actually look in the stores, check out the amazing landscaping i see in the dvc pic thread. i think it will be such a different experience this time around. esp staying on site and not having to deal with the parking lots, traffic going in/out, etc. great advice! i did request the non-smoking for medical reasons, i hope it comes through. i'll have my inhalers just in case. just don't want to get bronchitis after i get back, lol! :smokin:

bobbi - thanks also. enjoy your trip to cape may! i hope you had some escape from the crazy rain! :sunny:

thanks suem! i did go to those boards and they were so helpful. my dad called yesterday and reserved an ECV for my mom. i hope she doesn't run anyone over. :moped: my dad almost cut my feet off at the ankles pushing her in the wheelchair over xmas, lol. i just want them to have a great time, and seeing him push her for 10 hours straight was not fun!

thanks again everyone for your advice. i'm really getting so excited. all of the bad BCV stuff i've been hearing has been making me nervous... i'll just bring some cleaner with us i guess :confused3

take care and if i think of anything else, i know where to come!! :Pinkbounc
