First Stimulus, Now "Deficit Reduction".

It was helping but it wasn't enough. The dems took control in '06 There wasn't much that he could get done. This doesn't answer my queston. And, It doesn't mean Bo's plan isn't a ****?

I obviously don't think that Obama will create jobs. I also don't have a party affiliation, and I think the Dem vs. republican nonsense is doing more harm than good, but that's another story.

I honestly don't know how to answer your original question. I still don't think it's "our" money, these aren't communistic principles. I agree that the Robin Hood principle does not help matters, but if I had to take an optimistic approach, then possibly the lower middle class will come out of foreclosure, pay their bank debts and spur the financial and house sectors again. But that is a reach considering banks are still passing out credit cards like candy.

If government doesn't creat jobs, what exactly are the thousands of state and federal employees that say they go to work everyday doing then? Isn't/Wasn't your husband a doctor in the miliary? If he isn't/wasn't employed by the government, then who paid him?

Government takes money from one person and puts it in the pocket of another person. It is a zero sum game. We need state and federal employees, but we need just enough to get the job done. We do not need an over abundance of them. We need a military. We need a military to defend and protect the interests of the United States. We need physicians in the military, as DH is (Army Reserves) but it isn't our sole source of income by any means. If you are going to deploy soldiers, or keep them state side, they need to be cared for. It is private industry/business that creates the wealth in this country. They do not tax people in their areas to meet their payroll. Surely you can see the difference.

I never said that the private sector doesn't create the wealth. But in the sentence I quoted, you said that the government does not create jobs, and that is flat out wrong. When you take the military into consideration, the federal government is probably the largest employer this country has.

He attempted to take back his 'redistribution of wealth" statement that he made to Joe the Plumber, but Joe the Plumber got it right. He denied it after he said it. I don't care if he "works so hard" that he is working 24 hours a day. If he is working to destroy the country and create a socialist "utopia", I will do my best as the loyal opposition to speak out against it. I will support every conservative candidate that choses to run against the political elite who LOVE taxes because they don't chose to pay them. I paid my mortgage. I don't want to pay anyone elses mortgage. This guy has got one big chip on his shoulder against anyone who ever worked hard for a living and succeeded. He doesn't want "equal opportunity", he wants "equal outcome". The only way to do that is to spread the misery around. Shockingly, I believe Putin recently warned him against socialism. He said it doesn't work!

I agree with every single word of this. :headache:
I'm so upside down with all this that I have no blood left in my feet..Good grief Charlie Brown...I need a hug

First he was going to create 3.2 million new jobs...yup that was the plan....than a couple days ago it was changed to ...WEll we will either create 3.2 million jobs or SAVE 3.2 million jobs :confused3 guess they decided to play it safe...

DH said that he will no longer work to make over $250,000 because he refuses to spread the wealth the way he wants to. We have no problem spreading it to disabled, Charities, Elderly and such. But giving to illegals or those that get rewarded for not working and getting money anyway does not cut it.

So we will make less...so much for reaching for the stars...

Also it's not the people that are making 25 million a movie(as many actors do) that this will hurt...it is the small businesses that will be paying the price.

Even my kids that are 12 and 15 dont get the logic behind it.
We're looking at downsizing our business for this very reason. We will certainly do a cost/benefit analysis to see if it is worth it for my husband to work to pay the increase in taxes (I wouldn't be surprised if Obama decides that the upper tax bracket needs to go higher than 39% :headache:). If it isn't, we'll downsize.

We'll definitely be decreasing our charitable contributions if our taxes are raised. I'd much rather be supporting charities that actually do good in the world than give it to the government to squander, but it seems that many people prefer it that way. :sad1:

Today's headline--

POLITICIAN KEEPS CAMPAIGN PROMISE
THOSE WHO VOTED AGAINST HIM DON'T LIKE IT

BTW, the government funds a lot of basic research that ends up making a lot of money (and creating a lot of jobs) in the private sector. Al Gore didn't invent the internet (nor did he claim to), but the government paid for its invention.

Liberals hate acheivement and love to take money from those who do.
They then give it to those who choose to be lazy non producers.
Socialism has NEVER worked.
Im telling you all, this stimulus and a few other things will be Obamas downfall.
Jimmy Carter all over again.
Mark my words, he wont be re elected.
Just let him do what he wants, it will fail.

You are 100% correct and hopefully Bobby Jindal will be there in four years to pick up the pieces.

Oh my. The military and ALL OTHER GOVERNMENT EMPLOYEES are funded through the tax dollars paid to the federal treasury from the PRIVATE SECTOR. People go to work in those businesses that so many on the left despise, they pay taxes, and the federal government is enriched by the fruits of THEIR labors. People earn money in the private sector, they save and invest, and the federal government is enriched by the fruits of THEIR personal savings and investment. The private sector invents, creates, hires, trains, purchases, invests — and provides ALL goods and services upon which we rely to live our lives — and the federal government comes in and TAKES a piece of the pie for no effort of its own. When government workers pay taxes, they are simply returning some of the money to THE TAX COFFERS that paid them. Their wages do not represent a net gain in real income.

Government creates NO jobs. Government funds NO jobs. Government creates NO wealth, NO opportunity, NO innovation, NO technology, NO research. NOTHING. It is ALL funded by taxes paid from the private sector. If we gut the private sector because of some misguided economic policy based on class warfare, adolescent envy, and a desire to infantilize the people of this nation, eventually there will be NO MONEY for the government to "redistribute" — and the goods and services needed for basic subsistence will become unaffordable and, eventually, unavailable all together. There is no more bone-headed and ultimately destructive policy in the world than "redistribution" of income from the producers to the non-producers. The arithmetic couldn't be more simple.

As a teacher paid by the government (or at least, while I was still working), I resent your post. I think I contributed a lot more to the economy than a lot of small business owners...my skills as a teacher helped students reach their potential and become productive members of society. As a physics teacher, I was responsible for helping many, many future engineers and scientists reach their goals. Who knows - one of my students may create the next important computer application, the cure for cancer, reach out to new planets, etc. Can the owner of the local pet food store say the same (not that I'm bashing pet food store owners...I think we all have an important role in this world to play!).

Government-funded research is certainly not worthless. You could argue that military research has done more for advancing society than most private companies. Hospitals in Canada have produced lots of innovations - and they are government-funded.

The money I earned as a teacher was invested into the stock market and my local economy. How does your money you earn at your job have more worth in this respect than mine?

I have complete respect for workers in the private sector (after all, I'm married to one, and I used to work in it). However, I think your disdain for people who work in public service is sad and misguided. Although it is reasonable to want to limit government size, to say that government workers add NO VALUE in society is just plain wrong.

Kind of makes you wonder why socialists don't understand this.

Both my grandparents were from europe and they came here to get away from socialism. They realized its short comings.

Can we say Manic Monday?? Will we see a DOW 6000?:scared1: S&P at 600?:scared1: How about the NASDAQ?:scared1: We may not see this Monday, but we're bleeding to death..slowly, but surely. Wall Street doesn't like ANYTHING out of Obama's, Geithner's or Bernanke's mouth. The market's going to drop like a rock.

If you want to rebuild a house, you need to knock it down first.

Whether they move themselves or their money overseas, they'll still be on the hook for US income taxes on their worldwide income ... unless they want to renounce their US citizenship. And then they'll never be able to go to Disneyworld again.

But not the business. If the business is not incorporated in this country, they can not tax it. Plus their are many countries that will gladly let their bank accounts remain hidden. Why do you think Striesand and Moore hame residences in Jamacia and the Caymans? The newest trend is to let "visitors" remain in the country with non expiring visas. Belize is one that comes to mind.

You have misunderstood my post. I do not have "disdain" for (some) government workers. I am a teacher, as well. My family has a long history of military service. That doesn't change the FACT that when I get my paycheck, I am being paid by the grace of OTHERS' labors. If THEY do not work and pay taxes, and their businesses do not PROFIT, there is NO MONEY for my school district or any other government employer. The term "government funded" is erroneous — there are no government "funds" except those contributed by the private sector. My school district does not create income — it takes from those who do, and uses it to fund schools. The private sector isn't "part" of our economy, it is THE ENTIRE ECONOMY. Government jobs like mine and yours exist only as the private sector flourishes; if the private sector is demonized and "rich" people are punished for their success through excessive taxation then everyone will suffer because GOVERNMENT DOES NOT CREATE JOBS OR WEALTH OR OPPORTUNITY.

Again, the arithmetic couldn't be more simple. Facing the reality of how our economy works isn't disdainful, it's rational — and ignoring it is perilous.
