We love to relax and just hang out. REmember that movies are available for
DVC members-in case you need a quiet afternoon or evening in. But who can resist the restaurants? And we also enjoy riding the transportation-the boats from OKW and also the monorail. As long as it's not high traffic time, it's fun to just get on the monorail and see the sights as you head to lunch or an early dinner at one of the resorts.
We'll definitely take advantage of a movie one day! We're trying to do this trip really cheap, so we'll be eating in the villa, but I definitely plan on riding the monorail and showing the kids some of the other resorts!
We just came back from a trip like that at Kidani. It included:
- Spending an evening at the Boardwalk watching the LIVE & FREE entertainers
- Spent 2 days at the pool. There were pool activities 1 day with a DJ. It was fun!
- Visiting and dining at different resorts. Our favorite was the Grand Floridian. When, oh when, will DVC arrive at GF?
- 2 days of shopping and hanging out at DTD
- Relaxing on our balcony, watching the animals
- Playing foosball and Wii in the Community Hall
Have fun!
It sounds like you guys had a blast! We're going to head over to the Boardwalk for our first "Welcome Home" Wednesday....I hope. We say we're going to do it every trip and then we always forget....probably because we are too busy in the parks...
DW and I are DINKs and rarely go to the parks. Rent a boat from POLY, CR or WL. Either a pontoon for the whole family or those mini boats to cruise around in. That area has the most water to cruise on. Rent bikes at WL. I love taking the trail over to FW and ride around the campgrounds. So many places to ride over there and pretty quiet. Mini golf has been said already. How about one of the water parks. Disney Quest. Take them to La Nouba if you have never seen it. They used to let you in to Epcot through the back International Gateway area just as Illuminatios was to begin without tickets. I don't know if they still do that. Boardwalk at night. Play some of the games there. Have a nice dinner you may not have during a normal visit. Go to California Grill to eat during Wishes.
I would love to rent a pontoon boat! We can't do it on this trip, but it's a definite in the future!
OKW also has the outdoor movie. You can take one evening to go and see a free movie and enjoy the resort! Even when we go into the parks we make sure we have enough days to resort hop and hang out at the Boardwalk. Our next trip we are going to take our DD3 and DD1 to the petting zoo at Fort Wilderness and maybe a pony ride. I love the non-park days at the World.
I'm so glad to be taking a trip like this finally! It's about time we checked out some of the other things Disney has to offer!!! I've been dying to get over to Ft Wilderness...I would love to camp there one day. I almost did it this trip, but then quickly came to my senses when I remembered it would be June in Florida

!
It's actually pretty cool. I couldn't coax my wife into trying it, so I went one morning after breakfast last August. It was a perfect time -- around 10 am, I think, and there was no line, no wait, and the weather was delightful.
I was told by the "pilot" that the ride is very popular in the evenings around fireworks time, so you might want to try that, too!
You are very brave!

How do your kids feel about NOT visiting a park?? I know it would be hard for me NOT to go to a park or two during a week's stay. Two summers ago we stayed at OKW for 8 nights and then moved to BCV for 6. We did more relaxing at OKW.....slept in, went to the pool, DTD, TL but we also did some park action but not as much as we did when we got BCV. It was so hard to not go to EC a few times. Just curious. Have fun.
We will be going to the parks....just not every day and not for whole days. IASW is high on our list since it will be closed for our big family trip in Sept. We'll go do a couple of favorites here and there, but not commando like we usually do.
Sounds like you guys had the perfect trip! I'm trying to convince DH to add on so we can do a 2 week'er too!
For us, this is how it turned out (and this may help the OP)--My kids are 7, 8, and 10--prime theme park ages. We have done a one week trip where we only did 2 park days (one day at MK and one Epcot day) and they loved the trip. But as DVCers, they have already been to Disney and done the parks something like 8 or 9 times in their young lives. Maybe more. And they know that we will be back again in the not too distant future. We let them know beforehand...and really kept reminding them regularly so they were well prepared. Like I said, it was GREAT.
We did lots of things we don't usually do. Mini golf, dive-in movies (meaning the big blow up screen at the pool in the evening), really got our use out of the Community Hall--did several activities there. Explored other resorts and pool hopped to our hearts' content. In fact, we didn't have enough time to do everything we wanted to!
Exactly! This will be my 4 year old's 7th trip I think?! They know we're going back in Sept with all of their cousins and that this trip is for swimming and having fun. It's time to start taking advantage of what the resorts have to offer.
I love WDW more than anything in the world! I would go every day if I could! Every single time we've been here...I come home exhausted...and that's because we don't ever want to miss a single second in the parks (except for nap time, of course

)! I've been under a lot of stress and I just want to "make myself" take the time to relax this trip! I'm really hoping the June crowds (which I am SO not used to) will force me to stick with my plan!
My main question was really about what edk35 asked. How do we NOT go to the parks? It's so hard to imagine being in WDW and not being in the parks from morning til night.
I think NOW my biggest problem will be how to fit in all of the cool activities you all have suggested!

Thank you to everyone! I love the D-boards!
