First names you would never call a child of yours?

Michael or John

Nothing wrong with the names, there are just entirely too many of them! LOL
As someone who is married to a Michael and has a brother in law Michael who wanted to name his son Michael.... I have to agree. I obviously love the name though since it belongs to my DH.

No made up names and definitely nothing that begins with or has a Q in it. I do not like Qs.

Gay - Knew a person in high school whose name was gay

Dick- Knew a person whose name was Dick

My sister-in-law his Brenda Gay [HerLastName]. She took a lot of crap for it, but kept a good attitude and laughed about it. "Wear it like armor," as Tyrion Lannister says, "and no one can use it to hurt you."

I'm wondering when the name "Gaylord" is going to make a comeback (see Category #2: Thurston Howell's Frat Brothers at Yale a few posts above).

I read the pp's post this way

Gay Knew- a person in highschool who's name was Gay, and he had a brother Dick.

The cap. K threw me off LOL

When we were looking for names in a name book 30+ years ago when DW was pregnant with DS we immediately looks at Bonaface and agreed we didn't want to use THAT name. We STILL laugh at that. Or as I pronounced it.....BON FACE.

Gertrude .... the only Trudie I've ever known was really mean.

Two of my girls have unusual spellings and my other two kids are named after ancestors. My ds is the sixth. I love all their names.

The only Gertrude I knew was the sweetest, kindest woman I ever met and was adored by everyone who knew her. :)

I suppose there are worse people to be named after than popes.

I'm going to choose my words carefully here, because undoubtedly several DISers have named their kids these names, so please don't take offense. I'll list the names I don't like in categories.

CATEGORY 1: "Trendy" names: Mackenzie, Mickayla, Emily, Colton, Weston, Connor.
CATEGORY 1A: Unusual spellings. Kyleigh, Emmaleigh, Gynnifer.
CATEGORY 2: Thurston Howell's Frat Brothers at Yale: Braxton, Bentley, Dunlap.
CATEGORY 3: Common Biblical Names: Matthew, Luke, Sarah.
CATEGORY 4: Obscure Biblical Names: Hezekiah, Gomer, Josiah.
CATEGORY 5: Your Grandparents' Names: Herkimer, Flossie

If Mrs. Homie and I had had kids, we'd landed on Elias William for a boy (we'd have called him "Will") and Holly Grace for our daughter (we'd have called her "Grace"). And yes, we named our hypothetical children Will & Grace.
Why not name your hypothetical children William Elias and Grace Holly? That seems like a logical, common sense solution to your problem.

Two names used many times in my family that are on my dislike list... Betty and Benson.

I'm married to someone with a old-fashioned, hideous name, both first and middle, and we all laugh about it, but I know he was teased a lot growing up. People still mock him today, because it really IS a funny name combined, but his parents named him after two people that they respected and admired, so nobody is allowed to mock him in front of his parents, so it doesn't hurt their feelings. That said, he has an old family friend that named her twins Sandy and Candy. I would never do that to my kids. Sandy is pretty, but Candy sounds like a stripper name to me. I would just envision a future that would involve 6 inch lucite platform heels and a micro mini skirt.
