First Disney World Memory

Camping at Ft. Wilderness in a tent, and in rained. This was shortly after WDW opened:thumbsup2 Also the Swiss Family Treehouse, in the rain, lol. My very favorite and I still love, Its a small world!

I was six years old and only the Magic Kingdom existed. I remember being in awe the entire day. It was just my mother and my self so my mother made me ride Space Mountain. I was terrified! But when we rode the Haunted Mansion I was hooked. The whole day was magical and exciting. I cried the entire walk to the tram, on the tram and in the car. I never wanted to leave. Thirty one years later I still get tearful and sad on our last day.

6 years old in 1976. There was only a Magic Kingdom. 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, Tom Sawyer's Island and Haunted Mansion are clear in my mind, as well as a Bicentennial parade.

It was 1990, and my family just went down for my 6th birthday. We were on the Backlot Tour and I was so in awe of the Golden Girls house. My nana used to watch that show all the time and I couldn't believe I was actually seeing it in person!

1996. DD was 5. We got to Orlando around noon and went to EPCOT for 1/2 day. First character she ran into was Mickey. She was sooo excited

A big stuffed Mini Mouse I got back in 1976. It was thirty or fourty dollars at the time and my mom kept on going on and on about how she couldn't believe she had spent that much money on a stuffed animal. I loooved it though....creating that disney magic-lol.

1979. Shopping in the Poly gift shop and buying a hula outfit, then wearing it to the luau. Seeing the EP model on MK Main St. (I think it was where the gallery is now) and being completely entranced by the entire concept of EP - still have the book that was for sale which mentions things that never came to fruition. Could not wait for EP to open!

1992. Walking into the Great Ceremonial House at the Polynesian. I think I was stunned that I was actually there, because I don't remember much else about checking in and all that until we were on the monorail to the Magic Kingdom. I was so excited I was bouncing up and down in my seat-and I wasn't a little kid, either. I was in my twenties.

I was about 4. I remember that I was really really flying on Peter Pan's Flight. I also remember Epcot clearly, it was pretty new then (about 1984) and I remember how excited my mom was to go there.

1986 at 5 years old. I remember being so excited to see Cinderella's castle! I vividly remember riding Thunder Mountain, Tomorrowland Speedway, 20,000 Leagues, and seeing the electrical parade.

I was 7 years old in 1976 the first time I went. I remember riding Dumbo with my older sister. We waited in line forever. I remember the hitch hiking ghosts at HM and I remember the old fashioned paper tickets where you had to choose your rides.

Nearly drowning at River Country when I was about 6. I fell through an innertube and couldn't get back to the surface because people in other innertubes were going over me.

Same trip: Being amazed at the Haunted Mansion when I saw the ghost riding in my car. :thumbsup2

1977. I was 21. I had been to Disneyland all my life but this was first WDW visit. Best memory was being chased by Sleepy after he heard me say I didn't want to take my photo with him because I didn't like "that dwarf".

Early '90s. I'd been to Disneyland once a few years before but this was out first real extended vacation. I was 13 and what I remember most of all was not the rides, but sitting with my parents and brother every night after returning to POFQ and sharing a sundae. My family just didn't do things like that. My dad was "older" (40 when I was born) and traveled a lot for work. We didn't do a lot of quality family time togetherness kinds of things. And I just remember sitting and talking about our day and being together and feeling so happy.

I tell people this when they wonder why a "child's amusement park" means so much to me. It's family, it's togetherness, it's memories, and it all came together do beautifully at WDW. And that's what we want to give our son.

This is gonna sound so sad because it is lol

But I have this one memory, and I know I was probably a toddler, of 20,000 leagues being shut down because it was broken and my mom being so upset than by the next time we went down not sure when probably when I was around 9 or 10. It was gone!!!

We never got to ride it :(

You'd think I have a happier memory lol but I do carry some snapshots from that toddler age of splash mountain, the castle, definitely toon town fair. Little memories that seem to keep slipping away with age :(

I was 37 on our first trip back in 2010.

The first thing I remember is pulling into Pop Century and seeing all the oversized bright signs and decorations. Just looked like so much fun (and it was!)

My second memory was walking into the main entrance of Hollywood Studios (our arrival day park choice that year). I remember thinking that the entrance looked nice but nothing WOW. The wow certainly came that year though, in SOOO many ways. As we worked our way deeper into the park, the theming became so awesome. I love the feel of HS. We've come to love HS (right behind MK on our list).

My first trip was in 1976 when I was five years old. I remember POC, Dumbo, and 20,000 leagues, and the Bicenntennial parade.

Unfortunately, the thing I remember the most was sitting on one of the velvety ropes in a queue at the Crystal Palace, falling off, and hitting my head on the floor. My poor son (and husband) have to hear that story every trip when I see a child swinging on a rope or chain in a queue!
