First Disney World Memory

I was five years old and saw Donald immediately. It was the first character I saw so I ran at him at full speed and gave him a giant bear hug (back then there must not have been the giant lines or I just cut in front of a ton of people, it was '85). I now feel very sorry for the Donald that day because I probably gave him a hernia or at least knocked the wind out of him!

Early '90s. I'd been to Disneyland once a few years before but this was out first real extended vacation. I was 13 and what I remember most of all was not the rides, but sitting with my parents and brother every night after returning to POFQ and sharing a sundae. My family just didn't do things like that. My dad was "older" (40 when I was born) and traveled a lot for work. We didn't do a lot of quality family time togetherness kinds of things. And I just remember sitting and talking about our day and being together and feeling so happy.

This is so sweet, and I entirely understand!

From my first trip as a seven-year-old, I remember my dad holding me and letting me "sleep" on his shoulder while we were waiting in line to leave the park. I was awake and just pretending, but I was old enough that he didn't often carry me anymore. It was just nice to be held! Then I shifted about, he realized I was awake, and put me down and made me walk. :rotfl: Poor Dad. He'd had a long day, too!

I went again at age 23 for my honeymoon. I feel all warm and happy when I remember watching Wishes for the first time with my husband standing behind me, his arms wrapped around me, and talking to my mom on the phone when Fantasmic was about to start. I'm not generally that sentimental of a person, but at Disney, these little moments get to me!

That's funny, i remember almost taking Pooh out when I was a kid too. I also have so many pictures with random kids. It was first come, first tackle back then. Poor Pooh and Donald!!!

July 2001 - I was 54 years old - excited about my very first trip to WDW.

We checked into All Star Music - the first resort I ever stayed at. The "music everywhere" at that resort made this music teacher very happy! Everything was perfectly perfect! :thumbsup2

We unpacked & took the bus to MK. We walked onto Main Street & were greeted by the afternoon parade. Of course, that performance was just for me! I still get a bit choked up when the afternoon parade comes down the street. Yes - I get excited - just like a little kid! Yay Disney! :thumbsup2

I'll never forget the big flower Mickey arrangement as we walked up to the entrance. I also remember driving past where Epcot was in the process of being built and seeing Spaceship Earth. i think it was summer 1980. that trip brought so much joy to my life. we spent one day in MK and it was the first time I had seen my dad on 2 years. i didn't go back until my honeymoon in 2006 and i was blown away by how different and how much more there was!! :D

1990. When that train pulled into the station at MK rope drop, I think that hooked me for life.

Some of my earliest memories of Disney World were going to the character breakfasts on the Empress Lilly (now Fulton's in DTD). My grandmother moved down to the Orlando area when I was 2 or 3 so I went to Disney world multiple times a year when I was visiting her. The character breakfasts were always her treat to us and I have such fond memories of meeting Mickey there.

Mine is horrible...

Pulling into the Epcot parking lot at 8am after sitting on a bus from Ohio all night with my a quarter of my HS marching band. Then, half the kids got off and we drove to MGM (this was 1997). So, yeah, a parking lot and MGM. :(

I was a teenage and I had some serious back surgery, 3 operations in 2 years. My dad told us we were going to Disney World and Florida for Christmas Vacation. I remember it took us 2 days to drive there and when we pulled in we pulled into the Contemporary Parking Lot. My sister and I thought we were rich! Never saw something so wonderful before! I didnt even ask to go on this vacation. I remember looking out into the lobby from our room.

I will have to go back and look at some of the pictures. My whole family has passed away but I always have those memories.

My first memory is sitting down in the Main Street Cinema to watch old Silly Symphonies cartoons and my Mum having to drag me out of there. Actually, that's probably not my first memory, but it's one of very few memories I have of Main Street. That, and leaving during the fireworks. I remember wondering if people really lived there and got to watch them every night. I was nine.

I remember going to Disney as a baby (1983 or 1984) with my parents. My dad won a sweepstakes to participate in Goofy games with famous sports stars. Me and my mom watched and cheered my dad and his sports star teammate on.

Another memory that I have is being about 3 or 4 years old and taking a picture with my parents and my grandpa down Main Street. I still have the little viewfinder keychain thing that they put the picture in for you back then. I was in my stroller and had on a red with whitè polka dot Minnie Mouse dress that my mom had sewed for me.

Disney was and still is my happy place! ;)

My mom said we first went the year Magic Kingdom opened. I would have been one and have no recollection of it. I think we also went in '73. My first trip I do remember was when I was 5. We went in 1976 and I remember the Bicentennial Parade. I also remember staying at the Polynesian. I remember riding the Monorail and thinking how neat that went through a building. I also remember flying down there and how we wore our Sunday best to ride in a plane.
I still have a Snow White ornament from that trip. It is the first thing to go on our tree every year.

Weren't there also sky buckets or sky lifts? Not sure if I'm remembering Disney or Six Flags.

Interestingly, my grandmother still has the receipt from our stay at Contemporary. It was $39.95 for one night.

Quite a random memory but my 1st Disney trip was when I was 9 and we were in river country and we had to get out of the water due to an electrical storm........... the reason this sticks in my mind is cause I told my younger sister it was because Jaws was coming to eat her!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I remember most vividly being tired and wanting to go rest and my mom was super ticked "because they spent so much money and so on". Yeah she was one of those people!

But I do also remember 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea and thinking I was really really far underwater lol.

My whole family has passed away but I always have those memories.

Exactly. It's a stretch for us to go often but as long as we have jobs and a roof over our head and making progress on our other financial goals, we will go. Such amazing memories. Such special times with people I love so much.

My sons 1st expression of disbelief when we saw the castle for the 1st time......Priceless.

My first memory is Feb 1972. I was a Senior in High School and in Marching Band. We march down Main Street. Just to let everyone know there is whole other world under the streets in the Magic Kingdom. I was really interesting.

MK used to have a "ski lift" that went from Tomorrow Land over to Fantasy Land just past Its a Small World. I loved the "ride." So sorry to see it go. :sad1:

Wow, $40 a night at CR! :lmao:

I have so many first memories at WDW but when I was going to WDW as a kid it was just MK and eventually River Country. My first trip would have been at Christmas in 1971 or maybe the summer of 1972.

Riding on the monorail through CR was just awesome. I think my mouth was open in amazement the entire time we were in the building. I still LOVE big open spaces in buildings like the CR. When we visit the CR, I can stand there just looking up in awe.

We had moved from Orlando but our family still lived in town. Either at Thanksgiving, Christmas, Spring Break, or over the summer we would go to MK. We would leave which ever relative we were staying at before dawn to get to the parks early. Parking was always interesting to me because it was so well organized. Course, we all would have to remember which character designated our parking spot. Getting on the tram was always memorable for some reason.

We would stay all day until the fireworks but we would leave before the show was finished, at my aunt's insistence, to avoid the crowd leaving the park. As a result, my mother never saw the entire fireworks show. On one of our Spring Break trips, we surprised my mother with an Illumination Cruise so she could FINALLY see an entire fireworks show! :thumbsup2:rotfl2:

Riding across the lake on the ferry is memory as well, though, I always wanted to take the monorail so I could see CR.

I remember paper tickets and especially E Tickets. I think getting in the park was free, you only had to pay if you got on the rides.

At some point, my mom and aunt would let my cousin and I loose on our own in MK. We would go our different ways and meet back at the arcade every few hours so they could check on us and we could get more tickets!

The arcade! I loved the arcade! I miss the arcade!

FINALLY MK had a roller coaster in Space Mountain! My cousin and I were sooooooo excited! We did not like parades and we quickly figured out that people would go see the stupid parade and the line would be short on SM! Woo HOO! :rotfl: I can remember the first time we rode SM three times in a row. Walk on, ride, walk off and repeat because everyone was watching the parade.

Being so hot and wishing we could jump the fence to go swimming in 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea or in the "river" around TSM....

TSM did not have bathrooms nor water fountains back in the day.....

But the tunnels on TSM were COOL and were a wonderful break from the summer heat and humidity. The whole island was a great big playground to me and my cousin.

The Swiss Family Tree House was and is still so cool. I always wanted such a neat tree house but how could you top Disney? :confused3:rotfl:

Buying a musket from Frontier Land and marching out of MK at the end of the day...

My cousin and I hated being dragged into Diamond Horse Shoe though we did like the magician. I wish the Diamond Horse Shoe was still running so I could take my mom back for another show. :lmao:

The first time I ate Sushi was at Japan in EPCOT right after the new park opened. Yummy. I can remember sitting there with my other cousins and thinking how cool the restaurant was and how nice it was looking out the windows.

My dad refused to go to WDW aka MK so it was always just me and mom. I found out that he does not like heights and has never rode a roller coaster. While he still does not like going to WDW because of the crowds he has gone many times now to be with his grand kids...

Before one trip, his youngest grand kid was talking to grandpa on the phone. The youngest was going to be tall enough on the next trip to get on the Yeti Ride as well call EE. Grandpa was telling his youngest grand kid that of course he would go on the Yeti Ride. :scared1::banana: I got on the phone and told him that he had just promised a grand kid that he was going to get on EE, the tallest roller coaster at AK! :scared1: :lmao::lmao::lmao: Grandpa spent a few months trying to wiggle out of his deal, but in the end, he road EE! Once a Marine, always a Marine was his mantra as he got on that little train to visit the Yeti! :lmao::rotfl2: :thumbsup2 This is one of the youngest first memories of WDW.

Dan
