For trip in May of 2005, we are planning to arrive on the 13th or 14th mid afternoon. One of the things I love to do is to have a special dinner that night and then do someting a little fun! Last year it was Chef Mickey's with a monorail ride (in the front!). In 2001, it was Ohanas and a monorail ride. I would like to do something similar but different in 2005. My initial ideas are:
1. 1900 Park Fare with a ride on the monrail. (My kids like the characters - but will my 10 yr old DS like these?)
2. Boma and take a look around Animal Kingdom and look at the animals (is this possible and are the animals around at this time of day?)
3. Cape May Cafe and walk on the Boardwalk.
4. I am open to any other suggestions.
Thanks.

You could eat at the Whispering Canyon Cafe then go to Ft. Wilderness for the marshmellow roast with Chip and Dale.

We like to do something fun on the first night as well rather than waste a ticket for a partial park day.

This year we are doing the Hoop Dee Doo Musical Revue. Before the show we are going to walk around Fort Wilderness. They have small banyard animals for petting, a stable where they keep all the draft horses that pull all the wagons around WDW, pony rides for about $2 and a blacksmith who may be on hand to show you his craft, just to name a few.

So, Hoop Dee Doo would be my suggestion.

We went to Disney for the first time this past May. We arrived mid-morning on a Monday and our package didn't start till the following morning so I made reservations to the Hoop-Dee-Doo review for the early show that night.

It was perfect!! We took the bus over to the Magic Kingdom so the children could get a first look then took the boat over to Fort Wilderness...it was such a beautiful evening and the children were in awe of it all and really loved the boat ride for taking it all in.

We walked around Fort Wilderness a while then enjoyed the show which was the MOST fun and a terrific way to start our vacation!! We were seated up front which meant we were included quite a bit in the show...the children were in stitches throughout the whole show and the food was YUMMY!!

Such wonderful memories!

Hoop Dee Doo or Cirque du Soliel are good for the first night. Or if you don't want to spring for the shows, your AKL & Cape May Cafe ideas are good too!

Thanks for the suggestions - Hoop Dee Doo gets such great reviews - maybe we willtry it!

I also like your idea of Boma. We had such a fun evening at the AKL- looking around the lobby, going outside after dinner and watching the animals with the nightvision equip., sitting by the fire pit. They also had an evening lecture/storytelling in a room off to the side of the lobby- we didn't stay, but it looked interesting and fun.

I am so glad a couple of you recommended the Hoop Dee Doo Musical Revue for the first night's dinner! That is our plan for our first dinner on our trip in February. It sounds like a lot of fun!

We will be going to Boma and 'Ohanas on other nights during our trip. I am excited to try all these places!
