Firebreathing Dragon Flying Over New Fantasyland

I watched the video and thought 'hhhmmm, a clue for avatarland?'

I'll try not to be too "anti-Avatar" in this reply, but I think that a traditional dragon is a more universal (no pun intended) and recognizable creature (albeit a mythical one). Add to that, the fact that Maleficent from Sleeping Beauty is an iconic Disney dragon. It would certainly add to the experience of the proposed Avatarland if one of those alien dragon-like flying creatures was seen overhead. But if WDW is not going to use the dragon they've already got trained to fly over Fantasyland, why employ a similar creature in the other park?

I'd be happy if they had both, but if I had to choose one or the other, I'd pick the traditional dragon flying over MK anyday!

Part of the story I have heard about the dragon is that he (she) is a protector of the "magic" and may show up when there are some new "happenings". Such as openings of large projects.

We will see.

I just wanted to chime in on a couple of things. The first being on topic: I love the idea that the dragon could be Maleficent and make appearances during MNSSHP. :thumbsup2 That way, they wouldn't have to worry about it year round, but just bring it out for the special occassion. Similar to bringing out the Headless Horseman.

The second is in reference to the DDP: Before they implemented the DDP, I feel that the quality and offerings at the CS establishments were really poor. The burgers were like hockey pucks and if you were on a budget, as I have almost always been on my visits, there were few opportunities for desserts. Also being on a budget prevented me from very many chances to dine at TS establishments, but now I am fortunate enough to have gotten to eat at many that I had always wanted to try.

I feel that there are a great many Disney fans who are fortunate and have DVC or can afford to stay at the Poly or GF and the like. Just remember the little people who are grateful to Disney for the DDP and having the chance to get our kids in to Crystal Palace or Garden Grill to meet characters in an intimate setting. And it is even more glorious when the DDP is "free". ;)

On a side note, I would also like to add that when he was 3 years-old, I took my son to breakfast at *gasp* Akershus. Let me tell you...he LOVED it. :love:Those princesses were so attentive to him and he had lipstick marks, from their sweet kisses, all over his face for the entire day. His interaction with Jasmine was enough for him to declare, "I love her!" :lovestruc So, give the princess meals a shot if you have a son, you might be pleasantly surprised.

~News broke about this dragon while it was being tested in California and everyone assumed it was for Avatarland because it resembled that elusive dragon in the Animal Kingdom park logo. I was so disappointed to find out it was a one time thing for Fantasyland. With that said, it's still a neat concept.

~Wow, I thought it was awesome to see a dragon soaring above the castle! But, I also share your disappointment, because it does seem like a waste for just one night. I have to believe that there is something more to this.

Well I can see if you were there, maybe it might be more impressive?? I don't know, I just wasn't impressed watching the video. And then knowing that I'll probably never see it again, much less in person, was disappointing as well. I would love to think there is something more, but I don't know.

~I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt here, lol. :rotfl2: But seriously, I wasn't there but I was blown away.

~Here is a pic the dragon being tested in California. Initially, most of us speculated this was going to be some kind of dragon ride for Avatarland.

~I don't know, I thought it was pretty spectacular. But, I could have just been caught up in the moment. I promise I won't try to convince you anymore! :rotfl:

So wish I could have seen the dragon! Maybe someday. pixiedust:
