If the finger scan measures distance between points on the fingerprint, would it then reject someone whose fingers may have changed shape somewhat, perhaps from swelling? Both myself and DW have trouble with this particularly if we've been walking a lot, swinging our arms as we do so - tends to force fluids into the hands and making fingers swell (often I can't get rings off as a result).

It isn't just distances, but angles, etc. It is more mathematically defining the shape of the fingerprint than size.

That said, there is some percentage of people that just have trouble it seems. On my last trip, my finger failed the first time almost every day, but the second or third scan worked. It was weird.

And when it fails .. can you just show your ID to the turnstile CM and they can let you through or do you have to go to the Guest Services counter and go through that mess?

More often than not they will likely send you over to guest services to get it straightened out I believe (CF can probably confirm) to get it straightened out.

You are supposed to have the option of presenting an ID in place of the finger scan anyways (if your pass is signed at least), although I've heard a number of times of CMs not being aware that it can be done...
