Finding a charity to donate stuffed animals to

I have 200+ beanie babies that I'm looking to get rid of. I'd be afraid to give them to animal shelters for fear of them ripping them open and getting the pellets. I have another 50 or so beanie buddies on top of that. It seems like a waste to just throw them out because they are pristine.

What a great idea!! :goodvibes

I know my kids will love this idea much better than trying to sell them or giving them to a thrift store!! :worship:

I can't wait to tell them about these ideas!!
Thanks!! :hippie:

You can also look up any domestic violence shelters, they may take them to give to the children currently with their mothers.

I give a big thumbs up:thumbsup2 to contacting your local fire and police departments, but would also suggest contacting local churches. A lot of churches have programs in place for Christymas gifts, disaster gifts, abused women programs, or even a sister church in another area that receives donations. Larger churches tend to have more programs that may take your items.

Good on YOU for donating them!

At my house during the spring and summer we receive postcards from charities at least once a week stating they will be coming through our neighborhood on such and such a date and asking for donations.

A couple years ago I finally got around to going through my childhood stuffed animals and found 30 to 40 in excellent shape. I put them in a box for the next scheduled charity pick-up. I was extremely happy to see that the charity coming that week was the Association for Retarded Children and one of the items they asked for was stuffed animals. Just serendipitous timing, and it made me feel so good!

Thank you for donating your toys!! :thumbsup2

My DD had her yearly appointment with the her neurologist at Shriners (Chicago) this morning. The nurse gave her an Eeyore Beanie Baby while we were waiting for the doctor to come in. I asked her about donations and she said that they do still take them.

They will give you a receipt for taxes as well. I just donated DD's old wheelchair to them today. It's the least that we can do since they've done so much for DD.

I am also surprised to hear that humane societies take stuffies. The small parts (eyes, noses) on them can get chewed off and pose a choking hazard for the animals as well as dangers if they i ngest the beads or small parts.

I know some children's hospitals will take donations like you have. I would try calling some!

I work at a children's hospital, and I can guarantee that we would not take used stuff animals, under no condition. You just never know what germs/viruses, etc., could be on those toys. Not saying you have any, but how would any children's hospital know that?
