Finally getting to see the lights! Nov '11 Anniversary/Holiday/F&W PTR-New 11/4 p50

We had the NH Special Olympics state games last weekend:

Alex came in 3rd in the 25 freestyle & 25 backstroke on Friday. He was thinking he might want to retire after the meet. On Saturday he came in 1st in the 50 freestyle & 2nd in the "unified" 4X25 freestyle relay.

Awesome!! :cheer2: Good for him!

Good luck to your mom with the natural remedies... we've tried everything & Alex now takes an actual "drug" for ADHD symptoms.

I'm leaning towards trying Straterra out. I talked to his pediatrician about it in March when I was home and it seems like the best place to start. My brother has adult ADD and does really well on Adderall but with Aidan's anxiety I worry about trying an amphetamine. At this point I think medication is going to be the only thing that works.

Boston is so much fun, haven't been since pre-kid days, it's about 3 hours from us. We've driven by heading to Cape Cod twice, but never did make a day trip. I want to take the boys to the Aquarium. We'll have to plan a weekend there on a non-Disney summer, maybe next year.

There is so much to do in Boston!! We've done the Museum of Science, Aquarium & Children's Museum but think it's time to branch out and explore the city some more. If the weather cooperates, it's a great place to spend a day!

I hope you get to see Lilly. She's getting so big and is so mobile now. Don't you know she has as much care and attention as any little gorilla in this world has ever gotten? She could not have been born in a better place, in my opinion. I would love the job of working with her.

I am glad you do go to Animal Kingdom, even though you are not huge fans, like we are. It's still good to give the kids the experiences of seeing these animals up close, and it is a unique park. A lot of people who don't care for it just never go there at all, and I think it's such a good hands on/close-up experience for kids in their whole learning experience. I can tell my school kids about these animals, but unless they see them, hear them, smell them  and sometimes even touch them, they are still not getting the full appreciation of the animal. The teacher in me could go on and on about this, but I am officially on summer break, so I'll stop. :upsidedow

I totally agree with you Memom! Alex really needs to see things in person (often more than once) to get a good understanding of what something is all about. We went on the farm field trip with his class this week & even though he's seen cows & horses before, he asked "are these cows or horses" when we walked into the cow barn. And when we saw some calves, he was surprised how big they were. He held up his thumb & index finger about two inches apart and told me he thought they were only that big! There's a lot he can learn at Animal Kingdom!!

sounds like a good AK day....:thumbsup2

:thumbsup2

Aww...I missed the fact that AK had a baby gorilla! How sweet! I hope you get to see her!

She was a year old in February! I hope we get to see her too!

Awesome!! :cheer2: Good for him!

Thanks Kathy!!

It's a hard decision to make, but if you weigh the pros & cons and you feel medication is the way to go, it can help a lot. Good Luck!! We had to try several different drugs before we found the right one.

It feels good to know that there are others out there who understand. I have had so many people tell me that ADD is an excuse for bad behavior and medicating your kids is wrong but of course these are people with no children or whose children excel in school with not much assistance. It kills me that people try to make you feel guilty for it! And Aidan is well behaved he just struggles.

Aw, Lilly is precious! How neat to hear she is receiving early intervention. Two of my kiddos have as well.

Hi Amy! I've been following along but didn't realize how long it had been since I actually posted... yikes! Caught up - great pics from your Boston trip! How sweet to hear Lilly is getting early intervention. :goodvibes

And in books and pictures, they are. Exactly what I was talking about! You need to see them to really get the full experience.

Yay for Osborne Lights! :dance3:
We will be seeing those before you know it! :santa:

There are definitely people out there who will judge, but I'm sure most of them have no real experience with the situation. If it's going to help your child, go for it!

Most parents I know who have used medication to help their children didn't come to the decision lightly!

I think she is adorable & hope we get to see her. :goodvibes

Thanks for checking in Tracy!! Boston was a lot of fun & I hope to get back there soon. I think Lilly is in good Disney hands!

I’ve dragged my feet a bit on this update not knowing the schedule for the Osborne Lights. The possibility of being there in November & not seeing the lights had me a bit disappointed… but I’m so happy to say that I finally know the dates and WE WILL get to see them!!! (I was worried I’d have to change my ticker & the title of this PTR! Notice I turned the queston mark in my title back to an exclamation point!) I’d really gotten used to the idea of not seeing them so when the news broke yesterday I was extremely excited!! I was totally expecting for WDW to announce that they would start after Thanksgiving.

Moving on to our goals for DHS!

We’ll be visiting DHS three times – DHS will be our first park & last park of the trip with a visit thrown in mid-week to see the Osborne Lights. We'll also see the Osborne Lights again on our last night. What a way to end the trip! :thumbsup2

Our family favorites are:

• Rock ‘n’ Rollercoaster

• Star Tours! We can't wait to check out the new version!

Maybe/if there’s time:

• Fantasmic! (maybe they’ll extend the every night of the week summer schedule?)

• Muppets 3-D

Where we’ll eat:
• ADR at 50’s Prime Time on Thursday 11/10
primetime1.jpg

• Counter Service lunch on 11/8
• Counter Service dinner on 11/12

I have the hardest time with the counter service options at DHS. Depending when we arrive on Tuesday (& whether our villa is ready or not) we may eat somewhere in the Boardwalk or Beach Club areas before heading to DHS. And I’m not sure I want to have our last Disney dinner as a counter service meal at DHS but I also don’t want to waste time with TS on our last night. (Plus we’ll be eating a good TS meal at Epcot for lunch.) So we'll see what happens with the dining options. :confused3

Up next: I bought a new dress for the photo session!! :rolleyes1

hear hear! or is it here here! ;)

AND Booyah! for the OL...I knew they'd be up before T-giving :cool1:  :woohoo:

looks like a great list for DHS too....I'd be hesistant on the every night F!...but you never know, wasn't that way T-giving week last yr, but I don't remember earlier in the month hearing of extensions... only changes our week was extended MK hours from the original hours [posting]

but either way...you can see F! on any trip, how often do you get to see the OL :goodvibes
