I cannot put enough     in this post to say how happy I am right now!

I have been pestering this board since July about how to convince DH to buy DVC. I guess I just plain wore him out, since he agreed this weekend to buy!

Now I need to get all my mickey mice in a row.

I want 160 at BLT and 150 resale at one of the Epcot DVCs. DH says we can only buy one so I am going for BLT because of the developer points and the upcoming price increase.

We want to finance for the time being since we don't want to pull any money (what's left) out of our retirement funds. We have excellent credit and our mortgage on our home is over 75% paid off so I hope we can get a good rate.

I am going down to WDW in December by myself and DH says he doesn't need to see the models so I can go ahead and sign right then and there, but what do I need to do beforehand to make sure things go smoothly?

One thing that comes quickly to mind with me is your husband assuming you are going to put things in both names. Yu can get most everything done while you're there but you will have to take all the paperwork home for him to sign too and then return it FedEx. It's all pretty straight-forward. There's just a lot of it like any real estate purchase.

You cold always call now and get the proverbial ball rolling since you basically are implying that you don't have to see the rooms first (we bought sight-unseen at BLT too on day one).

Good luck and most of all... Welcome home neighbor!

Sent you a pm. :)

My DH took SEVEN YEARS to give in! But, finally, we are members:yay: ...I use the term "we" loosely:laughing: . He has a membership card (somewhere) but I am pretty sure he has no idea how to use it.:lmao:

Welcome home!

Congratulations!!! We just bought last week at AKV and we are thrilled--we are also buying sight unseen, but we just love Disney so much that we don't care lol...

Just a FYI, if you're going to finance through Disney, their financing rates are pretty standard right now. Credit score over 720 gets you a 10.75% rate for a 5 or 10 yr loan, and it's like 4.75% for a 1 yr. loan. Scores under that get a 14.75% rate or something like that. No prepayment penalties.

Congrats and enjoy your new purchase!!!

I am not buying BLT until I see the rooms in three weeks time, but those developer points are very attractive so I probably will buy there in the end unless I really hate the rooms!

Congrats! As everyone says, be sure to buy where you want to stay!! DVC is not a cheap 'adventure' with the yearly maintence fees, the cost of the tickets and getting there. I live way out in Seattle and wouldn't give up my DVC for anything (well, watching my money dwindle to nothing recently, the thought has crossed my mind)!

Congrats.

One thing to consider with respect to order of purchases. If you buy resale first you DVC can match Use Year much easier than to find the resale with the same Use Year. Different Use Years means different accounts.

Congratulations!!

Since you have some time and have already decided that you will be financing, make sure you check out other sources of financing besides Disney. If your house is 75% paid off, it may make more sense to use a home equity line of credit and deduct the interest on your taxes.

Yes, I already know better than to pay 10.75% when we can get 6%-7% home equity loan.

I was planning on buying resale first but DH says we can only afford one contract right now and the extra developer points are swaying me to buying BLT first (plus I can book my Dec 2009 trip earlier). Resale will always be there, Dev points maybe not. Plus, isn't the price per point going up in mid january?
